Description

A puffy for the cold and the wet.

Patagonia's warmest freeride Jacket, the The Women’s Primo Down, is serious about every aspect of winter riding—weather protection, warmth, and breathability. Welded seams and waterproof nylon fabric block moisture so you don’t have to limit your puffy to clear-sky days, and ventilating mesh panels suspend the 700-fill down liner so you won’t overheat on tough mogul runs (air circulates between liner and shell). Snap the powder skirt, stash your MP3 player in the insulated left chest pocket, and pull up the lightly insulated hood.

This is the warmest ski coat I have ever owned! Even in sub zero temps, my core stays toasty warm! Lots of great interior and exterior pockets. I highly recommend this jacket! I even wear it running in the winter!

Unzip the vents on a warm day and it's the down sweater. Driving freezing rain, pull up the hood and this is the jacket Patagonia is famous for. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

I have owned one, then two, of these jackets ever since Patagonia came out with them. It is not puffy, yet it is incredibly warm and I am easily cold! It layers nicely (I go up a size) , and it has pit zips for when you get a little too hot for exertion. Both of mine were stolen this year and I am here buying a new one. It is very expensive, even on sale, but it keeps me warm, and that makes the difference between loving the mountain or wanting to go home! I have used it for skiing, snowboarding and other cold winter outdoor activities. The zipper did seem a little small and light for such a jacket, but I have never had a problem with it. I skied in temps of - 10 F and lower and , with layers, it kept me warm and happy. Even my big puffy down jacket does not do as well, and it is too bulky to move around in.

Down Sweater meets Waterproof! Super warm ski jacket with all the ski features, powder skirt, pit zips, drop in and security pocket, electronic/media pocket, and removable hood. Also, the Primo series from Patagonia was the first company to ever use a recycled polyester face fabric with Gore-tex!

I have long arms, broad shoulders but am thin (5'5", 115-120 lbs) and normally wear Medium in other outdoor brands. I've never owned a Patagonia jacket, but want to buy this one. Small or medium?

I would go Small Megan... but if you need measurements to verify, just call Patagonia mail order customer service and they can look up the across the back length and length of arms.

I really love this jacket. I ended up getting it to cope with the Nebraska winters and I'm glad I did. Look around and wait until it goes on sale.

Jacket has great construction, and although it's a down jacket, it isn't as "poofy" as some can be. Personally, I think the zippers are great, as is the weatherproofing take around them. I'm certainly a fan. Patagonia makes great products and backcountry.com couldn't be a better company to purchase this jacket from.

The style is nice, but the zippers aren't worth the price. They gave out and split after one season.

The fabric also turns stiff and cold below minus 20 celcius.

is the hood detachable?

The hood IS removable - perhaps it was not in the past, but currently you may remove it.

My guy just got his, and no, the hood is NOT detachable. Because I too am interested in this awsome jacket, and whether or not the hood comes off, I inquired at the "Patagonia" site: They said NO, the hoods does not come off; this was 1/17/13. Maybe some of their other jackets have the detachable hoods, but not in this style (according to Patagonia, and the jacket my guy just got from Backcountry. N.B.D., anyway (less areas for drafts/heat loss, etc.). These newer modles do run a tad large; while he got a L, I think maybe a M would have fit better (he's only 5'9", not a athlectic build, seems too big, but...can't wait to get one of these, too!
