Description

The definition of ‘warm and light.’

From late-fall belays at the crags to deep, powder-filled winter days, the ultralight warmth of the Patagonia Women’s Down Sweater Hooded Jacket is a welcome addition. The Down Sweater’s baffled 800-fill goose down and windproof, recycled polyester shell fabric make it an obvious choice for any outing where weight and warmth are equally important. When it’s time to climb, hike, or go inside, the Down Sweater stuffs into its interior pocket for easy stowing in your pack.

It's warm and cozy like all the other reviews are saying, however mine has lost tons of feathers since I bought it. My boyfriend has the men's version and it's the same story for his. If you're looking for a good down jacket, I'd recommend the North Face Thunder Down Jacket (http://www.backcountry.com/the-north-face-thunder-down-jacket-womens).

Year round piece.
I never put this jacket away. In the summer I take it camping and when i go climbing, spring when it gets chilly at night it keeps me warm, fall and winter, I rarely take it off.....sometimes I wear it to bed!

does anyone have the white birch jacket?...

I absolutely love this jacket. I am 5'9 and normally wear medium jackets. I bought this in medium and it fits great. I wish it was a little longer in the torso but its not a deal breaker. Wear it by itself or under a shell and you'll stay warm for sure. I also bought the Patagonia R1 hooded fleece to go underneath it and the two together are amazing.

I love, love, love this jacket! It fits great, great warmth/weight ratio, and is really compressible. I'm 5'9" an d often have a hard time with torso/sleeve length, this jacket fits perfectly for layering. The medium is a bit big, but I can add a few layers under it and a hard shell over it and it doesn't feel bulky. The hood definitely adds a lot of warmth that I don't get with another down jacket I have without the hood. I find myself wearing it to work and out just as much as taking it on adventures. Definitely recommend it!

I have worn this jacket nonstop for 2 winters now and absolutely love it. The hood is great, it is super lightweight (no problem taking this on a back country trip), good for both cold and warmer temps I have never really gotten too warm in it. Only one complaint, the material is rather thin (I've poked a few small holes in it already). To avoid this and keep things a little more waterproof and wind resistant I usually throw a shell over it, especially when tromping through the woods.

Sizing is rather accurate but the sleeves do run a little long!

I absolutely loved this jacket for the 2 1/2 years that I owned it. I travelled to South America with it, ice climbed in it, rock climbed in it... you name it. It is not quite warm enough for cold AK days, but works well as a layer. The material did not stand up to the granite in Joshua Tree, but there is nothing that a patch can't fix. My only problem with the jacket is that the zipper failed before the material did. For a $250 jacket, I would expect a more durable zipper.

This has become my favorite go to jacket. I love everything about it! The hood is great, the length is perfect and covers my bottom and to top it all off it is very attractive on.

I love this jacket so much, I decided to get another one this winter. Having worn my first one nearly every day for the last year (even in the summer, I put it on when I first get out of bed) although not showing any signs of wear, I decided to get a backup :) I have one without a hood as well, but have only worn it a handful of times. I prefer the hooded version.

I do not know what size to get: I am 5'2" tall and weigh 122 pounds and I usually wear size 4; I would get a S, but reading comment that this jacket runs a bit on the bigger side, I am now thinking I should get an XS. Any advice?

XS would be a more trim fit, and a Small would be a little looser, longer in the body, and maybe give you room to layer underneath. My wife is similar size to you, and she prefers the XS. hope that helps!

Unfortunately, you don't get much length through the torso going from an XS to a S in this item :( Just gets wider. Patagonia seems to be running increasingly wider these last couple years though their sizing is still all over the place :( If you are a 32B go with the XS; closer to a 34C go with the S. It is trim but not fitted. (The Mountain Hardwear take on this is VERY fitted and runs small!)

Backcountry says the Patagonia Down sweater is warmer, but weighs more than the ultralight. Is the Ultralight jacket (womens) longer than the down sweater??

Mary,
The Down Sweater here is warmer than the Ultralight Down Sweater. The Ultralight is a tad longer in the body, but no enough that it would make a big difference in the weight of the garment.

I found the Down Sweater to be warmer than the Ultralight. I'm not sure, but I think it's because the Down Sweater fabric is more windproof and it has a higher chin to block out the wind. According to the Patagonia rep, the Down Sweater has 85g of down and the Ultralight 80g, so in theory, it should be pretty comparable. But standing outside in each, the Down Sweater was definitely warmer.

Also, the Ultralight is about 1-2 inches longer than the Down Sweater and is a little more fitted. I like the length and looks of the Ultralight better, but unfortunately, the Down Sweater is warmer.

The down sweater has far more loft...poofiness....air. It is warmer!

I bought this one for my mother and she absolutely adores it. Hence, I'm not saying that it is an old person type of jacket, rather that has the quality and appeal that can be enjoyed by anyone. I have the non-hooded version myself and it is my go-to piece.

Great jacket. I find myself wearing it even when it probably isn't necessary.
I was worried that the small might be too little to fit layers under, but I have more than enough room. Seems to run on the bigger side. I am 5'6" and 140.

I got this down sweater as a gift for Christmas, and I have worn it everyday since. It's light enough that you won't overheat, yet warm enough to take off the chill. The hood is fantastic. I wear it skiing, running (I'm a Wasatch Speed Goat Mountain Racing Team member), sitting on the couch, heck, I've even worn it to sleep in. This is a great, durable piece from Patagonia, and once you get it, you will wish you had bought two (so that you can wear one while the other is in the wash).

Had my Patagonia down hoodie for about a year and abolutely love it. Weighs almost nothing, packs down into its own pocket, warmer than it looks, has a hood to die for. I could go on and on...Its good until just above freezing. Below that you will feel a bit naked especially if you've got only a shirt underneath - especially if its spitting rain. I live in BC, Canada where down and the Coastal weather are not a match made in heaven. So watch the rain (even though its pretty water resistant) as its so light that a good dose of rain will render it useless quickly. The only "downside" is that it leaks a feather or 2 every time I use it. Hate to see that but it happens to almost every down jacket I've owned. Obviously the shell fabric could be thicker and more down-proof but then it would weigh more. Patagonia stuff is always a bit more than the competition but I've found that their stuff lasts forever which makes it all worth it.

I live in NYC and I've always been a fan of The North Face. I've been wearing them since I was 16 and I'm now 26. I'm a big fan of the Nuptuse jacket (I've owned 2) because of how warm it keeps you for such a lightweight jacket. I want to try a different company and heard about Patagonia. Would this or any other jacket be good as (or better that) The North Face Nuptuse jacket as far as weight and warmth?

The down sweaters are much less puffier than the Nuptse, so they are much thinner and lighter. Down Sweaters weigh 13.4 oz compared to the 25 oz of the Nuptse. This doesn't mean less warmth. The Down Sweater is 800 fill compared to the 700 in the Nuptse, so they would be comprable in warmth. The Nuptse may win out because it is thicker, but the Down Sweater cannot be beat for the warmth it holds in such a small, lightweight package.

Page says "starting at $137.50" and, sure enough, the Prickly Pear XL is that price. I select that option and it says that there are 168 in stock. I put it in my cart. Nope. Says it's out of stock. All the rest are full price. Ummm.... ?

I just bought a The North Face jacket on the department of goods site and wanted this sweater as a layer underneath. Bummer for me.

That is a bummer. I have had the same trouble. I think it just takes a little time for the servers to update, which is annoying, but understandable.

I believe the quantity shown on this page is what's available in all sizes, even if you select an option. The cart page will show you what's available in your size.
