A bit heavy for my taste.

I tried them out just the same as the leather upper version (non AC), and unfortunately came to the same conclusion. I like the sole and the wraparound coverage. I like the the breathability, a bit more than the GT leather version. I even liked the style and design. Unfortunately they are a bit warmer than a trail runner and too heavy for me. Since I began running in the minimal shoe styles noraml trail hikers are just too heavy for me know. When I fast pack I usually wear a trail running shoe with a lot of cushion which lately has been the Brooks Cascadia. I do like the tread and the style as said above but I just think these a little heavy and outdated for the evolution of a lot of trail activities. If you are looking for a durable shoe with a ton of protection and added weight then this could work for you. I am a 10.5 and fit the 10.5 just perfect.
Unbelievably... It's all true!!!

Well, I was leary on buying the shoe. I liked the brand but getting it through the mail, well... I jumped in an ordered. The shoe came quickly and I checked it out. The only flaw was one loose eyelet. I can cope with that. Then I went hiking... and hiking... and hiking. I have been so busy hiking all over the NW that I have not had time to make a comment online. I really, really like these shoes. They may be my favorite shoe of all time. If I could figure out a way to wear them to work and church I would. That is my comment on these shoes. Comfortable, durable, they have a spring back when you walk that allows you to walk farther than you intended. They are good, and this is my shoe that I will continually order. Thanks backcountry!
Great Shoe

I wore these shoes every day for 21 days in all different terrain in Peru including jungle, cobblestone, mountains, snow, and general hiking. They dried quickly and held up to the elements well. My feet did not get sore or tired and they required minimal break in. Fit is true to size. The shoes look nearly new after my trip!

I purchased these shoes approximately one month ago. I wanted to ask if I am eligible for a credit (i.e my purchase price less the sale
price)? I would like to use the credit to purchase some more gear. Please advise...

Best bet will be to initiate a chat with a BC rep by using the link at the top of the page. They should be able to take care of you. Best of luck.

I really wanted to love these shoes. In fact, I loved them for about a year. Mainly casual hiking, never backpacked in them, despite my doing a lot of backpacking... but I only wear mid or high boots for support while backpacking.
After getting these soaking wet on a couple occasions the durability bottomed out. Several portions of the nubs that are glued to the sole began to fall off. I stepped in a few dog bombs one day, turned the shoes over the start scraping them clean, and lo and behold several of the nubby cleat like things had fallen off long before.
If Patagonia addresses the sole durability issues with Vibram I'd buy several pairs of these. I loved them while they lasted.

After wearing the Drifter for a week, I headed for CA and did a 30 mile backpacking trip and another 70 miles of day hikes in the Sierra Nevadas. Not a single complain. What a great shoe!

I've been using Vasque for years, thinking that their fit was the best for my (narrow) feet. Sadly, on hikes longer than 5 miles I would always get sore spots which would eventually turn into blisters as the day went on. That, along with the occasional black toe nail, led me to believe that maybe those Vasques were not the ideal shoe for me. I bought these due to the generally rave reviews I had been reading, and after several summits I can safely say that all of those reviews were absolutely correct. These boots have absolutely NO break-in period. I did two 4000 foot ascents in 2 weeks and my feet felt relatively unfazed. Additionally, the grip is nothing short of spectacular. I never felt unsure of my step in these and would recommend them to anyone looking for a good, low-top boot.
The best...

I've owned a few different pairs of approach/trail shoes (including merrel & keen) but none of the others came close to these. Very comfortable, well ventilated and so far, tough as nails. I agree with the other reviewers that the sizing is perhaps a little larger than other brands... but I still fit the 12.
Awesome, but runs large.

Just spent 10 days hiking the canyons and plateaus of the Colorado Plateau in these. Here are a couple of points to note:
1. The size is big. I typically wear a size 10 running shoe, but needed to go with a 9.5 in this shoe. The 10 was just too big and my feet slid all over the place. (Got a pair for my wife as well, and had to return and move down 1/2 size.) Order down 1/2 size when ordering online, and you probably won't need to exchange/return. I wear different brands of merino wool socks, which are heavier than cotton, but not as bulky as the heavy ones I wear with my Vasque's when carrying heavier loads.
2. As noted by other reviewers, the first couple days were slightly slick, but wore in nicely. No real ankle support - so if you need or are used to ankle support, might not be the shoe for you.
3. Stepped in a few mud holes (they don't grip well on wet, algae covered rock), and they rinsed out/cleaned up nicely.
4. They breath, but not as much as you would think. My socks are damp after wearing, even in Utah! But, not enough to cause friction blisters.
Short review, but in conclusion I think that they are going to be the choice when hiking Rim-to-Rim later this fall, getting picked over the Vasque's, due to the lighter weight and overall sturdiness. Great shoe and worth the 5 stars after the initial wearing. If needed, I'll amend the review after a couple of months.
Not Up To Patagonia High Standards

Sorry to say, if you expect Patagonia's high standards of quality and durability you won't find it in this shoe. I've had mine less than a year and the soles are already wearing thin and falling apart. The rubber bumpers began peeling off soon after purchasing and the footbed's have always drifted. I'm used to Patagonia gear that simply does not wear out under normal usage. These shoes are several notches below what you'd expect from Patagonia (oh well, they look nice).
Great gear!

I've been wearing these for 5 weeks now with the OEM insoles and they are great. The break in period was minimal, the support is excellent, and they look great. I wear them daily for work and spend countless hours on my feet. My feet are never sore,or tired after work and the grip on them is amazing. I can see how they could possibly hold a bit of mud, but the lugs in the sole seem like they would clean out nicely on their own. I own several pairs of Merrells, Keens, and Vasque footwear and these are one of my favorites.

Wow! That's my first reaction with these shoes. Right out the box they have a great feel. I'll start with the tread, very aggressive and Vibram to boot. The toe box is very roomy and surrounded with rubber, the heel also is covered in rubber. should be able to take a beating. The fit is wonderful. Toe box is roomy, if your feet are narrow these might not be for you. Once laced up nice and tight my heel was secure and my foot will not move all the while giving the piggies plenty of breathing room. That room should also help on the decent from jamming the toes. I changed out the laces for thicker 45".I planned to do the Lemon Squeeze on Thursday, I think these are gonna rock. A++++ shoe.

Great shoes!! I wear this style of shoe for work in the summer. I have tried lots of other brands, (Keen,Merrel,Saloman,Nike,Vasque) over the years, and these are the best so far. I will order a spare pair this fall to be ready when this pair wears out, but after 5 weeks of daily wear, they are still solid. Soles were a little slick on roofs and wall plates the first day, but are great now. The arch support is awsome, feels like a hiking boot, wears like a trail runner.
Great shoe
