Your hike has finished. Now comes time for a night on the town with the Patagonia Women's Morning Glory Dress to celebrate. This Patagonia dress uses a form-fitting halter-style top to provide a unique look and comfortable fit. The Morning Glory Dress' below-the-knees length goes great with your well-earned dinner out whether you do it with your hiking partners or your parents.
Bottom Line: Patagonia steps outside the mountains and lets you do the same with the Morning Glory Dress.
This is the most comfortable and flattering dress I have put on in a long time. One note is that the knot in the back can be uncomfortable when leaning against a chair.
I love this dress--its beautiful and extremely comfortable. It can easily be dressed up for a night out or dressed down for lounging about, and it is comfy enough that you'll definitely want to wear it while lounging. Best of all, even though it has no built-in bra, the bust support is fantastic. I almost always wear it without a bra even for super-active occasions. I would highly recommend it. The only downside is that he tie in back can be uncomfortable when sitting in chairs.
Is this dress dressy enough for a wedding? I am a bridesmaid in an upcoming wedding and I need a knee length black dress. I dont want it to look like a sun dress next to the other girls. How is the material will it be dressy enough?
Lyndsay, The Morning Glory Dress has been worn very often as a bridesmaid dress and would definitely work for you. The material drapes nicely and is dressy enough for sure.

this is a great dress, although I feel very dressed up when I wear it. it has good bust support - my friend and I agreed you might go up a size to accommodate a bigger chest. plus, then it's not too clingy. the material is like a bathing suit.
I've had my eyes on this dress for a while and when I saw it on sale I had to order it. I usually wear Medium but since there were none on sale, I tried my luck with a Large. I received it today and am really happy with it. I am 5'6 (140lb)and the dress just covers my knees. The tie in the back made all the difference (fit-wise) coz otherwise Large is usually too wide around my small bust. This way I can tighten it as much as I need and the waist area is a bit loser, so I don't have to feel too self conscious (the fabric is really comfy but def kinda unforgiving..especially in a lighter color). This is going to be great for basically everything...dressy and casual. The only downside is that I have to wait until it is warmer outside to wear it ;-)
I've had this dress for around 3 years, and I still love it! I took it on a 3 month trip around Africa and it handled the intense heat of the summer right along with me, and was easy to throw in my backpack and pull on in times when it wasn't appropriate for me to wear shorts. Comfortable and versatile except when sitting in hard-backed chairs (because of the knot in back).
Why was the Afterglow color discontinued? It's a very pretty color! I also think that blue color that isn't available but it shows the detailed dress pictures of is really pretty, too! Bummer!
The Blue color you see here is from 2007, that's why its not being sold anymore, great color though I agree. As for the "Afterglow" the reason companies list that, is because they are changing their "color story" for the next year and want to give you a heads up "Hey we are moving in a different direction, if you like this color snag it up" That sort of thing. Hope that answers your questions.
LOVE this dress. The picture didn't show it that well, but there is a cute tie thing on the lower back. I got the morning glory, and the color is gorgeous. The fit is great, too! I'm fairly thin, but have a tiny bit of the ol' stomach roll in really tight dresses. However, I found the cut of this dress very flattering. The only thing I might change is that it is a bit long-about three inches past my knee. Still, looks very cute. I am 5'7, about 120lbs. I am a 34B--the dress gives good support and just a tiny but if cleavage (not too scandalous). The fabric is kind of like bathing suit fabric--hoping it will be nice in the summer. It is pretty thick and seems durable.
This dress is gorgeous. Lots of compliments. It's tight fitting, but very comfortable. I'd say it's true to size unless you don't want it to fit you tightly. It seems more dressy than I wanted it, but I still love it as an evening dress--summertime of course! I highly recommend this dress.
Many of the reviewers of this dress sound like they're are wearing smaller sizes. Any word from bigger, curvier women? I'm 5'10 and 185 lbs, and would probably order the XL. Sometimes a dress like this can drape in a way that makes a woman my size look, well, lumpy. I'd love to hear from a larger woman who owns this dress.
Molly--I also just found this review from the Patagonia site...it might help even more than mine did. "I wanted to include a review from someone of a "curvier" figure as many of the reviews I had read before were from women in the 140 pound range and I waver around 180 and am 5'8". Previous reviews raved about this dress but I was skeptical at first as this dress has a spandex-like fabric and I worried it would highlight my flawed, curvier areas. Boy was I wrong! The L size was a bit tight in the hips area so I tried on the XL and it fit like a glove!!! It's very flattering for someone with a more curvier, full figure - I am a huge Patagonia fan and have multiple clothing items generally in the L size. No need to wear a bra with this dress either. It hit just below my knees and didn't scoop to low in the neckline either. It's totally comfortable, wrinkle-free, and versatile for any occasion! I plan on wearing this to many fancier occasions and pack it along in my future travel abroad plans. Would highly recommend this dress for curvier women like myself who've got the wider thighs and hips."
Molly--Not sure if this helps, but I'm about 5'7", 150-155 lbs, and definitely curvy (34 D on a good day). The material on this dress is substantial, and I was really please at how it hung on my body. I, too, worry about how these types of clothes drape on a body type that is not "boyish" as most of the Patagonia models appear that way to me. I tried on this dress in the store and was very pleased with how flattering the fit and drape were. And in comparison to other dresses with v-neck cuts, this one was the most modest in terms of cleavage. So it was form-fitting without showing every little bump or curve and not as low cut as other Patagonia dresses (Margot in particular). I'm holding out for the right color and price, but I do plan on purchasing this dress in the future. Hope this helps.
This dress can do anything. It's absolutely gorgeous for dress up if you add a chunky necklace and put your hair up. But, you can add flip flops and be casual, too. The small fit me perfectly, and I am 5'6", 117ish lbs. You don't need a bra with this since the fabric is pretty substantial (fine for smaller-busted ladies). The ONLY complaint is that if you are going to be sitting, the knot in the back can make your spine kind of hurt! The length is good too, below the knee to mid-calf on me.
I can't say enough great things about this dress. I wear it everywhere, including rafting. I'll wear it in the river...it drys quickly and then still looks good enough to grab dinner afterwards. I'm 5'6'' 135 and 34D...I wear a medium with a swimsuit or without a bra. It has been referred to as the river goddess dress and all of my friends want to get one!
Yes It shows in the chest area...big time. I bought this dress, love it, LOVE IT. But trust me do not wear it to the wedding or church if your girls are size C or bigger. I'm a 34 C, 5'7" 120lbs and it has lots of cleavage.
The Patagonia Morning Glory dress is the perfect dress for a summer wedding. I've even heard of it being used as a brides maid dress, so I'm sure it will work well for you and provide ample coverage.
This dress is so fabulous I bought 2. It is the most comfortable dress and, for that matter, piece of clothing I've ever owned. It's best feature is that you can dress it up for a night on the town or wear it as simple beach attire. The material, the built in bra, the stylish halter and free flowing empire waist achieve a sexy, flattering, comfortable end result. I just can't say enough about this dress!!!!
This dress is fantastic and is my new summer staple! The fit is slimming on top and glides over your curves on the bottom. I have worn it to my rehearsal dinner for my wedding with jewelry and out hiking/kayaking too, sans bra (I'm a 36 B/C...not too big up there). The fabric is similar to swimsuit material, quick drying, yet also flattering. I have the Fusion Sunset color (burnt orange) and liked it so much that I bought the Patagonia Half Mass messenger bag in the same color. Enjoy ladies!
this is by far my most favorite dress i've ever owned. I had the earthenware in a small, ordered blk and navy in xs on accident and quickly reordered small. :( navy sold out. Patagonia should definately keep this dress forever, in all the earth tones and new wild colors every year. I wear it so much I'm thinking about ordering another in earthenware and black in case they quit making it! The cut is so flattering and in the hot sticky south where just thinking about doing nothing but sitting in the shade outside can make you sweat the swimsuit fabric is like the cool side of a pillow. I usually wear an XS, but the under bust seam and sides of the bust were way small (i'm 5'4" 120 34C) however the patagonia bahnda dress fits me perfect in XS. it's an awesome dress also.
This dress is a perfect fit. I like it for going out and dressing it up, but I think it's a good summer dress for the day time as well. I have a larger chest and I like the support it gives me. I got it in an XS and it's a great length, as well as a great bust support. I would definitely recommend this dress. The blue harbor color is just as it seems in the picture too, so if you like the color online, you won't be disappointed!
How's the cleavage on this dress? I'm a 34 B, 5'6" and plan on ordering a small. I prefer more coverage on top. A little is okay, but I don't want a plunging neckline.
I've worn this dress, and even though I'm larger in the chest, I'm sure it will fit nicely in that area. I didn't have bulging cleavage hanging out, or any 'smooshed' uncomfortablness. I have also seen another gal wear it, that had no kind of chest, and it fit over that area just fine. It really is quiet a cute dress! I just didn't like the length, in the end.
I have this dress in a medium and think it's great. I'm about your size, 5'6", 130-135 ish, 34a/b...it's not super low. I feel comfortable leaning over in it, not afraid of exposing the girls at all.
Like someone else said, the only drawback is the knot in the back--otherwise, I'd probably be wearing it 24/7 when traveling. It's flattering, wicked comfortable, can be dressed up or down, it's really a perfect summer dress. Never would have thought it would be so cute when it was on the hanger, so definitely give it a shot.
I bought this dress for my fiance and we both love it. It fits her body really well, which I enjoy, and it's apparently really comfortable which she enjoys. I've taken her hiking and to a nice dinner in the dress. Plus it was 25% off which was great. Guys, you should definitely get this dress for your girl, she'll love it! Word of advice though, take her to a store that has the dress in stock to make sure you get the right size. Then get the right price at backcountry.com. That's every mans downfall when it comes to buying clothes for women.
I've had this dress for a few years now. I like it so much I'm ordering another one. Pros. Hides all my defects like my belly. Travels well to places where I could only handwash it. Doesn't need ironing. Grows with you. If your size changes so does the tie in the back. Goes from casual to formal dinner in a flash.
Cons. Need a bra as the nipples do show. And that's one without straps! V-neck is a little low, can show cleavage. Knot in the back can be annoying when you are sitting at dinner.
I bought this because I got the Morning Glory Halter top last year, which I love and wear from casual to climbing all the time. Also, saw 2 chicks wearing this dress at a friend's wedding. It doesn't matter that a lot of women own this because I don't blame them! Its so comfy and stretchy. I love that you don't have to wear a bra, but it still gives support. Patagonia needs to make this in more bright colors!
I wore this dress to a kickball game (I wasn't playing that day). Then we went and had drinks. I wore it with flip flops and it was very comfortable and I got LOTS of compliments! I am 5'7" and weigh right at 120 lbs. It was sooo comfortable, but I was still plenty dressed up. I nursed my son for awhile (previously) and I had no problem with support in that area...
Patagonia, while staying "true to it's core" (as corporate brochures state) of rock climbing low percent body fat flat-chested women athletes, does not have much in the way of casual wear that is well fitting or applicable to D-sized athletic women. Do not attempt this dress if your cup size is D or larger, it just isn't a flattering look. The fabric looks and feels lux, though. Seems like a good price for the quality. I had to return mine, however....
I bought this dress on a suggestion of a friend and am so glad I did. I think it is the best dress I have ever tried on. It has a very flattering shape, with a fitted halter top, semi fitted middle (enough to make you look slim but doesnt show your belly if you have one) and an A line skirt about 1 inch below the knee. I'm 5'10" and wear between an 8 and 10 and the medium fit perfect(VERY fitted on my 34Ds but not to much cleavage). The material is thicker than I though which was a plus. There is a very cute tie in the back which makes for the only two negatives: You can't wear a bra with it, and if you wear a sweater or something over it there is a lump where the tie is. It is both wedding and beach appropriate, perfect! Hope this helps any perspective buyers!
This dress was lovely, nice material, nice color; I just couldn't deal with straps that you need to tie in the back. I felt the lump from the knot when sitting back in a chair or when I tried it with a sweater. I prefer to have a dress where you don't need to adjust. I had also ordered the Patagonia Vitaliti dress, which fit me much better, no knot to tie in the back. So this one was returned.
I love this dress and would say it was my favorite, but for a shimmering silver number I have hanging in my closet. However, the Morning Glory dress is super stylish and comfortable and I'd like to have one in every color.
I'm 5'5'' and typically wear a dress Size 6. I ordered the medium based on others' reviews. I was most worried about how well this dress would support 'the girls' (my bust is 34 D), but it does amazingly well. The fabric is substantial enough to keep 'em in place. Had I just seen this dress on a hanger in a store, I never would have given it a shot. I wouldn't do any jogging in it, but it'll be nice to skip the bra in the hot weather. The length is good - hits me just below the knee. The fabric does tend to cling a little in the midsection, but overall the fit is very flattering.
This dress is really comfortable, even on humid sticky days or nights. The length fits me well, short enough to show a little leg, long enough to ride the cruiser bike around town. The fit is becoming, but be careful of panty lines.
Just got back from a cruise in Hawaii, couldn't have brought a better dress along. Came out of my suitcase looking perfect! The fit is wonderful, not too clingy...a must have, go-to travel dress.
This dress is so comfy, but unless you are six foot tall, it's too long for a do-anything summer dress. I'm five-3 and it comes to mid-calf. Hems great though
I'm 5ft4 and this dress is way too long for me... I read the reviews before and thought I would give it a try. It is not (definitely not) a "dressy" dress and yes, it does feel like a bathing suit. I'm a full C cup and it supports absolutely nothing. With a bra it looks stupid, so I'm sorry to say this is going to be returned.
You must not be a C cup, then. As a 5'2" 32 DD, I find this dress absolutely fine support. The length was an issue for a time, but 2 years later, when I tried it on agian, I realized it was an acceptable length. It hits me just about mid-calf (You could get away with riding a bike in it). I don't know how it would feel like a bathing suit. It's a more smooth, technical fabric, that works a lot better than a swimsuit! I've been hiking in the dress, out 'on the town', and used it for casual wear. The dress is very versatile, and I think it is plenty dressy. (Maybe unless you are going to a galla event). I have recieved many compliments on the way the dress looks on me. (Never a bad thing). In fact, a friend convinced me to get the dress again, because it looked so good on me. (Not lying). All I can say is you must of needed a different size, or wasn't really looking for a great dress like this one anyway.
I'd actually like to revise my last sentance, alittle. What I should really say is, like most things a person buys and wears, different cuts and shapes look good on different people. So, maybe this dress just doesn't flatter your figure. One of my friends tried the dress, and it didn't look good on her. But, another dress that did look good on her, didn't on me.
This is the most comfortable and flattering dress I have put on in a long time. One note is that the knot in the back can be uncomfortable when leaning more...
I love this dress--its beautiful and extremely comfortable. It can easily be dressed up for a night out or dressed down for lounging about, and it is more...
