Dominate the mountain, cold weather be damned.

The Patagonia Men's Primo Down Jacket has been revamped and is lighter and warmer so you can stay outside longer without tiring from the fatigue of wearing a heavy-as-lead blizzard-busting jacket. The Gore-Tex shell guarantees waterproof and breathable protection, while 800-fill European goose down provides a high warmth-to-weight ratio, giving you a lightweight, ultra-warm, jacket for even your stupidest winter excursions (yes, your mom told us everything).

Down remains one of the best insulators when you're faced with extreme cold. Made of feathers and clusters, down creates an intricate lattice in which lots of little air pockets get trapped. The trapped air then acts as a sentry, preventing cold air from penetrating and warm air from escaping. Consequently, thermal regulation is a non-issue. If you're anticipating arctic storms, the relaxed fit of the Primo lets you layer as much as needed. With the Primo Down jacket, it's possible you'll feel the heat when you're working hard building a snow-cave or skinning up a 10% grade on a frigid dawn patrol—unzip the underarm vents for quick cooling.

The helmet-compatible hood sports a laminated visor, and Touch Point System cord locks make quick adjustments easy. Goose down fills the draft collar at the back of your neck for extra warmth in extra windy conditions. The powder skirt comes off when you're not slaying snow dragons, and a webbing loop connects the Primo Down jacket to any Patagonia snow pant. An internal drop-in pocket holds your goggles and gloves when you're reliving the last run of the day over a steaming mug of hot buttered rum.

Great Jacket but not without flaws

  • Gender:Male
  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:Runs large
  • Height: 6'4"
    Weight: 185 lbs
    Size Purchased: Medium

Great jacket for the cold blooded skier. This jacket has no business being as warm as it is for how light it It can be comfortably worn for extended periods of time between -10F to 40F with just a t-shirt on..

I am 6'4 185lbs and this is the first medium jacket I have ever owned....and it fits so perfect. My tall and slender figure is hard to fit because sleeves are usually to short for a medium but the chest (I have a 40.5" chest) on large jackets are usually to bulky.

As for the flaws. The hood cords are finicky but excellent hood if adjusted properly. The main zipper takes some serious breaking in. The zipper garage at the top of the main zipper has to be physically held out to zip up in order to not catch.

Why does the jacket on this site state the coat is filled with 600 fill power down however on Patagonias direct site the jacket states 800 fill power down?

That's a good catch, this is in fact 800 fill down. We'll get the tech info here updated asap.
