Description

Stay warm uptown or downtown.

You might be following your new-found fascination with American history or you might be exploring the even more historical avenues across the pond. It's a good thing the Patagonia Women's Downtown Loft Park covers you from head to knee with 600-fill Traceable Down warmth. This long-limbed parka resists unwelcome entreaties by chilly winds and rude flurries. Horizontal baffles keep the ethically-sourced down in place and highlight your hard-earned figure. With the hood up and the shawl collar fully zipped, only your nose and forehead might see the light of day. Two generous hand pockets let you stow your mini tablet and palm-sized camera while leaving ample room for your paws. Urban lines leave you feeling lady-lake even in the dead of winter (or the middle of the third quarter in December) in a down parka. Whether you're exploring the origins of various communities or investigating the insider track of your city, stay warm while winding through the streets in this sleek, knee-kissing down-filled parka.

Zipper sticks

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 6"
    Weight: 120 lbs
    Size Purchased: xs

The coat is fine--there's nothing particularly special about it, but it seems like it would keep you warm. I returned it, however, because the zipper kept jamming around the collar area when I tried it on. Both times I zipped it all the way up the zipper got stuck. Once I had to slip the coat off without unzipping it (because I couldn't). Definitely less than ideal. I don't recommend this coat.

Funny fit but very warm

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I bought this coat last winter during the "polar vortex" complete with several days of below zero temps and/or windchills. As I am from the warmer climes, I wasn't sure what to expect as my own freezer does not reach such temps. This coat is so warm it's not even funny. I had winter boots that came up to my knees, my ski mittens and a warm hat and I was quite toasty even when outside for more than 5-7 minutes at a time.

Negatives for me are: hood does not tighten and is quite large but I have big curly hair so this has been not too much of a problem for me. When I get hit with a big gust of wind, the hood does often threaten to blow off. But I also generally wear a kind of large rasta type hat to cover my crowning glory and the hood fits perfectly well for me after the addition. Not everyone has such a blessing (or curse) so it may not work for them. Like the other reviewer, the fit is a bit snug but truly I really don't care that much as I am so warm. For me, despite the negatives, this coat was a game changer for me living in the north.

Very Disappointed

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I am a size Medium in mostly all brands of clothing. As I never got to wear the jacket out I will not be able to comment on the warmth
#no way to cinch the hood to your face
#no way to hold the hood in place when the wind blows
#hood is way too large and trust me you will get uncomfortable during windy days
#the chest and tummy part had very weird fit. Even though the jacket it self was a good fit but from outside it made me look like.... ugh I can't even explain the weird fit. I think they needed to give more space or some style to the chest area. When I wore it my friends agreed it looked too tight across the chest and tummy area.
#not snug in the bottom. Hips below was nice and long as I wanted...but the space was huge...when the wind blows...you'd want that jacket to hug the hips and thighs to give warmth and not have wind seeping in.

Hope it helps. The color is lovely though.

Will have to return.

Patagonia Downtown Loft Parka

  • Fit: True to size

This is a fabulous coat! I am 5'8", 150 lb. size 12 clothing. I purchased this coat in XL. I tried on every single coat at Macy's. None looked or fit as well as THIS coat. It feels luxurious, the length is fabulous on my arms, and I love the fact that the hem is not straight across and it is very flattering to my figure which I have no 'waist' it makes me appear that I do.
It is longer in the back; same on the sleeves (longer on the outside towards my outer hand) and the length is actually long enough to pass my wrist bone. The two side zipped pockets are slim and flattering. I am only sad that I could not get this in beige or bronze and had to choose another dark, dingy-colored coat to my collection.

What is the center back length of a medium?

Warmth wise - how is this compared to the Canada Goose hooded camp down parka? Tx

Responded on

Again, this one has 600 fill down and the CD Camp Down hooded jacket is 750 fill. So, the Canada Goose jacket is going to have better insulating power!

That's true, but I'm asking because the warmth of a down jacket depends not only on the fill power, but also on the quantity of fill.

Good call, Jessica! In this case, I'd still choose the Canada Goose Camp down for the wind resistance and higher fill down!
