When temps drop into the realm of frigid, you need to bring out the big guns. Such are Patagonia's Capilene Expedition Weight Hiking Crew socks. They are the warmest socks that Patagonia makes for mountaineering, climbing, and backpacking in cold weather. Constructed primarily with merino wool that provides expedition weight warmth with half the bulk of other synthetics, these socks also do a great job at controlling moisture. A felted foot bed adds cushion and insulation, and lasts the lifetime of the sock. Patagonia's innovative, rib-cuff design is non-restrictive and prevents socks from sloughing into boots. Flex zones in the toe box and ankle allow for a natural, non-bunching flex.

Bottom Line: Keep your toes happy (keep your toes period!) with a pair of Expedition Weight Hiking Crew socks.

Excellent sock, super comfortable and kept my feet toasty warm on a snowboarding trip.

Great on the first day were it was in the teens and high wind chill, keeping my feet warm while having no problem letting them breathe on the second day when it was much warmer (35-40F).

Socks

I found these socks ran big. I ordered a small and had to give them away because they were more like a large. The weight and quality looked very nice but they just don't fit me.

expedition sock ???

These socks are just fine however 2 points need to be addressed. The sizing seems a tad optimistic. Large was a real squeeze for an 11 sized hoof. Definitely needed XL. Methinks they are also somewhat thinner than what one would expect with the moniker -"expedition".
Just great for spring/ fall however I used others twice as thick after the first snowfall.
