Go to battle in the big mountains.

Designed for the athlete who goes big, whether it's climbing remote peaks, traversing across desolate landscapes, or shredding on huge mountains, the Patagonia Super Alpine Bib can go to battle. The 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric is guaranteed waterproof and breathable. The face fabric is 40D nylon with 150D nylon placed in high-abrasion areas. This means it's durable to withstand light contact with a crampon or ski edge and features an additional DWR treatment so moisture beads up and rolls off.

Form meets function with the Super Alpine Bib. Full-coverage bibs with hook-and-loop adjustable suspenders and drop-seat configuration provide full coverage, and the articulated seat and knees move easily with you through mountainous terrain. Slim Zips, so it won't rub you the wrong way or slow you down when you need to grab gear quickly. The chest pockets are bellowed so that they fold flat against your chest. Patagonia has thought about the hassle of boots with this bib, too. The lower leg is ski-boot compatible and has external scuff guards and adjustable internal gaiters, and the watertight full size zips keep weather out when you need it and can offer ventilation and ease with taking boots on and off. Now, you just have to get to the mountain.

A beautiful product that I wanted...

    • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
    • Fit:Runs small

Beautiful craftsmanship, color, details and overall design. The patterning on this pant however is absolutely terrible, just terrible. It constricts in the absolute worst places. I have a 32" inseam and 37" waist and the crotch, with the suspenders elongated to their max, hoisted my family jewels in a way that was inducing nightmares.

I'm in the market for a full length side zip pro shell bib that is at home both touring and alpine climbing (I know their will be sacrifices on either end) and I wanted these to be the winner but the crotch and thigh patterning was downright disappointing.

Patagonia still makes excellent gear but they really need to step their game up on the patterning. I also tried on the Primo pants and Primo bibs and although they were roomy I felt the exact same way about the patterning. Too loose where you don't need them to be loose and way to constricting exactly where you need movement for skinning and climbing a steep booth ladder.

Try again next year patagonia although by that time I'll have hoped to have found a bib or pant that will last me five seasons at least.

    doesn't work with snowboard boots

    • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit:True to size

I love pantagonia gear but I literally can't fit the gaiter or leg around my snowboard boot. So the powder went right up my leg and into the top of the boots. I double checked and can't see any possible way to lengthen the elastic or fit. The rest of the bibs seem fine but this makes them useless to me and no choice but to return. :(

Will these fit around standard resort ski boots or only mountaineering boots? Thanks

I am 6'3 / 198 lbs / shorter legs and I need for Backcountry skiing. What size do I need. XL or L. I am often in between. Cheers, CJ

This pant or Arc'teryx Theta SV Bib? I have heard a lot about the top quality of Arc'teryx, but never owned an item from them. I am looking for a durable Gore-Tex full zip hardshell for ski touring, mountaineering, and cold rainy day hikes.

I'm partial, but I think it would be worth giving the Super Alpine a shot. Fully redesigned this year, and a killer set of hard shell bibs. Patagonia worked closely with it's climbing and skiing ambassadors to update the old model and make the best Gore bib yet from Patagonia.
