Patagonia made the Lightweight Hiking Crew Socks for hikers and backpackers hitting the trail in cool to warm conditions. These crew socks come up to your mid-calf, which makes them great to wear with light hikers or running shoes. A special blend of merino wool and synthetic fabrics wicks moisture, fights odor, and delivers next-to-skin softness. Elastic material hugs your arches and prevents the Lightweight Hiking Crew Socks from falling into your boots, while padding at the shin and top-of-foot bolsters comfort.

Bottom Line: Pull on the Patagonia Lightweight Hiking Crew Socks and hit the trail for an ultra-light backpacking trip.

Feets, dont fail me now

By:

These socks are super comfortable and warm. If you've got big feets, the XL's will do the trick. Im a size 14 and these things fit perfectly. No more stretching out those size 6-12 socks. Great for hiking but I usually wear them casually or to work.

They are OK, but I prefer the Ultra Lt Wt which is to calf and not mid-calf. It is much cooler and feels the same.

Depends what kind of weather you have for summer, but in general, I think they'd be a little overkill for the summer or warm/hot weather.

One of my favorite socks

By:
March 18, 2008

This is now one of my favorite socks. I have worn the medium weight variant before, but much prefer this fit and feel for most applications. VERY durable and maintains a good fit after lots of wear. Very warm for the light-weight, so it might not be great for summer use, but for wet, cold use it is great.

Warm socked...

By:

Have several pairs of these in various colors that I use in the fall/winter. They're like a snug sleeping bag for your feet. They fit great, are comfy both for daily use or as a hiking sock. They also breathe very well so I don't get that foot stank my other half loves me for. A bit more expensive for socks, but they'll last well beyond the typical socks I'd by and look much cooler (at least that's how I justified them to the wife).

Sock KraK

By:

Only two problems I have with these socks. One is I got a pair for Christmas and now I am hooked and the other is that the price is pretty high. Good news is that I always pick these first if they are clean and sometimes when they are not. My favorite summer weight socks bar none. Fit like a dream and never smells.

there is a reason Smartwool rules

By:

These look and feel great at first. Turns out they were not a good purchase though. Shoddy manufacturing or something, holes in the toe seam, hole in the heel, the cuff at the top came apart. These were bad. Plus the initial softness goes away after you wash and dry them. Bad experience overall. I expect better from Patagonia.

own a couple pairs of these

By:

These guys aren't bad. Not as good as smartwool, but a nice light weight. They wear through in the heels and in the front pad kinda quickly. They are great for summer hiking, and layering once they are broken in. Not super warm for winters.

Better than Smartwool

By:
November 28, 2008

These are great socks and are more comfortable for long wear than a similar pair I have by SW. I bought 3 more pair after the first. These may be a bit heavy for everyday, indoor use. For that, I would go with Patagonia's Everyday sock. I bought some of these as well. The socks stay warm, even when wet and seem pretty durable so far. They do shrink a bit on washing but you can stretch them back out by hand. Worth the cost.

I'm not going to use smart wool again.

By:
March 28, 2008

I used these during a week in the Smokey Mountains in combination with the Patagonia Lightweight Hiking Crew Liner Socks. I thought they were better than the smart wool i usually use, even more comfortable. The only problem I had with them was they weren't quite warm enough at night as it got below freezing.

OK but not perfect

By:
December 21, 2009

Have three types of Patagonia hiking socks - Light,Mid and Heavyweight. For design and comfort I rate them a A+. There seems to be a major issue with them though. I don't wear them constantly, maybe a dozen times a year, so I am a little disappointed to find they seem to develope holes or tears easily. The heavyweights have not done this yet but the other weights have. This might be attributable to the fact that my foot size ( 11 1/2 ) is at the extreme end of the "Large" sock size and that they fit snug. Still, I expected a little more durable sock.
