When the sun sets on your campsite, pull on the Patagonia Women’s Down Sweater Jacket and relish in all its warmth thanks to its 900-fill power European down insulation. This special edition, ultra-lightweight sweater easily compresses into the interior chest pocket, which is key when you have limited storage camping or backcountry skiing. If a light storm moves through, the jacket’s Deluge DWR coating makes the raindrops or flurries run for cover, and this beauty of a coat is ideal for layering underneath your shell if the storm gets really serious.

Bottom Line: It doesn’t get much better than this.

Ultra Lightweight

I tried one of these on last night and was very impressed with it. Some people do not like the fog color but it looks great in person. I have a couple of the "regular" Patagonia down sweaters and would like to have had this one but couldn't justify the extra money for it. I am still giving it some thought because it is such a sweet jacket.

Edit on 1/21/11

A local retailer has this for 30% off today so my wife and I both bought one and we couldn't pass it up for the price. I wanted the Fog color and they only had one XL left and my wife wanted the Medium and they only had one of those left so we took them home. It really is a great jacket and so very lightweight.

I wouldn't buy one with a hood because I want to put a technical shell over it and the hood gets in the way. I always have a hat and put up the hood on my tech jacket.

good point, hoods are definitely nice to have when it gets nasty out. One of the best features of the Down Sweater here without a hood though is how easily it layers under a shell for super cold temps. The Down Sweater is available hooded as well...

The problem with this jacket is not that it is boxy, rather, it doesn't have a hood. If you are going to pay this amount of money and want a serious backcountry down jacket with 850-900 fill it should come with a hood. Check out Western Mountaineering Flash or XR Flash jackets. Some women place a priority on style and want a fitted garment. I like boxy because I want the down jacket to be long and cover my body since it is the most important survival clothing gear when you are out in the backcountry, so I always size up to a large to get plenty of coverage!

Special Edition Down Sweater

I cannot say enough good things about this jacket! I freakin' love it! It is so lightweight, the color is amazing, it's a perfect layering piece, I've gotten so many compliments on it already...should I keep going? It's packable, it's stylish, and it is made by my favorite brand! The nylon is a little bit see through, so you will be able to see the feathers, not that it's a bad thing or means it's poor quality, but just wanted to give everyone a heads up on that. I'm 5'6" and around 133lbs, pretty athletic build and the medium fits me well (i.e., room to layer underneath), but I probably could have gotten away with a small, especially if I was planning on layering this under a shell. This was produced in limited quantities this fall, so don't even think twice about it, just buy it!

Poor Fit. Sent Back.

While I love Patagonia, I hate this jacket. It's so boxy and has a crappy cut just like the regular down sweater. If you want to look like anything but a box with big arms don't get this. I liked the weight and the color but as a woman, and an outdoor woman at that, I won't buy anything that isn't functional AND attractive. Overall, Ick. Even the MEN in my life said it looked terrible! Thank goodness for returns!
