This is a great jacket for the money.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

This is a great jacket for the money and the Tobago Blue is beautiful. Beware, if you are a petite gal the sleeves are way too long. Sadly I had to return the jacket.

Short and sweet

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Love this jacket. Very easy to wear things over if extra chilly. Both my boyfriend and I have purchased this jacket. The only thing I am not too found of is the length. It comes to my hip line, but I would rather have it a little longer like my other jackets. Otherwise, the color is extremely bright just like the picture depicts and it keeps me very warm throughout the winter months!

See-through white fabric

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

I was excited to find a light weight, light colored down jacket to take on a summer vacation to the west coast. The XS jacket fit great but the white fabric looked all blotchy because the down feathers could be seen through the light colored material. Sadly I decided it was best to return it and look for a light colored fleece jacket instead. I have to give this jacket 2 stars for the thin white fabric .

Too short

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

I am 5 7 and 135. I have a long torso and am pretty skinny. I ordered a Small and it was just too short, it was about an inch or two below my belly button and could stuff a pillow between the empty space between my stomach and the jacket, if I had got a medium it may have been long enough but I would have been swimming in it. I usually wear smalls with no trouble at all., Disappointed cause I really liked the color and it was very light/warm. Giving it 4 stars if it would have fit.

Sorry it didn't work for you. Keep an eye out on Backcountry for a newly redesigned Down Sweater that should be available shortly on the site. It's got an updated fit w more length in the body!

short in length

I purchased the S (my usual size - 5'3" and 125 lbs) and it was too short in length. It is probably notable to mention that I do not have a longer than usual torso or anything, either. The sleeves and the bust fit well, nice and fitted, but definitely not enough room to comfortably fit a sweatshirt underneath. I am going to return the S in hopes that a M will do the job, lengthwise, and that it isn't too much of a potato sack in the sleeves and bust. Otherwise it seems like a great jacket!

Stephanie, Patagonia has redesigned the Down Sweater for this upcoming Fall season and updated the fit to have more length in the body. Might be worth a shot. The new version should be live on Backcountry very shortly.

Perfectly Pink Patagonia

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

I wear this jacket everywhere I go. In fact, on our honeymoon to the Grand Canyon, Durango, and Big Bend I wore it non-stop. This down jacket isn't as warm as I thought it would be, but that means I can wear it 3 out of the 4 seasons. Plus the pink color gets a lot of compliments.

perfect go-to jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Wore it in Yellowstone and the Tetons in variable temps/weather. Worked just by itself and with layers under and over it. Also helped against mega winds. I'm 5' 0" about 120 lbs. and the small fit well. XS looked better (less boxy) but didn't give me any room for layers or to move freely. Tried both white and tobago blue. The feathers showed through in the white. Kept the blue. It's beautiful. And it rolls up teeny tiny. I've hunted for the right jacket for several seasons. Bought. Returned. Bought. Returned. This is a keeper!

I wanted this Down Sweater for so long. I checked in all the outdoor stores to compare the different brands. I went on line to research colors, price and reviews. I knew this was exactly the one I wanted and I got exactly the color I wanted - dark blue. It arrived and fit perfectly.

No Sweat

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love my Patagonia Down Jacket! I've had it for 4 years and still use it a lot. The interior pocket stretches to turn the whole jacket into a pouch with a loop for a biner which I usually leave attached inside the pocket even when I'm wearing it. When it's packed into the pouch it works perfectly as a pillow for backcountry camping - a great multi-use piece for UL camping. My friends with other brands of down jackets were jealous of that party-trick! This is a great active cold weather piece because I never find myself sweaty in it like I do with synthetic mid-layers. I also use it under a rain jacket for an even warmer combo. I wouldn't call this jacket very fashionable - it is rather boxy - but that's not really the point - this is an extremely functional piece for chilly trips where comfort and weight/space in your bag are of the utmost importance. I've also used this as my primary sweater when ultralight travelling. When you wash it be sure to dry it on low with tennis balls as they recommend - this gets the down back up to it's original fluffiness. I wouldn't recommend this for cold water paddling as down is not warm when wet. I do, however, put this in my dry bag during summer paddling trips to put on at the campsite when the temp drops at night. Love it!

Tall People Rejoice!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I bought this jacket in the fall and can honestly say that I am a huge fan! Talk about lightweight warmth! It's amazing. The thing that I love most is how long the sleeves are. I am 6'0 and always have trouble with jackets running short in the sleeves. Well my fellow tall friends, this is NOT a problem . The sleeves are plenty long and so is the torso. I ordered a L and it fits great. A little baggy in the torso but not too much. I can't wait to keep using this jacket once the subzero temperatures clear up!

Love

This Jacket fits true to size- it is super comfy and warm enough to wear in very cold upper Michigan weather- I have tried all the brands and I must say I thought the north face was the best until I got this jacket- I love it so much I bought in 3 colors in 3 months! My favorite hockey mom go to jacket for rink wear- it is not bulky - it is perfect!! I can't say enough positive things about this patagonia jacket- I am in LOVE!!!!!!!

Great company, good jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

Size ref: I'm 5' 4.75", ~33AA bust, 110 lbs., and a petite frame but fairly broad shoulders; I received the XS and would go a little smaller if an XXS existed.

The jacket is super lightweight, boasts a beautifully minimal look in nice colors (especially the contrast zippers on certain models), and functions well. However, I've noticed two things I would change about the jacket (the latter being a concern with Patagonia products generally). Note that I'll be writing about the model in Curacao/Blue Butterfly; I'm not sure if others have the same components.

First, I have one minor complaint about the lower cinch cord placement. If you want to keep the drafts out from coming up under your jacket, you can easily locate and pull the cinch cord on the right side. However, this makes the bottom bunched up asymmetrically--you must shift around the fabric at the bottom in order to make the cinching effect more even (and I've never spent enough time to make it perfectly even; it would take too long). I think the design would have been better with two cinch cords, one on each side of the jacket.

Secondly, Patagonia simply does not fit me all that well. Their jackets for women have a very boxy American fit (as opposed to a slimmer European fit). This jacket (and some of their other jackets) does (do) not follow the contours of my waist (~25) and the sleeves are quite large, especially on the biceps (and I have some thicker arms from climbing). The fit could be a little slimmer, especially seeing as I got this for a mid-layer for skiing (and a casual jacket, too).

Other than that, this jacket rocks. It's super warm, I hate taking it off, and it's quite pretty. The neck also fits wonderfully--never too tight enough to feel like it's constricting your air pipes.

Great X-Mas Present

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

Curacao/Blue Butterfly LX made a great gift for my mother on x-mas. She loves how warm it keeps you, as well as how the wind doesnt cut through it. We had to return the large, that did fit her in the shoulders, but she couldnt zip up because its a slimmer fitting jacket.

Awesome jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I have a women's medium in Nickel. Love the color and the fit is perfect. I'm smaller on top than bottom (medium top, large bottom) and originally got a large to ensure it would fit around my hips, but returned it for the medium which is perfect. The down is plenty warm, the fit is flattering, not puffy. I have worn it with layers underneath at 25 degrees, but it's perfect over just a shirt at closer to 40. Have had the jacket for a little over a month now, am very happy with the purchase.

I just love this jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I just got this jacket at Christmas, but I already love it. It's exactly what I wanted and will be perfect for its intended purpose. It's light as a feather but still warm. I bought it to wear it when training my dogs in an unheated barn in Canada, but I wore it snowshoeing yesterday in a windchill of -31C, and I was toasty warm. Just the perfect layer for outdoor activities. A shell might be a nice addition on really windy days. It's not long, but it comes down low enough to cover the tops of my pants, which is what I wanted (I'm 5'2" and wear a small).

Great looking jacket and she looks like a very happy camper!
Pic is dated 12/16...did someone open their Christmas present early? Ha!
Sounds like some are saying this jacket runs small.
What size is your wife and which size did she go with?
Thanks.
