- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
I just received this jacket, and I love it, I am 5ft, and 135, with a large bust, and I got a large,I probably could have gotten a medium, but I have room for a thick sweater this way. The jacket is super warm, and the fabric is beautiful, with an almost washed silk feel. I also think it is very flattering, especially if you are curvy.
Warm and stylish
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share
- Fit: True to size
My sister might be cold-blooded, given how she can't ever seem to be warm. And she's concerned about style. This jacket is lightweight, warm (though she's not had it long enough to determine if it's sufficient for Chicago in January), and sports an adorable cut. She likes it, but she's not ready yet to give it 5 stars -- although the past weekend it was in the teens, and she was snug as a bug.
I LOVE this coat! It's very warm without being big and bulky. The hood is nice because it's there if you need it but not in your way if your not using it. The fitted shape is especially great for women.
just did not work for me. looks great on someone else I saw on a video
I want to order this jacket to wear skiing?...
I want to order this jacket to wear skiing? I'm a little concerned about the waterproof issue. Does anybody wear their parka skiing?
The Downtown Loft Jacket would do ok as a ski jacket for sure. It's DWR coated so it will handle light rain, and most snow pretty well. If you live somewhere with wetter snow you might want to look for a fully waterproof option
I would not recommend this parka for skiing. I like a tighter fit on the bottom of my ski coats so the powder doesn't get in, this one is loose at the bottom. Maybe on a fair weather day.
Got this jacket as an early b-day present for my last trip. Just as you'd expect from Patagonia this jacket is warm, light, and beautiful! My personal favorite part is the hood!
So far, so good!
Patagonia Downtown Loft
Super warm and cute fit!
I LOVE this jacket! I have been eyeing down jackets for a while now, and I'm glad I waited until I found this one. I like that the pockets zip especially since I have lost things before falling out of jacket pockets. It's SUPER warm...some days I wish there were pit zips. I usually just unzip it a bit in the front. I have yet to figure out how the "shawl collar" stays in place. I roll up the hood and it immediately unfurls. Obviously I'm missing something since everyone else seems to use it as a collar when they want, but I don't mind it as is. Highly recommend. Good for city streets and up in the mountains.
I ordered this jacket after researching for days online. I am moving from Florida to North Dakota. I am 5'5.5" and 113 lbs. I ordered a size S and it fits perfectly and is super cute on! It's not as bulky as I expected it to be can easily be packed in a suitcase. I haven't worn it in the cold yet, but I can say that it's warm. I was looking for something that was practical and still cute, this is it!!!
Nice jacket, just not right for me
- Gender: Female
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
The overall quality of this jacket is good. I liked the feel of the fabric, and the weight. I wasn't crazy about the hood. It didn't lay right when not in use. You can roll it into a shawl collar, but it wasn't a look I cared for on me. The sleeves were a little long, but that often happens. If you have a hard time finding long enough sleeves, this one would likely work for you. Backcountry is second to none in customer service. Because they are so good to deal with, I always shop here first. Returns and exchanges are handled promptly and without complaint. I highly recommend Backcountry!
Any estimates as to a waterproof/breathable...
Any estimates as to a waterproof/breathable rating? How tough wearing is the outside shell polyester?
The Downtown Loft Jacket is not waterproof - it's got a great DWR coating on the outer shell, so it does well shedding snow and light rain, but you wouldn't want to be out in it in a full on down pour. No down jacket is really designed to breath well. Some of the lighter weight jackets might, but the Downtown Loft here is designed to be super warm and keep you cozy. And the outer shell is actually pretty tough. My wife has the longer version and has snagged it pretty good a few times and she hasn't ripped it yet. hope that all helps!
How low temp will this jacket keep me...
How low temp will this jacket keep me warm?
That question has so many variables but I think you would be comfortable down to 10-15 F.
I have had this jacket for almost a year now and it's managed to keep me from freezing in Winnipeg's crazy -35/-40C weather (when properly layered , of course).
Marshmallows can be sexy too!
I finally said goodbye to my loyal puffy just before Christmas, and I was sure I wouldn't find anything up to par; boy, was I wrong. I was looking for something super duper warm, durable - because I snuggle like a boss after motorcycle rides and long freezing climbing days - and if it wasn't too much to ask, I'd like to look good at the same time.
Well, I thought all was lost until I found this coat. First off, I have faith in its durability although I received this just after NYE 2011. The satin finish on the outside of the coat is smooth, resistant to snagging, and also fends off dampness on drizzly mornings (not waterproof though!). All zippers are YKK and zip/unzip smoothly, and the snaps, albeit plastic, feel solid.
Now, this is my favorite perk of this jacket: it is WARM as can be (read: I could probably cook breakfast in my armpit while wearing this coat). Honestly, If you're looking for a light, pretty, fluffy coat to wear for errands and to look cool, this is NOT the jacket for you. Although it is marketed as more of an urban jacket rather than a technical insulating layer, its 800 fill down does its job beautifully. Contrary to other reviews, the hood is RAD and fits over climbing helmets! (It also fits over a normal, non-helmeted human head too, it just takes some finagling - the snaps near your neck definitely are key to helping the hood stay up). Also, this jacket is longer than other puffys - I am 5'5, 125lbs with a long torso, and the small ends at the tops of my thighs.
Lastly, this jacket is ridiculously good looking on. The baffling on the torso (front and back) is seamed to follow and accentuate a women's curvature, and does a great job at that, creating a more streamlined and slender silhouette than is usually seen with insulated jackets. I'm pretty strong for my size, and I usually feel like a stocky fat marshmallow in down coats, but trust me - This coat looks damn sexy on!
Perfect winter jacket
I love this jacket - it's perfect for the mid-Atlantic winter. The fit is tailored but I can still wear layers underneath it. All around, I'm really satisfied. And, as always, Backcountry.com is hands down the best place to buy gear from. Their customer service is awesome and everything always arrives quickly.

I am 5' 6", 140 lbs, fairly trim build, live on the Canadian Prairies, so we get maybe 10 days of -35C with wind in January. What size would be best in this jacket? It should not be too loose because that is how you lose heat. I really like the profile of this jacket and the density.
You best bet will probably be to compare your measurements with the sizing chart below the price. They are usually pretty accurate.
you should go to Patagonia.com they have live chat with the people who know exatly how to size you in their garments.

Can I wear this playing in the snow with my kids?
The shell is water resistant, so you will probably be okay using this to play in the snow as long as it's not for a super extended period of time. I probably wouldn't use it for days in which it is sure to get super wet.
Does this jacket have a hood? I can't tell...
Does this jacket have a hood? I can't tell if that is a hood or a high collar shown in the back view.
I found the answer on the right sde of the screen. Thanks anyway.
It's got a hood that if you fold the elastic part under turns into an awesome shawl collar.

Are there any differences between this and last year's model - e.g. sizing/length, materials, or any other features ?
Hi there, thanks for the question. There haven't been any changes to the Downtown Loft Jacket featured here. Same fit and materials, just a few new colors added.
Very stylish jacket and also really warm. Has a feminine cut so is flattering. I use it in Utah winters with no complaints.

did this ever come in a small???? I can't find a small available anywhere in any color
It did indeed, unfortunately we are completely sold out of this jacket. I suggest calling Patagonia directly to see where you can get one.
It most certainly does, I am getting mine in an XS.
