Details

A baselayer with an extreme comfort range.

The Men's Merino Midweight Zip-Neck Top is Patagonia's most versatile baselayer for winter skiing and shoulder season camping. Made mostly of merino wool, this top naturally resists odor, warms with midweight thermal regulation, and gives a long-lasting smooth feel. Patagonia added recycled Capilene fibers for a touch of quick-drying moisture management. Offset shoulder seams accommodate backpack shoulder straps more comfortably.

Great Gift

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I recently purchased this for my father for his birthday. I also bought him the matching bottoms to make complete the base layer kit. He is happy with them, and loves the feel of the merino/poly knit. He is used to scratchy regular wool long johns so these are a big upgrade. He did say that these were more 3 season baselayers, and that he would want to go up to the Heavyweight version for winter.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the fact that the wool is renewable and the polyester is recycled. I wish more companies would produce so sustainably.

Fit a little tight

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: M

Wore this shirt for three straight days when climbing Engineer in Co recently. Loved it! Didn't smell at all when I finally took it off and I promise you, I was sweating a lot. I am 5'10'' 160 with a normal build. I found the shirt to fit a little snug. The zip-neck was crucial for dumping heat when we started to work hard.

Merino wool is the best

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I've worn this top several times. Used it as a base layer for a hike recently and it kept me warm and dry. Washed it and wore it again for a bike ride into town. Washed it again (it washed well and keeps it's shape) and wore it again as a base layer for luge training. A great purchase and a great fit.
