Description

What every nature-lovin' gal needs to combat winter's deep chill.

When you wear the Patagonia Women's Hi-Loft Down Sweater and someone makes a comment concerning the frigid weather (we all just have to suck it up), you'll have no problem doing so. This sweater's 100% recycled polyester fabric gives the earth a big high-five, the 800-fill European goose down stops the cold from chilling you to the bone, and the DWR coating helps repel light flakes. This lightweight jacket packs easily into your backpack and can be worn as a midlayer during wet winter storms or as a stand-alone piece on cold-and-clear days.

Patagonia High Loft down

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

I love this jacket, but I don't love the color. It's a beautiful coat and very warm, but the red is more like...the color of Campbell's Tomato soup with milk added. The color Tomato was a little confusing since some tomatoes can be quite red. Just in case someone is wondering, it is NOT a vibrant red, candy apple red or maraschino. It has a strong orange twang to it. Not that that's bad, it just isn't what I was looking for.

My new favorite jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I finally justified the money a down sweater cost and purchased this. I was a bit skeptical, since I had not been able to see/try on a Patagonia in any local stores. I did look at North Face and also Marmot. I loved the Marmot but even a size large would not fit my hips. I didn't really want a North Face because I see them everywhere and just don't want to look like everyone else. I got this jacket (I can't really call it a sweater) in a size large (I am 5'5" and 150 pounds) and it fits perfectly. It is very warm on its own but layered under or even over another layer and it's crazy warm. It compacts into a very small package which is great when worn skiing.....if I get too warm, I can stuff it into its little bag and put into the pocket of my ski shell. I find myself wearing it nearly every day. I got black because it goes with everything and avoids the "see through" look many colored down jackets seem to have. The finish is nice....not overly shiny but it does have a slight sheen to it. Love, love LOVE this purchase!

Not as expected

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Very comfortable and light weight,
but as far as the color I got, white one, it looks horrible. Looks old and you can see the down inside.
I returned because the color I got is nothing compared to the picture.
Maybe other colors look better but don't get the white, its pretty ugly.

I am wondering if the red is the bright vibrant red that they show.

Smaller cut than the down sweater.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I am 5'3", 34B with broad shoulders. The XS fits nicely. I could not wear a fleece underneath and expect to zip it or move my arms from front to back. If I wanted to wear layers, I would have gotten the small, but then the arms would be too long. I thought it fit exactly the same as my Mountain Hardwear small Nitrous down jacket. I have no hips, so it worked. Otherwise it would have been too tight since it completely covers by butt. I love the tomato color because it is more of a coral than a true red. It is lightweight and stylish, but the fit can be challenging.

Great Fit and Comfort

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift
  • Fit: True to size

I purchased this for my wife and she loves it- it is crazy lightweight and really warm. The women's cut is great as well as it is not as "boxy" or bulky looking as the men's version.
It packs down easily to fit into any size pack and is slim fitting enough to wear as a midlayer if you needed a lot of warmth.

Can someone describe the tomato color? ...

Can someone describe the tomato color? It seems bright. Is it deep red like a tomato, washed out pink, coral-like, etc?
I am debating between this jacket and the North Face Thunder Down.

The tomato colorway on this jacket will be closer to a bright red. I don't really see any pink like characteristics in that color either.

Great Jacket

  • Fit: True to size

Just received this jacket in tidal teal and fell in love. I have yet to buy a Patagonia product I haven't liked. This jacket has a great fit that isn't too bulky or boxy, but still affords room for thick clothing underneath. It's highly compressible (fits in a little travel bag that's included), and incredibly warm. I'm 5'1" and 118 lbs, and purchased the Small.

Love it!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I ve had my coat for about 3 weeks and its great! It is very light weight but warm. It's only gotten down to the forties but so far it has kept me toasty. The fit is great, not to puffy. I'm 5'6" and pretty petite through the shoulders i got a small but it was a nit big so I got an xsmall and the fit is great. I wish the sleeves were a bit longer but that's more a problem of my long arms and narrow shoulders, not the jacket. Overall love the coat and would totally recommend it.

Perfect jacket

This jacket is incredible! I am so happy I bought it. The first day I got it, I was heading out to a Jazz game. It was going to be cold at night and I wanted a jacket for when I left the game, and you ladies know that carrying around a bulky jacket all night can get really old, really fast. Thankfully, I had received my Patagonia Hi-Loft Down Sweater and it comes with a handy pouch that I can stuff the entire jacket into. It turns into about the size of a nalgene bottle, which I can conveniently stuff into my purse. It was wonderful not having to worry about carrying my jacket everywhere with me and having my hands full. Nevermind the fact that it feels like you are wearing 100 warm marshmallows when you have it on. I'm 5'10" and 140 and the medium fits like a dream. I would recommend this jacket to anyone.

Nice fall jacket

Patagonia is superb! I love my Hi-loft, keeps me warm and out of all the Patagonia womens jacket this and the down sweater fit great in an xs, even in the sleeve length, which is usually a problem for me. I am 5'7" 118 lbs with a 34 A bust, making it hard to find a good fitting jacket with the right sleeve length.

One of best purchases

I love love this jacket! I have it in the green which is one of the best looking Patagonia jackets I have seen, and for some reason seems to be better quality than other patagonia jackets. I am 5ft 6 and 130-135 lbs and got the medium which looks good and is great for layering. I have worn it skiing with a shell over on really cold days and it keeps me toasty warm. I am planning to take it trekking in the Himalayas because it is really light weight and super warm. One of my best purchases ever!

Nice Surprise

Living in upstate NY, I'm always cold in the winter. I finally gave in and bought a down jacket. When I got it, it was so light I thought for sure I would have to send it back. Wrong! It is surprisingly very warm. I got the green, only because it was on sale - would have preferred a purple. I have gotten soooo many compliments on it and found an inexpensive scarf locally that matches perfectly. Very happy with it.

Higher Loft=More warmth which is perfect for forever-colds like me.

the perfect down jacket!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

traded in my regular down sweater for the high loft version and couldn't be happier. great fit, the extra down boosts the warmth of this jacket - solid for 3+ seasons and all but the coldest winter days in the mountains. it is several inches longer than the regular version (~3" longer in the back) which made a big difference for me. hits 1-2" below the hips - vs. the regular version that hit at or just above hips and tended to ride up. durable nylon material and decent water repellency (not waterproof by any means, but can weather a light shower).

i got the green and it's a nice bright kelly green, love it! doesn't show through like some mentioned of the lighter colors.

regular version stuffs into its own pocket - the new high loft does not, but comes w/ a small stuff sack and packs down really well.

i'm 5'-5"/ 125 lbs and small fits perfect.

if you are debating regular vs. the high loft, plunk down the extra $20 and go for it!!

Best. Down Jacket. Ever

I'm into my second winter with this jacket and I love it! Sooo warm but light-weight at the same time. I got the green which is a lot of fun. One of the cool things about this jacket is that it stuffs into its own internal pocket!

Great Fit, Can See Down Through Shell

Great fitting outer layer, but beware of the lighter colors (I bought the Sky Blue version for my wife) as you can see the down through the outer shell. Might be an issue for some.

Love this jacket!!

I absolutely love this jacket!!! It super light and very warm! I'm tall so it's hard to find a women's jacket that is long enough in the torso and sleeves. I'm 5'11" and 150 lbs and the large is perfect! There is enough room to wear a layer of expedition weight capilene and fleece jacket underneath. The fit is also great-It has more of the feminine fit and not boxy like most down jackets. Cord at bottom is great for keeping the wind out. I would highly recommend this jacket!

LOVE IT!!!

I got the hi loft down sweater to replace an old version of patagonia's down jacket. I couldn't be happier with it!!

I tried on the regular down sweater before and wasn't pleased with the fit- rather boxy and wide. I also had a hard time imagining that it would keep me warm enough, considering how thin it was. I get cold very easily.

I decided to go out on a limb and order the hi loft down sweater instead, even though I didn't get to try it on (no stores carried it yet). I am so pleased with my purchase. The fit is excellent; it is longer, especially in the back, and fits slimmer in the waist. I am 5'10, 155 lbs, and the Large is great. Plenty long in the sleeves. Its not a whole lot bulkier or heavier than the regular down sweater either.

I wear it mostly by itself around town, and I can layer underneath it easily. On really cold days when snowboarding, I wear it under my shell. Its a little puffy, but i don't feel at all like the kid from the Christmas Story, which i was concerned about. In fact, yesterday was really cold and windy on the slopes, I wore a capeline long sleeve, R1 Pullover, Hi loft down sweater, and my Arcteryx shelll, and I didn't feel resticted at all.

All in all, I think that this is the best down jacket on the market! The only improvement that could be made would be to offer it with a hood.
