best bag i have had in a loooong time

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I absolutely love this bag. It holds an amazing amount of stuff. I bought it for my secondary carry on bag for when I travel but I decided to use it as my every day bag when I got it in my hands. There is a pocket for everything (almost)! It even has a laptop pocket but your laptop would have to be on the smaller end which luckily mine is! It seems to be pretty well water resistant as well. I have had it out in a few rain storms and everything inside stayed nice and dry. Love this bag and patagonia, it is quickly becoming my new favorite brand...

    Front/Back

Under flap : Easy access zipper under the flap and more visble daisy chains sewn on the bag.

Back : Durable and hefty handle for when it's jam packed. Also offers a small strap/handle underneath the bag. Slip your papers, map, ticket, etc. in the back velcro pocket.

    My son's new school backpack

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

While shopping for new back-to-school packs my son surprisingly picked this messenger bag. Also not to mention, he's in first grade this year. So I was a little skeptical about getting a messenger and not a regular backpack for support and comfort. So far so good, he loves the size and the strap. It offers SO MUCH room for anything he needs. The bottom of the messenger has a durable polyester ripstop and I love that it's been treated with the DWR (durable water repellent). So if he's hanging outside waiting for me to pick him up, whether it's raining or snowing, he's good. The flap offers buckles which are really easy to open and close (no pinching included). I also like that it offers a reflective stripe for low lightening when on the go. All the essentials for him going to school are included, even has a mesh elastic bottle holder for his HydroFlask.

When he's not using it, I am! It's the perfect bag for an adult that wants to carry more than maybe can fit in your purse. I've worn it while out at the zoo or concerts. It's just large enough to bring that light jacket, wallet, water bottle, accessories, phone, snacks, etc. It has organizer pockets for just about everything without feeling overwhelmed. I included some more detailed photos just encase you're wondering what it looks like in there. I'm 5'9" and this works great on my hip or even goes down much lower if needed. The adjustability is a nice detail, if you've tried on other messengers some don't offer that as much as you would think.

Carter is also wearing his new The North Face Graphic Tee in Boys' Short Sleeve T-shirts which is offered here at Backcountry.com

    School/Travel Bag

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I researched for weeks trying to find the perfect bag that could double as a school bag (college) and a travel bag. With a higher price point, I really wanted something that had multiple uses. I LOVE this bag. I've had it for several months now and have no major complaints. The bag is comfortable to wear. It fits all of my school supplies and has adequate room for my computer, although it can be a tight squeeze causing some difficulty to pull it in and out if I'm not really trying (13 inch macbook air). I can generally fit two or three text books, depending on the thickness, with a reading book as well. It has several extra pockets that I love to use for chargers, sticky notes, etc. I've been in the rain with it before (not a complete downpour, but enough to make me nervous) and never had damage to anything in the bag. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with the purchase and would recommend this bag!

    Perfect everyday bag

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've used this bag for two weeks and I think it's terrific. I have a lot of little things to manage, and having this makes me feel like I have help rather than something else to struggle with. The organization, access, and pockets are very well thought out. I tried a bag a few weeks ago that was 15L in size, but it wasn't as well planned and I'm actually able to fit more in this one. I'm a writer and editor with two young kids, and I wanted something great for everyday adventures/child-wrangling that would also work well for work. This is it. It's the perfect size for a parent bag, with room for everyone's water bottles, jackets, snacks, plus the usual stuff anyone would carry in a purse. There's room in the organizer panel to stow things I need to have every day but don't use constantly, like sunscreen and bug repellent. We spend a lot of time outdoors, and this bag is sturdy enough for any environment and easy to carry while walking long distances or on uneven terrain. It's very easy to access the bag's contents while I'm carrying it and on the move, which is so helpful with kids. It's also just the right size to carry my 13" MacBook Pro (2010 model - so thick! Anything more recent will fit with absolutely no problems!), full-sized planner/notebook, tablet, camera, and power cords. I only load it up for work a few times each week, but if I used it for daily technology hauling or a commute, I'd want a pad for that shoulder strap. If I wanted to carry all the kid stuff and all the work stuff at the same time, I'd probably want a bigger bag, but I'm usually just doing one or the other or a bit of each. This bag is so lightweight and easy to manage that I am also happy to carry it even when I just have a few things inside -- it keeps its shape and stays out of the way. I got the black, and I love the versatility and style. That stark black strap looks great with everything, in many contexts. I use the zip pockets on and under the flaps for my wallet, keys, sunglasses, and phone, and access is very fast and easy. The stretch mesh laptop divider is brilliant -- it holds contents that are several inches thick when I'm using the bag for work, but doesn't get in the way a bit when I load up the main compartment for bulkier things. I also love the stretch mesh water bottle holder -- very sturdy, big enough to hold fairly large bottles if that's what you want, secure enough to keep just about any bottle in place. The smaller interior pockets in the organization panel are little enough to keep things organized, but big enough to be useful. I can also comment on the water resistance, after attending a two-hour outdoor party in the rain (we are crazy) last weekend. I didn't give the bag a second thought while we were out, and everything stayed perfectly dry (though I wasn't toting any tech at the time). This is my first Patagonia purchase, but I have high hopes for long-term use and durability based on this brand's reputation. Ethical labor practices play a big role in all our purchasing decisions, this one included, and I'm glad my perfect bag purchase supports a company that appears to be doing things right. I was also very happy with my purchasing experience from Backcountry.com -- very fast shipping. Thanks!
