Description

Made with Patagonia's warmest and most breathable baselayer fabric.

Conquer bitingly cold conditions in the Patagonia Women's Capilene 4 Expedition Weight Zip-Neck Top whether you're skiing at night, ice climbing, mountaineering in arctic temps, or camping in winter. Its Polartec Power Dry High Efficiency fabric (Patagonia's warmest, most breathable baselayer fabric) includes a hefty amount of polyester that warms you to the core, and a bit of spandex that lets you move freely so you don't feel restricted when you reach high up to make that axe placement while you're ice climbing. Don't worry about stinking up the cabin after an intense night ski session because this baselayer has Polygiene permanent odor control that keeps stenches to a minimum. In case you get too hot, which is a big possibility,. Patagonia integrated a long front zipper to vent excess heat. The thumbholes secure wrist coverage and keep the sleeves in place when you're layering. The articulated raglan sleeves minimize chafe for comfort and maximize movement for an ultimate performance.

Super warm

Brought this backpacking. It ended up being rainy and misty and cold. I layered this under my puff coat and it kept me really warm and dry. So happy I bit the bullet and got them on sale. Patagonia sizing is a little weird. I find that it fits my lower body (skinny legs) but upper body it fits longer torsos. I have a short torso so it feels too long on me but I dont mind since its going to be layered under and will keep my backside warm. I like the thumb holders to keep the sleeves over your hands. I got a size medium so its a little roomy to fit another tank under if needed.

Runs big

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Height: 5' 9"
    Weight: 140 lbs
    Size Purchased: Medium

I'm normally an "extra medium," women's size 8 to 10 in shirts. This top fits too roomy on me. I really like it so I'll use it anyways but its too bulky to tuck into pants or treat like a baselayer.

Best baselayer ever

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 6"
    Weight: 145 lbs
    Size Purchased: Medium

When this top came and I pulled it out of the bag, my first thought was "there's no way this thing is going to work". Holy crap, was I wrong. I have spent years shivering on chairlifts and hating anything about being outside in the winter aside from the physical act of skiing or snowshoeing. (I blame my childhood in upstate New York for nerve damage.) I only wish this baselayer came into my life sooner. What a game changer. I got the bottoms too, as well as two more pairs. LOVE.

Can't Say Enough! Awesome Piece

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Patagonia's put out yet another amazing layering piece for your hand-picked winter collection of favorite layers, and, if you've ever wondered whether to drop your hard-earned bucks for a technical layering piece, this would be included with the must-haves. The ingenious design of the fabric keeps you warm, is breathable and moisture-wicking. Meant for higher output activities where breathability and warmth are equally as important. The cut and design has a slim, flattering look, very stylish, and I'm a big fan of the color choices. There's a hooded version as well for those who prefer it. I wear it skiing and kicking it since I love the style. For questions or info on this or other layering items, hit me up, klindsey@backcountry.com.

light, warm, and stylish

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I am leaving on a 3 month backpacking trip in Patagonia in a few months and am stocking up on all the best baselayers I can find, this is the top that was recommended to me for the trip because it is lightweight and the polyester/spandex mixture provides optimal warmth without locking in moisture. Thus far I have used it snowboarding and love it. Very comfortable, very light, very warm.

I also layer it for casual wear as well. I am 5'2.5 about 125 lbs and ordered Tyrian purple/tailored grey x-dye, looks exactly like the image. If you are looking for a great baselayer, can't go wrong with the Capilene 4.

Functional and Stylish

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

I got this for my sister for when she goes running and hiking in the winter, little did I know she would start wearing it every day. by all accounts from her it is the most comfortable base layer she owns and Patagonia did a great job of shaping it so that it is stylish as well! The fit is definitely true to size and specifically she mentioned how well this breathes despite being a heavyweight base layer even with it fully zipped up. Great for running, biking, and a good layer skiing, snowshoeing, etc!

Amazing!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

This is the perfect lightweight base layer, yet still super warm. The inside feels like fleece and is incredibly soft and comfortable. I love the length as well. I'm 5'6" and the shirt and sleeves are nice and long; I can use the thumbholes without having to stretch the sleeves which is a rare occurrence for me with some other brands.

Very Warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

So far I am very impressed, this top fits true to size, not too tight nor too loose. I was a bit worried the first time I wore it that it wouldn't be as warm as my 10 year old heavy weight base layer but I am amazed how warm it feels. I am now thinking about buying the bottoms. I have recommended this to several people.

Great layer!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Patagonia definitely has the perfect base layer down pat. This layer keeps you toasty on warm fall days and is a prime insulator as the days grow colder. The inside is a soft fleece that feels great on your skin. I am 5ft 8in and 145lbs and the medium fits perfectly. You couldn't ask for a better layering piece!
