Because you're no fair-weather skier.

A shell pant is fine, but when the temperatures really plunge and the wind is whipping around the mid-mountain-to-peak double chair, you're glad you're wearing the Patagonia Men's Insulated Powder Bowl Pants. In addition to delivering waterproof breathable protection with the Gore-Tex Performance shell and Deluge DWR treatment, the Powder Bowl is reinforced with 60g Thermogreen insulation for reliable, effective warmth.
  • Soft brushed tricot lining on the waistband wicks moisture and adds comfort
  • Adjustable waist tabs dial in the fit
  • Loops on rear yoke secure to the powder skirt on any Patagonia ski or snowboard jacket to keep loose snow out
  • Gusseted crotch and articulated knees enhance your mobility
  • Internal leg gaiters keep the snow out of your boots
  • Scuff guards protect the pant from boot buckles, ski edges, and parking lot abuse

Functional and stylish

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Only wish it was half an inch shorter or had draw cords at the bottom so I could walk in my athletic shoes without having the bottom rub the ground. Otherwise, great: back pocket, vents in the right place. I can't say it is warm, but neither was I cold. Just right relaxed fit to allow for full range of motion.

Pretty nice pants

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Comfortable, seem relatively durable so far about about 10 days of use. Only complaints are the small pocket size, and the fact that there are no built in clips to attach season passes too. And "insulated" is a joke. I can't believe how much extra these pants are for the pititful amount of insulation in them. Also, the BC.coms photo of the heritage blue is awful. They are a nice blue color, not the almost jet black they have pictured. Who's doing your photos, anyways...? All things aside though, very happy with the pants.

bullet proof but a little goofy

I bought these and compared them to my norrona roldal insulated pants. The fabric on these seems like you could go slide down asphalt and be fine, but that of course means that they are a less comfortable fit. Speaking of the fit, they are a bit more baggy than the norrona pants and have much less loft. The side vents lack mesh, but overall, the pants seem like they would last and keep you somewhat warm for about 86 years. I prefer the fit of the norronas, but they come with a much higher price tag too.

Wanted to say thank you to backcountry.com this site is awesome! Oh...the pants. These are a great fitting pant for skiing. I'm 5'9" around 200 and the medium fit me well. Kept warm and dry all day in temps 10-20 degrees.

Patagonia / Insulated Powder Bowl Pants

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

According to Patagonia,my size was an xxl. Ordered them only to find out that I'm not an XXL..They were very, very , very large.. I'm 6' 1" and 220. Returned them and went with the XL which I'm keeping. The fit is really nice in the inseam and waist. The cuff also fits over my downhill ski boots without a problem. Come on winter !!!

does it have the same fit as the non insulated version? I can try the powder regular pants on a local shop, but I want the insulated, are both gonna fit the same? I don't like base layers on my legs since I can't get them good enough with my boots, so looking for the insulated

Responded on

Yes, the fit between the two versions should be the same.

Another size question - I'm 6'3", 225 lbs with fairly big thighs, and a 36" waist pant size. I'm a boarder looking for a somewhat relaxed fit, and I'd like to get these to go with my large Patagonia Primo Jacket. Would XL or L be more suitable? I'd be leaning towards XL, but I'd want to make sure the waist can be made tight enough, and that I wouldn't be swimming in them. Thanks!

Responded on

There's an internal velcro belt, and belt loops to run an actual belt, so I think you'd be ok going XL, especially if you're looking for a somewhat relaxed fit. I'm 6'1" 170 and a large fits me well, with a little extra room.

Well worth the money

If you are in the market for insulated ski pants that are of extremely good quality then I would definitely recommend these... In fact, if you are in the market for any kind of ski pants, I would recommend these.

Very comfortable... they give you space to move around inside the pant without being too baggy, very warm... even in extremely cold conditions, these pants and a base layer was plenty.

Very happy

These are working well for me, here in the extreme cold of Hokkaido. The medium (with waist tabs adjusted to the tightest) is a comfortable fit for my 30" waist. The only thing missing is mesh lining of the vents. I can see these lasting for years.

Do these pants have additional "insulation"...

Do these pants have additional "insulation" in the seat of the pants? How about back of the legs? Thanks.

Best Answer Responded on

No, they have 60 grams of Thermogreen insulation throughout the pant.

Perfect no-fuss pants

I wear 33" jeans, 5'10", 175, and the Medium fits just right. The insulation on these is for real. I wear these + Class-2 Patagonia Capilene long underwear and I'm pretty much ready for anything. Cold legs are not an issue. And they have some nice cargo pockets for the various doo-dads you might want to bring along (energy gels, etc.) Perfect match with the Patagonia Powder Bowl Jacket. Great choice.

Do the vents have mesh lining on them?
