Absolutely perfect! (NO zip fly!)
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I'm 5'5" and about 118 lbs. I have thin hips and legs, but some belly bulge (more on that in a second). I ordered a size 6 because Patagonia pants usually run a bit tight for my belly.
A little background first. I'm one of those women who gets progressively more bloated as the day goes on, to the point where I have to unbutton my pants after lunch (and wish I could unzip them all the way, but I'm at work, so...). That makes wearing dress pants very difficult, because they're typically stiff at the waist even if you unbutton them, and it puts a lot of stress on the zipper. So I've been searching for a clothing solution that doesn't involve wearing a dress every day.
And...I found it! These pants are perfect! Behind the drawstring is an expandable fly (contrary to the product description, there are no zippers, just a matching fold of fabric), so I can progressively loosen the drawstring throughout the day without damaging any zippers and the pants still look right because the waistband actually expands with the drawstring. The drawstring doesn't make that weird pleated look when it's tightened like so many drawstring pants do. The pants don't change their drape as I loosen the drawstring because they are cut precisely for that. AND, the fabric and pattern are nice enough that they totally pass as dress pants even though they are more like pajama pants, really.
Also. The fabric is so breathable that I feel like I forgot to wear pants. Between the comfortable waistband and the light fabric, it feels like I have nothing on. The fabric is so light that I will probably not wear these pants in the winter, but for now they couldn't be more perfect. In fact, if Patagonia were to make a heavier version of these pants for fall/winter, I would be so, so happy.
Whether or not you have an ever-expanding belly like me, I highly recommend these! They are the most comfortable pants I've ever owned!
