When you'll be climbing, running, hiking, or traveling for weeks without doing laundry, the Patagonia Men's Merino 1 Silkweight T-Shirt will keep you comfortable and stink-free. The merino wool in this short-sleeve shirt naturally breathes and resists odors from building up over days of wear, and the soft fabric regulates your body temperature if you're too hot or too cold. Polyester was added to this baselayer for durability, dry times, and moisture transfer that will keep you dry during your entire hike in the hot sun.

  • Blending merino wool with polyester results in a breathable shirt that naturally controls odor, that's durable, and that wicks moisture
  • Slim fit allows easy layering if you want a windbreaker when you top out on multipitch routes
  • Side seams prevent bulking and uncomfortable rubbing and chafing
  • Set-in sleeves give you a natural freedom of movement

Much itchier than my old shirt

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit:True to size
  • Size Bought: L

I have two of these in much older models, and I'm having problems adjusting to the new shirt. It is much coarser than my older shirts and itches more than any merino shirt or socks I've ever had. I'm washing it every week even if not dirty to see if it will help. I've used merino for years for backpacking and love it. Hopefully the shirt will soften and break in. If it does, I'll re-review.

Great Shirt for Running

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I use this garment for running in most weather conditions from spring through summer until mid-autumn. I've tried other manufacturers and other fabrics, but they just don't compare well against this product in terms of fit and functionality. I run 8 or more miles a week.

The shirt is a light weight wool blend fabric and the fit is against the skin. The shirt wicks moisture away from the body well and is not too heavy in the warmest weather. The fabric works well in this regard. It doesn't feel like I'm running in a sponge, like heavier t-shirts I've owned. Also, odor control is good.

Neither fully synthetic t-shirts nor cotton t-shirts work as well for running. While synthetic t-shirts wick moisture well, they are terrible with body odor. Cotton t-shirts tend to soak up moisture like a sponge and lack the comfort.

Because of the light weight fabric, the product may not hold up as well over time. Nevertheless, there is a definite benefit to the light fabric weight in terms of comfort in a variety of conditions.

I have used this product for over a year and a half, running pretty much every week, twice a week. I replaced the first one after a year, with another patagonia merino 1. I've tried other shirts, but nothing else has worked as well.

Very glad to find it at a discount at

I highly recommend this product.

Use it for mtn biking, great product

  • Size Bought: XL

I am a big fan of Merino wool products and Patagucci nailed this one. The XL size I purchased fits well, I am 5' 11" and 200 lbs. But I like a looser fit. Performs well in the heat assoc with climbing for a couple of hrs on Park City's mtn bike trails.

awesome shirt

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times
  • Fit:True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

i decided to go with a wool shirt because when out on road trips, washing can be inconvenient. I've worn this shirt for days straight and can't believe there is no smell! The fabric is soft, yet pretty durable. I've been out bouldering on sandstone and despite a few sketchy mantles, there is no visible damage to the shirt. 5'9 135ish and went with the M and found it fits a bit tighter than Icebreaker's wool shirts, but not skin tight (exactly what I was looking for).

Sure, it's expensive, but it's the best t-shirt I've ever bought. On a 7 day fishing trip in the backcountry, this is the only t-shirt I would bring. And no odor whatsoever---this smells exactly the same after several days of non-stop hiking.
