Description

Dress appropriately.

You wouldn’t wear cotton boxers to swim in, just like you wouldn’t wear neoprene to ski in, so try what works best during aerobic activities in varying temps, and wear the Patagonia Men’s Capilene 3 Zip-Neck Top. This breathable, quick-drying, stretchy top retains heat while you sit at a belay station, and dumps heat when you unzip your jacket while skinning in the backcountry. Patagonia brushed the Capilene 3 Zip-Neck base layer and gave it flat-locked seams for comfort, compressibility, and easy layering.

Here's what others have to say...

Nice layer

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

I think the Cap 3 runs a little large(6'2" 175lbs and is not as slim fitting, where as Cap 1 & 2 have a slim athletic fit.

Not only do I always wear this shirt for outdoor pursuits, I also wear it to work as my "sweater vest." It's that fancy!

EEeh

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

Heard a lot of good stuff so decided to pick up a piece. Typically use smartwool and stoic stuff. Can't say this was any better. Material felt a little harsh. Build quality was great and fit was great too. Just not for me.

Patagonia Capilene 3

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

Shirt fits well,warm and comfortable.
I typically fit a medium on all the shirt company. This shirt fits a little snug compared to others, makes a great medium weight base layer.
zipper length is adequate but could be a bit longer. great shirt at the sale price paid.

The neck coverage is perfect, as you can see in this photo. I find it keeps me warm in the morning, and cool when the sun beats down on me. I am very surprised by the performance of this shirt.

I wear this exclusively during early season alpine climbs (even if I tend to look a little bloated in it by the end of the climb).

Perfect for Alpine climbing...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have found that this top is perfect for spring time alpine climbs in Colorado. I tend to wear this, and only this. If it is especially cold in the morning, I will throw my hardshell over it, and take it off as I warm up. Patagonia really has their act together.

Versatility

I have worn this top skiing, hiking, camping, landscaping, and fishing year round in both the Upper Peninsula and Central Colorado. This is just the right weight for high activity level ventures as well as wearing around town under your favorite flannel. Im 6' 180 and prefer the large.

Top Notch

Very pleased with this product; gets it done outside and looks great for just hanging. Snatched it up for $30 so can't go wrong doe!

Great Product

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I wore this lightweight sweater to the peak of Mt. Baldy (10,064ft). It was windy and in below freezing temps at the summit. I got to admit, this sweater kept me a bit warm.

Perfect Shirt

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have several of these - a few for the outdoors and a few for just hanging out around town or the house. They fit me perfectly, look great and are a nice balance of warmth and weight.

very nice

This is a quality piece of material, very comfy and warm. My go to layer for cold early morning hikes.

Nice and Comfy

I am about 5'8" and 135 and bounce around a small and XS for Patagonia. I got a small because it is a slim fit, but is not compression. Fits well. The Length in torso is nice, Sleeves are a tad long. Zipper is nice and does not get caught on neck like some other pieces do. really like how seams are on top of arms and not in rubbing areas. Good weight, can use it as first layer or good second layer.

Is that a cap3 shirt or are you happy to see me?

Comfortable, soft, non-restrictive, warm...what else are you looking for? Purchased for skiing and would do so again. The zip neck is a great feature. I personally like the loose fit as well. Not everybody feels good in tight clothing.

4 stars due to price but like anything else if you're willing to pay what they're asking then who are you to complain?

what's the diffrence between the 2 and 3?

Responded on

Capilene 3 is a thicker and warmer material. Capilene 2 is classified as "lightweight and more breathable" and is 4oz of polyester knit, whereas Capilene 3 is "more versatile" and 5.4 oz of polyster Polartec Powerdry according to Patagonia.

Nothing better!

Patagonia hits another homerun with this lightweight but warm layering piece. Originally purchased for my upcoming trip to Ireland I have absolutely fallen in love with this piece. I used to purchase from patagonia occassionally but now given the choice, they are my go to brand for everything outdoors. If the product was not amazing enough, Patagonia's lifetime warranty gives the added piece of mind.

Overall very pleased!

Couldn't be more pleased with the 3 Zip-Neck. The only caution is that the sleeves are a little longer than my arms. My arm length is a 32-33 in a more fitted, dress shirt and I found the sleeves were longer than my other/similar Capilene pullovers.

Capilene 3 Zip

Patagonia makes some fantastic baselayers in the Capilene 1,2,3 and 4 versions. This is the midweight zip version and is a comfortable shirt to wear, looks good and does a great job of wicking moisture. The zipper is a nice option to vent if you start getting a little warm. I have noticed a significant difference in warmth between this shirt and the Capilene 1 and 2.

Patagonia considers this a slim fit but I think of it more as an athletic fit, fits snug but not tight. It is not compression fit like some other baselayers.

In most conditions, this baselayer and a vest under a good shell is a great combination.
