Nice hat, poor fit.

I like everything about this hat minus the fit.
The Good: The material is great and it does an awesome job of wicking away any moisture. It also dries fast and makes an excellent hat for out on the trail. In addition I love the fish logo and it is perfect in scale and color.
The Bad: The fit, the fit, the fit. I ordered a large which is what I wear in every other hat. I even wear a L in other Patagonia hats. This cut is just way too big. Order a size down and you should be just fine.
Sweet hat!

I have a big head, its hard getting the right hat. I ordered a size L and even with my large head, I could not get this hat to fit properly. Its a nice hat, so its too bad it doesn't fit right. Not what I would consider a typical size "L". The sizing measurements appear to be misleading too, since my head fits within the middle range for the sizing.
finally a hat that fits me!

weird shaped head? Yeah that's me. The small fits me so good, it's really the only baseball hat that actually fits. It's getting beat up pretty bad, but that doesn't deter me from wearing it everywhere.
Great hat

I have a pretty large head and have never found a cap that fits until this one. I love it. It is super comfortable and adjusts very easily.

I would never on any normal day spend this much money on a hat. But I must say this hat is outstanding, the kind you can wear all day and not get a headache or get annoyed. Excellent quality and craftsman ship, this is what a $25 hat looks like. Make sure you size your head appropriately.

Great buy! Am out on the water at least 3 times a week and this is by far the best had I've worn in years. Patagonia's expensive but worth every penny!
Love my cap....

I love the way the cap fits - love that it is cotton fabric on the shell - love the fabric under the bill that protects from the sun.

I stole this hat from my wife in 2004 during hurricane Ivan. She stole it from some guy in Alabama. So far, it's been through several other hurricanes, fishing trips in the Gulf, camping in East Africa, and recently the hands and mouth of our one year old son. I am only just now replacing the hat after an unfortunate cleaning incident involving bleach. It probably would have lasted for years. Its a tough hat that fits perfectly.
Will this hat shrink? I love the hat, but...

Will this hat shrink? I love the hat, but the sizing seems to be an issue for some people. I think I'd be a medium. How true to size do these run?

McLane,
I haven't heard of any issues with the hat shrinking, and I think it runs pretty true to size - the strap offers a decent amount of adjustability too. I'd say shoot for the medium and Backcountry or Patagonia can help you out w/a return if it's not right.

Soft, low profile and light weight. I can't stand hats that tower above my head or are stiff...this Patagonia hat is neither of those things. The Khaki color goes with just about anything, and this is one of those hats you can just throw on any time you don't feel like combing your hair.
