One more for the quiver

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Most people have quivers of skis or bikes....and while I do have both of the latter, my jacket quiver is the largest and my favorite. The Patagonia Nano Puff is the mainstay. Not only is it a light enough layer for cool fall days, it's the perfect back country accessory. I can pull it on over my base layers for long runs, and pack it up for the skin back to the top. The color: maraschino, was a bit brighter in person, but it's fun.

Very good purchase

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Jacket is extremely lightweight, squishes down to nothing in luggage, and is warm. It's not a "winter coat" but it's perfect for spring and fall.

it's just what it says- versatile, packs down to nothing, weighs nothing. Would be 5 stars if the stitching didn't pull in the first 24 hours I wore it. I had read about this issue in other reviews- so not surprised, but disappointed that I have to consider using Patagonia's bomb-proof guarantee and might not get the same color (platinum) which I really like.

Great Jacket

I bought this jacket last winter as a layering piece for my winter ensamble (winters in the midwest can be pretty unforgiving). It's done a great job at keeping me warm and I love how bright the color is (mine is a bright turquoise). It also has doubled many times as a car pillow because of how nice and squishy it is. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because it does catch and pill on certain things and compacts a lot if it gets damp. But other than that it has done exactly what I expected it to do.

I plan on wearing this jacket with expedition weight thermals, a fleece, and a wind-proof shell over it for summiting (hopefully) Kilimanjaro in January. Will I be warm enough, or am I better off with Patagonia's down sweater jacket?

Best Answer Responded on

I would recommend the Nano Puff over the Down Sweater for your summit, due to a few factors. The Nano Puff utilizes synthetic down insulation, which will not be compromised by moisture. In addition to this the Nano Puff is fully windproof, and highly water resistant. For this reason you may not need to wear your hard shell as frequently with the Nano Puff, helping to increase the over all comfort. In regards to warmth, the two are comparable, however warmth is difficult to gauge as sensitivity to cold varies from person to person. I would encourage you to wear this jacket before using it on the summit, to best gauge if it will meet your needs.

If you debate with yourself if to take an extra jacket or "travel light" - this is your answer - take this jacket. It is so light and compact, that you still travel light. It's a shame, on Backcountry site they do not have a picture of this jacket as it folds into its own pocket. It becomes as small as 2 cans of cola. Nevertheless it is pretty warm. Comes very handy when it gets chilli...
I also found it very useful as an insulation layer for skiing. In combination (or alternation) with a thin shell it gives a lot of flexibility.

I'm a big fan of this jacket's function, feel and color (the green is exactly like a crayola marker green color). I wore it for three weeks straight on a NOLS course. The only thing is, you have to have some heat in you in order for the jacket to work (kind of like a sleeping bag). So, don't expect warmth from it unless you're warm to begin with (if that makes sense). It's so lightweight and comfortable. I chose it over the REI brand of a similar jacket mostly because of the sleeve length (I'm 6'0 w/long arms). Overall, I would def. recommend this jacket!

Sweet jacket

I must say, this jacket is super light and easily fits under my hardshell. I am 6' tall and usually wear a L in Patagonia clothes. All other jackets are spot on in the sleeves, but this one is a tad bit short. Also, it's roomier than the down sweater in the same size. I am keeping it since I layer it and feel that the XL would be too roomy. However, the performance is great!

Ok Jacket!

I got this jacket and returned it because it snags alot and also, my packpack would slip from my shoulder because of the surface material of this jacket. Even for a casual wear my purse strap wouldn't stay on my shoulder. The colors are very visible and bright if that is what you prefer.

Lisa, Primaloft is a synthetic microfiber insulation used in cold weather gear. Many feel it is a great alternative to down. It doesn't pack down as far but if it gets wet it does not lose the insulating properties like down does.

This jacket is great! Very warm and light. Wonderful color choices as well. The only complain I have is that is snags alot, so be careful!!
