Wow, a fleece that works
I haven't had this jacket for very long, but I've already come to appreciate it as being what I hoped it would be. Some pieces of gear you get a sense about, even with minimal testing, and this is one of them. It has a regular, true-to-size fit. Feels like soft fleece on the inside and has a courser wool-like feel on the outside. Even with 28% Merino wool, it performs like it's all wool, making it warm, even when wet. The fabric is what I would probably describe as around a typical 200wt fleece, but it's done a better than expected job of giving me protection in the wind, most likely because of the blend, and the weight/warmth ratio is entirely doable. Cold wash, no dryer or hot sun, just line-dry or lay it down flat. Collar rides perfectly on the neck, zippers are solid and smooth to operate with one hand. The chest pocket is deep and roomy, going well over to your side and below the arm-pit, big enough for gloves and a hat. I can see this jacket being great alone, under a shell, or as a mid-layer. I fully intend to use the hell out of it, and if first impressions hold up, it's going to be a real go-to piece for me.

With the 28% wool blend, can I run this through the washer and dryer and/or dry it in the sun, or do the normal rules for straight wool still apply? Thanks.
hmm that's a good question Phil. Unfortunately I don't have one on hand to check the care tag. I would lean towards not drying it, I might be a little over cautious w my jackets though.
Thanks Ty, I appreciate you checking into it.
It's already on its way. I'll make do.

Will this item maintain warmth if it gets wet? I have tons of down, but not much else, so I'm in the market for some good, wet weather insulation.
The Finmark would actually do pretty well when wet. Since it's a combo of wool and poly it might absorb a little water, but the wool will still keep you warm when it's wet. It's a super warm piece, and great for cold weather.
That's what I figured, but I needed some confirmation! Thanks a lot!
Thanks to both you guys for bringing this piece to my attention. I'm on it!
I wear a medium in almost everything Patagonia makes. So I ordered this in medium. Unfortunately it's a little too slim for me. I'm 6'1", 165lbs, broad shoulders and long arms. This fits tight in the shoulders and the sleeve length is on the shorter side. The body fits okay. The quality is fine.
