Zip up your Patagonia Women's Retro-X Jacket and go to the mountains. The slim-fitting Retro-X features a windproof barrier sandwiched between recycled polyester fleece and a moisture-wicking lining, so you stay warm and dry when you climb or Nordic ski. Nylon side panels reduce bulk for easy layering. Y-Joint sleeves mean this Patagonia jacket won't ride up when you reach for that bomber handhold or plant your ski pole.
Bottom Line: Stay warm in the backcountry in your windproof, wicking Patagonia Retro-X.
This is a great jacket. It not only fits great (true to size), but also looks nice. It's windproof and light, and does not show dirt much at all which is important to me with twin toddlers. This is a must have jacket !
I am 5'5'' and 140 pounds. I usually wear medium, but based on previous reviews, I am wondering-- should I get a large?
My second questions is if this jacket is appropriate for winter aerobics. I am training for a marathon, and run a great deal outside in very cold conditions. Is this jacket breathable?

Got the black as a gift for my wife and she loved it so much she went and bought another in brown. Inside is kind of rough, not as soft as I thought it would be. She always wears a large and this jacket was no different. This is her go to jacket for the winter in Utah.
This jacket really works! It was 7 degrees the other morning, with an additional windchill, and I decided to put it to the test. I took my dogs for their morning walk, and was not a bit cold in my upper body, and I was only wearing a light fleece shirt underneath the jacket. My legs, on the other hand, were completely numb. Facing north I didn't feel the wind at all through the jacket. Make sure to keep the pockets zipped, otherwise you will feel the wind seeping in. I think it runs small, I ordered a large instead of a medium, and it fits perfectly.
From this page there is a link that explains what the various symbols on the tag in the jacket mean also. When in doubt, go with the manufacturer's recommendations!
This is a great fleece: it's genuinely warm, it's fitted (due to the stretchy panels on the sides) yet night too tight, and it's durable. As soon as I tried this one I knew my other fleeces would be relegated to the second string. I'm not sure this runs small, it's just a neater fit than a lot of fleeces. I'm 5'7'', 135 and usually wear a medium, and I wear a medium in this. If I had a quibble, it might be that it's a tiny bit short, but other than that the sizing has never been an issue. I would definitely buy this again.
Love the jacket and the Gobi Berry color. Only complaint is that the Medium was snug so exchanged for a Large and there is a lot of material in the back of the jacket.
I am always cold and wore this jacket out over a long sleeve shirt for a morning hike. I was warm and comfortable walking in the high 40's with a light dizzle. It is a little short in the torso and I have a short torso. I do like the sleeve length since I have long arms. I ordered a size S (5'4" 110lbs) and have plenty of room. Could have probably gone down to a size XS. The body is slightly stiff but I am hoping it will soften up after I wash it a few times.
If you are looking for a jacket that is comfortable enough to wear in a cold office (etc), but warm enough to wear aout on chilly days... this is it!
I really like the 'slim' fit... it is plenty roomy, but flattering. I got a M, (I'm 5'-5", 120-125lbs), and it looks slim, and i can layer a vest under or wear a suit jacket underneath.
It is windproof... really.
My only slight dissapointments are that the inside is a different finish (not fuzzy like the outside), so it is a little stiffer than some other fleece jackets, and is more comfortable with a long-sleeve or sweater underneath. Also, the different matierial along the sides and underarms makes a 'woosh' sound... but it seems that this matierial is there because the fuzzy could ball up... so I guess it is justified.
Overall it is a great jacket. Comfy for cold-weather, and you can layer UNDER it- unlike many other fleeces. I take it to work with me everyday to wear in the office in case I am cold, and to wear when I go out in the field in the cold fog and icky winter weather.... it is great for both!
Emily, depends what you're looking for... The Retro-X is a very warm windproof fleece. And the R2 is a lightweight piece with more of a technical background, designed to be warm, compressible, and lightweight. Both are great to layer and super comfortable and long lasting fleece.
This jacket is just perfect for what it is. The fit is athletic and flattering. It has some elasticity somehow in the fleece material, which permits it to stretch with you during activity. This is not a lightweight or midweight fleece, however. I would bring it as my warmest layer for a spring or summer mountain trip. Because of its windblock properties, I would not consider it all that breathable.
I gave this jacket 1 star because it is a very attractive jacket, and I gave it another star because it is very good quality, however the fit was weird on me. I'm an xs and the jacket fit great in the torso, however the arms were super long and if you bunch it up then the shoulder area goes up and it looks like you're wearing shoulder pads. I also tried the Patagonia micro-puff jacket, same thing... and I gave the Rain jacket a try... same thing. Not for the petite built, but for some one with average torso length and longer arms. I'm just going to stick with my North Face.
i have never been able to try this fleece on and am wondering what size to get. i am 5'1", 110lbs, and have C/D cups. i have an R2 jacket in XS but have found it is snug in the chest and should have gotten a S. do the retro x jackets run small too? should i order a M?
I don't think you need to go as big as a medium for sure, small might be the ticket for you though. The Retro X and the R2 are both slim fit, but the R2 is slightly slimmer so you'll have more room w/ the Retro X.
windproof and looks totally cool. it runs true to size, but it is a slim fit - which i happen to like. definitely warm and way windproof - so you can get away with wearing fewer layers underneath
This jacket is shorter than I would have liked but the warmth is worth it. I'm 5'4" and it goes to my waist. When the description says it's windproof, it really is. I wore this in Boston when it was 28 degrees F with a thin baselayer. I was really surprised that this was all I needed in such cold and windy weather. It's stiff at first but when you wash it, it's not as stiff.
I love this jacket! It is an upgrade from the standard North Face Denali. I was looking for a nice fleece, unlike the millions of North Face's that walk the streets and hallways of my high school. I heard that Patagonia's were high quality. I have had mine for a month now and have not been disappointed. It keeps out the wind better than a simple fleece due to the inside lining. This lining makes the jacket a bit stiff, but it is still extremely comfortable. I am 5'7" with a small/medium sized chest and the medium fits great. The jacket is fitted, so those who don't want a snug fit, shouldn't be looking at this jacket. Going up a size won't change the fitted aspect of it. I only wish it were a little bit longer. Other than that, I would buy one in every color! Great product!
I absolutely love my Retro-X. I bought it in the sable brown and it looks great. My only word of caution is to order a size UP. I'm 5'3" 125 pounds and almost always wear a small in jackets (i.e. in Northface, Columbia, etc.) because I like to be able to wear a hoodie under them. I'm glad I ordered a medium in this jacket.
This jacket is fit like a sweater as others have pointed out. If you have broad shoulders or a medium bust normal sizing will be at least a conforming fit. IMO order at least one size larger than normal.
The level of construction is very good and the materials are high quality as well. At the standard pricing it's rather spendy in terms of pure function. The natural/mushroom is a nice and stylish color combo.
Warm as a lamb's fleece. The jacket is light, flexible and windproof. Comfy ... and dog hair does not stick like it does to smoother fleece. So warm you can skip the midlayer you would need with a hardshell.
The jacket looks great. I like it's coffee and milk color (goes with any color), it is form fitting and true to size. However, it is not as warm as I had expected, then again, I am cold natured. Got it for a great price so I cannot complain.
Where do I start. This jacket has sleeves and a body length that are actually long enough, but cut slim enough for long and lean ladies. It is the warmest fleece I've ever owned. I downhill ski and am always freezing, but this baby kept me nice and toasty. I own it in the light tan color and get compliments on it all the time. Patagonia is the BEST.
Great Jacket for mild/moderate conditions. Jacket runs tight in the chest, so i would recommend that you go up a size. (I wear a medium in the North Face Denali, and i got a medium in this but the chest is snug). Its probably best to order two sizes and decide between the two.
I just got this fleece and I love it! It's warm and fits really well. (I always get a M in Patagonia tops and this fits perfect!). Mine is the Olallaberry color and it's really cute! Definitely recommend this fleece.
This is a great jacket. It not only fits great (true to size), but also looks nice. It's windproof and light, and does not show dirt much at all which more...
