I had an old lined beanie by Patagonia which I wore in all occasions. It did not matter if I was in the backcountry, or just walking around in the city. Before my wife and I went to New York I decided to retire my old one and buy a new one, but that was a mistake. I have a fairly small head and this beanie is still too shallow. I had to constantly keep pulling the beanie down to cover my ears, and that was still never a permeant fix. If you think you have normal to large head, then I would not buy this beanie.

I had a lined Patagonia beanie with a ball on it for nearly 7 years. I recently lost it on a backcountry ski day. I was torn up about it, but figured I could buy this one as a replacement and it would fit the same, minus the awesome hanging ball. It turns out this one is not lined around the ears, that's not a huge deal though. The problem is that it is considerably shallower than the last. It rides up immediately and doesn't cover the bottom half of my ears. I don't have a big head either, I wear a size medium helmet. I returned the beanie and got this one that fits much better: http://www.backcountry.com/patagonia-beanie-hat

**If anyone finds & returns my orange Patagonia beanie with ball attached on the skin track to Red Baldy in Little Cottonwood Canyon, I'll buy you a six-pack.

Love Patagonia stuff, but the sizing on headwear is quite inconsistent. I have a Beanie and fits fine, but this Flippin' Beanie is way too small. Handed it off to my girlfriend and she likes it.

This is a great simple beanie that works great on the mountain, and looks great off too. I got the lone pine and love the pattern.

The knitted material is soft and slightly stretchy to allow for a comfortable fit, and is tightly enough knitted to block all but the strongest coldest wind from reaching you.

Be warned though, this is a warm hat! I have found it to be to warm for high output activities like winter hiking unless it's absolutely frigid out. Better for around camp, walking to class, or a night on the town.

If you have a small head then you would be happy with the hat- nice patterns, colors and materials . It is just so small! Too bad, the hat went back.

Is the Patagonia Flippin Beanie lined?

No, it has the same knit material on the interior, with different graphics (it's reversible, hence the "Flippin'"). This is primarily a fashion item, but that is not to say that is no good.. it's two layers of knit nylon/wool, so it is plenty warm.
You may want to take a look at the Patagonia "Lined Beanie." It is pretty much the same hat with a 5.2oz polyester fleece lining. Toasty. Hope that helps!

Does anyone know the width/length of this...

Does anyone know the width/length of this beanie when laid out flat?

Yes, when laid flat, this hat is about 11" x 8"
I've got a fairly large noggin, and it reaches well below my earlobes. Good thing to note is that it is a little stretchy, too.
Hope that helps, and enjoy!

I picked up the Lone Pine/Forest last fall and it quickly became my most worn hat. It's got a great thickness to it that keeps your head nice & warm. I've received a lot of compliments on this hat too. I've washed it a few times and I was stoked that the colours have stayed nice and bright. Great rugged hat that looks good inside or out.
