Shorts to make you smile, mile after mile.

The first time you wear the Patagonia Women's Happy Hike Shorts on a day hike with your friends, you might be the only one wearing them. The second time you all meet up, however, your friends will probably have caught on and all gotten pairs of their own. Four-way stretch fabric makes moving magical and dries in record time if you get ambushed by hiking buddies with semi-automatic water cannons. The hidden drawstring waist offers extra protection from pals whose sense of humor hasn't evolved past third grade.

    A flattering fit for adventures

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 4

I own 3 pairs of these shorts. They are the most amazing pair of adventure shorts I have EVER owned. They are stretchy--good for under a climbing harness, day hiking with large movements, and they stretch in a very flattering way. I am an athletic build with a "bubble butt" and these shorts make my butt look great! Some outdoor shorts make your butt look flat--not these ones. Their durability has been second to none--owned the 3 pairs for about five years now...they have been washed on rocks in Guatemala and sun dried on canoe trips in Louisiana and the only damage I see is the blue pair's pocket stitching is unraveling now.

The length is on point for being a pair of women's' adventure shorts as well as wear them out on a summer evening grabbing a beer in town post summit.

    A flattering fit for adventures

    Forever and Always <3

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small

I will never go back to another short- I hope they make these happy hikers til the day I die! Rocking all three colors, I hope they come out with some more! These shorts are not only extremely lightweight and moisture wicking, but they can take a beating!! I have worn these on several expeditions- snagging them on trees, sliding down scree slopes, and all season on the river! These dry quickly, and they fit incredibly well on my lanky bod. I normally wear a 2, and fit well in a 4 in these- especially with the elastic tie adjustment! The pockets, front and back, are the kind of pockets all women's shorts need.. just an overall perfected design.

Did I mention they're complimented just about every time I have em' on? Do yourself a favor. Get these shorts, and make yourself a happy hiker!

    Extremely Durable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 4

Got these for my girlfriend. She usually wears a size 2, but thought that the size 4 was more comfortable and left lots of room for movement. If you want the tight fit, go with your normal size, if not, size up. It is made of this lightweight and fast drying material, which was great for hiking and rock climbing. We even were near a waterfall and the shorts didn't get wet- leaving water droplets on the surface of the shorts! She also slid down 10ft on rocks and the shorts didn't rip or get damaged so it is extremely durable! She highly recommends them!

    AMAZING

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 6

These are the most comfortable hiking shorts I have ever had! The material is stretchy, extremely breathable, durable, and dries quickly. It almost feels like I'm not wearing any pants when I am hiking, it's amazing! Please note: the shorts run a bit small. I am generally a size 4, but that was way too small for me in these shorts, so I re-ordered a 6. They fit perfectly. Fortunately, there is a small tie in the front of the shorts so even if they are a tad big they will fit you! I recommend that you order a size larger than you normally wear.

    Flexible and Breathable- LOVE IT!

I bought these to go hiking in Yosemite and they did the job. Its a nice breathable material and it doesn't restrict your movement. It is also light so you don't feel it on your waist. I usually wear a size 2, but I sized up reading all the reviews. I'm satisfied with buying a size 4. I feel that it fits me on my waist well. The waistband falls above my hips (so I'd like to say its low waisted for me). I was worried buying a size smaller would be too small on my waist. There is a string inside the shorts if you need to tighten it more.

Update: I absolutely love these shorts! Super comfortable as well! It was great during rock climbing and extremely durable against rocks. It even repelled some water droplets when I got it wet. Highly recommend it!

    Nice shorts but strange fit

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 10

I love Patagonia tops but I'm starting to think they make all their bottoms for size 0 women. I really like the style, material and color (I bought the forge grey), but I ordered a size 6 originally and they were comically small. I sized up to a 10 thinking they would be more roomy and they're still surprisingly tight but I can work with it. The length is a bit awkward, so sometimes I'll cuff them once. For reference, I'm 5'3" 135 ish pounds with an athletic build.

    Lightweight and ridiculously comfortable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Size Bought: 6

I gave to my lady half as a gift and here's what she had to say - "These shorts are amazing! Great for hiking, climbing, a light bike ride, and pretty much anything you want. The are stretchy but not so much that it takes away from the casual style. I saw they ran small and am usually size 4-6 so i bought the 8's. They were too big but they were so comfortable I kept them to send to my mom who is a size bigger. Bought the smaller size and they are as good as expected. Would love these in all the colors."

    Nice lightweight adventure shorts

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 0

    Pros
The lightweight material is perfect for hot weather adventures. They are extremely comfortable to hike in because they are so light and breathable. They are are a perfect length for someone who doesn't want a super long short but still wants some modesty while climbing.

    Cons
The back pockets are frustratingly small and difficult to take things in and out of. The little tie on the inside of the shorts, meant to tighten the shorts(I assume), is essentially useless. The button sticks and it feels like I could rip it off if I wasn't being careful. These aren't doing your booty any favors, the pockets and design of the back make your but look small and frumpy.

    Overall
I like these shorts for adventure but not the best for attracting a mate.

    My favorite pair of shorts!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 6

These are the best shorts I have ever owned! They fit amazingly well, the material is stretchy, soft, and not too thin. The length is perfect, long enough that my butt isn't hanging out but short enough to look cute. They dry fast and are the comfiest shorts I own. I am 5'6 and 130 lbs, with more of my weight in my lower half and the size 6 fits great. I could go up a size, but definitely not down as the shorts are pretty form fitting. I love these things!

    Love These Shorts

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 0 then a 2

I got these in grey and I absolutely love them! I am 5'4 and 110 lbs a size 0 to start out with and had to move to a size 2 and the size 2 fits perfect. I feel like I am either an XS or a S in Patagonia but have to try on the pants first before I buy them so I know if they run small or are true to size. These shorts I feel run a little small and are a little tight around the thighs but the next size bigger fit me perfectly. I wear these shorts hiking all of the time and I absolutely love them and recommend them!

Will likely buy another this week. My wife loves these things. She's been wearing them almost every day now. Great climbing/hiking shorts. They look great on her and are great quality. Highly recommend.

    Violet blue

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 10

Great color and large pockets. They are a little shorter then a 5 inch inseam, I would say closer to 3.5-4 inches.

I did buy my normal size but had to go up a size, the fabric does stretch but I really think these are just built a little slim.

    Comfortable!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Size 2

I was in desperate need of some outdoor shorts that would hold up to a variety of activities. The material is comfortable and stretchy! They are fitted but don't feel as though they restrict my movement at all. The length is perfect because they aren't booty shorts that will ride up with a harness or something similar. but if you wanted a little bit of shorter inseam the bottoms roll up and it looks pretty cute! The material allows for the shorts to dry really quickly if they get wet and it's also pretty durable! Happy with this purchase.

    Stretchy Material!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 6

These shorts do run a little small but the stretchy material makes up for that. The shorts are a perfect length as well. (not too long or short) also they are a quick drying material which makes it nice for any kind of adventure or just taking the dogs to the park!

    Stylish and functional

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 6

I had been looking for a good pair of hiking shorts for work (I'm an outdoor professional), but they were all too long. I decided to try these out, and they are great. They are the right length - long enough to cover everything but not so long that I look dorky. They are lightweight and comfortable. It almost feels like I'm not wearing anything. They also dry very quickly. The shorts are slightly stretchy which makes them good for climbing and squatting. Pockets are deep so they can hold quite a bit. I normally wear a size 4, but I purchased a 6 in these and they fit great. There is a draw string in the inside that can be used to tighten them if needed. I plan on purchasing a second pair.

    Great length

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 6

These shorts are made of a super lightweight and flexible material, making them very comfortable, especially for climbing. I love the length too! Not too long to be unflattering, but also long enough to sit comfortably under a harness and not ride up.

    Great length

Hey Jennifer! I do have smaller to average thighs and the 6 does have some room to spare for me, definitely not tight on the leg but not particularly lose either. The fabric is also pretty stretchy, so you may want to keep that in mind too. Just fyi if you are also a 27 waist, the 6 is ever so slightly loose on my waist. It is not to the point that I have to wear a belt, but do have to pull them up a little sometimes and am considering if I should have gotten a 4 instead.
    Hopefully that helps a little!

these shorts are fabulous. they look great, and perform better. cute enough to run around town, and ready for hiking/rafting/camping. Very comfortable, rapidly drying, stretchy fabric. Extremely comfortable. Typical with other patagonia pants, if you've got a round booty order at least 1 size up from your normal. These are 2 sizes bigger than any other item of clothing I own, and they fit perfectly.
