I got this shirt in the cool blue + white striped pattern and was really looking forward to adding it to my winter running/biking/hiking wardrobe. But, as shown in the pics (but even more exaggerated in real life), the shirt balloons out in a funny way well above the waist (so not intended for hip room) - not as in, flare out subtly, but bubbles out. Very strange. I even ordered on the small side (Patagonia runs a size big for me). I had to return this shirt - bummer.

I love this shirt. I bought it for running and for lounging around in and I love it for both. It is a little big but I also think that it's not meant to be a tight fitting shirt. It's certainly not too loose as to where I would return it for a size smaller.

I bought this to replace my old Capilene 3 that I wore out after so many (many) days in the back country. (You could see where my pack straps eventually wore the fabric thin.) This shirt is the same size and "same fabric" but completely different. Odd. Still, I like the soft, comfy material and it layers nicely. I like the red color for visibility in the woods should I need to be seen.

This is one of my favorite base layers. It's really soft and the seams prevent any chafing. I don't think it runs large, its just not tight fitting. I really like the length, it is definitely long but great for those winter days.

You might want to consider ordering a down a size. I have other capilene baselayers in the same size (women's small) that are a little loose, but I was swimming in this one. It's so long in the torso, I don't think even the XS would fit. For reference - I'm 5'3", 105 lbs. Really nice otherwise so I'll give it 4 stars.

I love the Capilene zip neck top. Very warm alone and can easily fit another layer underneath. Washes well.
The only negative is that it snag's, keep away from Velcro.
I am giving it a 4 star only because it snag's.

This Cap 3 zip neck by Patagonia is a great baselayer for winter outdoor activites......match this with a fleece midlayer and a goretex shell and you are bomb proof. This piece of clothing is also multifunctional, because it fits so well, it can used to wear as just a nice "sweater" when you are at the bar after a day on the slopes..........Anytime my husband purchases Patagonia Cap3 wear for himself....I get some too.

The double sided aqua stitching is not robust. It started unraveling after just one pitch of rock climbing. I don't recommend this for sports activities where any friction is involved.

I do not agree with Anonymous, i've had my cap 3 for 6 years and not one seam has gotten weak. Great piece of clothing. I'm obviously on here shopping for another! :-)
