Whether you're hoofing it to the office or skipping out on your responsibilities for the day, the Patagonia Crosstown Backpack holds everything you need for the day. This large-sized commuter pack features a main compartment with a padded laptop sleeve (holds up to a 17-inch) and an office organizer compartment to hold documents and the day's paper. A fleece-lined top pocket protects sunglasses or your MP3 player, and a removable waist belt and stowable attachment straps keep the pack and your gear securely attached.

Is the bag waterproof?

it's not fully waterproof, but there's a DWR coating on it it protect from moisture and light rain. Wouldn't want it out in a downpour, but there's enough to give you a little protection

The vertical "patagonia" writing might be slightly reflective, but seems like a bit of an oversight by the company. That's my only complaint with the bag.

17 in. laptop? Okay, the description says it holds up to a 17in. laptop, but on the dimensions it says the laptop sleeve is only 15in and that the whole thing is only 16in tall. Does is hold a 17in laptop or not??

17 inches refers to the diagonal measurement of the screen, not the width of your computer.

It does not.-------------------Says it does on Patagonia's site--------------------It does have a mesh water bottle holder on one side that holds my SIGG 1L bottle perfectly.

It is 16" (H) x 11.5" (W) x 8" (D). Also, note that despite the name of the product, it is 1550 cu in, not 2550.
