Comfort is the Key

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Height: 6' 1"
    Weight: 185 lbs
    Size Purchased: Large

I tend to waver between Medium and Large in Patagonia shirts and it depends on the described fit. This Pima Cotton Shirt is a relaxed fit and worked best for me best in Large. The Large is a bit roomy on me but the organic Pima cotton is super comfy and has retained its softness even after a few washes. My favorite time to wear this shirt is while traveling, for an evening out on the town, or even as an underlayer while spring skiing.

I agree with mic105235818 (see below) that this shirt can be tough to size depending on your body type. If you are tall and skinny you should go for a shirt like the Fezzman, El Ray (both regular fit) or the Birdshot (slim fit).

Nice shirt, but strange fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I bought this and returned it because of the fit. I'm 6'4'', 175lb

The medium is too short in the arms and waste, and the large is really really baggy (even if you were a pretty broad shouldered dude)

Great shirt!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I love this shirt. I live in Southern California where it is basically spring and summer all year long. This shirts handles the heat really well and even when it isn't hot the sun can just beat down on you and this shirt is light enough to provide a little comfort from the sun while never overheating.

I don't do anything special in this shirt so I cannot speak to how well it will hold up on a backpacking trip across SE Asia or anything like that. I took mine to the Big Island of Hawaii and used it as a layer for hiking the national parks and touring coffee farms. It held up wonderfully. Did it wrinkle? You bet, but it's an organic cotton shirt so wrinkles are to be expected.

Many reviews mention sizing. I am 5'5" and 155 lbs. I was about 20 lbs. heavier when I purchased this shirt in a medium but even now I like the fit of the medium. Sure it has some room as this is a "relaxed fit" shirt, but for me that little bit of room is appreciated. A shirt that is too fitted feels like I might split the shoulder seam if I reach for something.

For what it's worth, I wear this shirt to church every Sunday and I receive a lot of compliments for it. I machine wash my shirt and then I hang it to dry and as a result it still looks like I just took it out of the package last week even though I have owned it for over a year.

From the reviews Ive ready I should go...

From the reviews Ive ready I should go with a medium. Im 5'11, 170lbs. What is Back Country's opinion?

I have tried this shirt on in a medium at our local Patagonia store. I am 6'0" and about the same weight as you. It was an ideal fit. Trim fitting but with plenty of length in sleeves and body. You should be in good shape.

Comfy, casual shirt

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large

I wear this shirt often around the home, office, on the town.

Material feels great. Pretty big compared to the larges I'm used to.

Sizing didn't work for me

  • Fit: Runs large

Large was too baggy in the waist and medium was too tight in the chest and arms. Returned for a different style shirt...still give it 4 stars as it is a very nice shirt just not the right cut for tall skinny guys.

Good Shirt, Baggy Cut

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

This shirt is super comfortable, soft and seemingly beat-proof so it's your typical Patagonia quality, however, the fit is a bit loose. I'm a skinny guy at 6' 155 lbs and I bought a M. The shoulders fit well but the mid-section is so baggy that I haven't really felt comfortable enough to wear it out as a more formal shirt. Great shirt for fishing, beating around but wish the mid-section were more trim

Well made, comfortable, good fit

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Organic cotton - this Patagonia button down shirt is really soft and comfortable. It fits well - not too tight in the shoulders as contemporary cut button downs often are. I like the extra button on the sleeve (so you can go looser or tighter on your wrist). Nice small, discrete collar (lots of shirts nowadays seem to come with Dracula collars which I'm not especially into).

Super comfortable

The look is great and the material is comfortable from day 1. It fit me perfectly - Med, 6'0 175lbs. This one is going to get a lot of use. I went w/ the dark blue which I really like.

great shirt

These are great winter shirts, they fit great and the colors are great. I hope they don't have size issues like some other products from this company.

Nice digs

Bought the forge grey in an XL. The color looks great and these shirts are super soft and comfortable. Im 6'4 ~215lb and went with the XL. The fit is pretty good but maybe a bit too roomy. The chest fits pretty well but the trunk area and arms are kind of wide. If I go with another collor I might consider a size down. Not much else to say, great for a date or casual work shirt.
