Synthetic insulation and 2-layer Gore-Tex protection make this your go-to cold, deep day jacket.

The lightest, driest, deepest snow often shows up when the temperatures dip. For days when the snow is just too good to stay home there's the Patagonia Insulated Powder Bowl Jacket. Made from tough, lightweight polyester and built around a 2-layer Gore-Tex membrane, the Powder Bowl's combines weatherproof protection with modern styling. The insulated Powder Bowl comes complete with Patagonia's Thermogreen synthetic insulation (100g in the body, 60g in the hood and sleeves) provides a layer of warmth for single-digit days without weighing you down or making it impossible to move.

Patagonia designed the Powder Bowl jacket with 2-Layer Gore-Tex. While slightly less resistant to abrasion than 3-Layer Gore-Tex, 2-Layer is more supple, more flexible, and the fabric tends to be quieter. And, as always, Gore-Tex means guaranteed waterproof and guaranteed breathable, so you can handle anything that nature throws your way without feeling moist and clammy. The main body fabric is 150D polyester, which is both durable and soft to the touch.  The removable, helmet-compatible, two-way-adjustable hood has a laminated visor for optimal visibility in bad conditions. Patagonia's patented Touch Point System embeds the cord locks in the hood and hem for quick adjustment. Patagonia also equipped the Powder Bowl with a sleek, low-profile powder skirt that stays in place whether secured or not. The powder skirt also features a loop of nylon webbing that connects to any Patagonia Snow pants to form a single powder barrier.

The Powder Bowl jacket's fit is relaxed for easy layering on extra-cold days. A slew of pockets keep your stuff (everything from climbing skins to your MP3 player) safe and secure while you lap the chair or a favorite backcountry shot, and zippered underarm vents make it easy to dump heat when you need to.

  • Tough polyester face fabric with Gore-Tex 2-Layer membrane and DWR
  • Thermogreen synthetic insulation (100g body, 60g hood and sleeves)
  • Relaxed fit
  • Mesh-lined underarm vents
  • Coated, watertight Slim Zips
  • Loop on powder skirt to attach any Patagonia Snow pant
  • 2 hand pockets, 1 chest pocket, 1 media pocket, 1 forearm pocket, 2 internal pockets

Here's what others have to say...

Very warm jacket for the cold days

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:Runs large

I wear this one all the time riding the lifts of CO ski areas. Very warm & protective. Does fit big, but I like the look. Kind of heavy too. Glad I got it. FYI, I do test some products for Gore, but only the ones I choose.

just a small correction, the powder skirt...

just a small correction, the powder skirt is not removable on this coat

Great Jacket but Fits Big

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:Runs large

I love this jacket, but not the fit. I'm 6'1 and 210lbs with a 44" chest. Depending on the manufacturer, I either wear an L or XL in a ski jacket. I found that this jacket in a Large was too big and baggy for my taste. I actually bought it in a Medium and it fits perfect, especially if you like more of a tailored fit. The jacket is really well insulated so I don't need to layer under it with more than a long sleeve compression shirt and a tee. If I do, its too cold for me anyway and I'm staying in.

Cold Day Killer

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:Runs large

I bought this jacket to fill my soft goods mountain quiver. I have a number of top brand coats, mainly shells so I was looking for a jacket that is great on the mountain for those cold days. THIS JACKET IS ROOMY. I am 5'9" and weigh 190 lbs with an athletic build. I find that it does fit big and is heavier than I am used to however it is very warm and airy sitting on the chairlift in January and February. Skiing in the warm alpine (6-10 degrees C) is very comfortable wearing a light breathable single layer.

The 2 layer Gore-Tex is definitely softer than my 3 layer Gore-Tex shells so this jacket appears to be less technical and would not be my first choice if backcountry or slackcountry is your targeted venue. Overall I am pleased with this product

what size did you go with M or L? Thx

Too big

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
  • Fit:Runs large

Love the coat, but I was expecting a more fitted style. I buy medium in everything but this medium fit really baggy. I'll be returning for a small. Like the dark charcoal color, makes it a little different than black but still neutral.

Patagonia's finest

This jacket is really nice. Keeps you warm in cold conditions. A bit higher end than the patagonia snowshot. True to size

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit:True to size

From the beasts of the easts to the giants of the west I have been skiing them all for the past 20+ years and have never came across a jacket as satisfying as the Patagonia Insulated Powder Bowl Jacket! Weather it be -25 without winchill or spring skiing out west I have put my powder bowl jacket to the test and time after time after time it prevails! Warm, comfortable, great fitting, reliable are all adjectives used to describe this jacket! I will use this jacket until it literally disintegrates, worth every penny you pay for it.
