Patagonia Capilene 3 Zip-Neck - Long-Sleeve - Men's - 2007 BCS

This was a Christmas present for my husband two years ago. Both the shirt AND my husband still looks great! it washes well, it's comfortable, and it is a very handy shirt to take on all our outdoor adventures. Hubby is 5'10" 190 lbs. the large fits good. He wears it a base layer.

i have the navy and brown and black. i would wager that God had a hand in designing the glory of this beautiful article of clothing weaved from angel hair and descended from heaven with endless angels blowing their horn. i can't say enough about how functional and stylish and great this top is. all i know is i'm definitely expanding my collection from 3...to all the colors they'll ever put out.

Light and keep me dry when I'm going for my 1.5 hour run...it have a good worm for down to +17C alone. and as a 2nd layers down to +14C

One of my favorite layers that I take just about everywhere. Fairly lightweight, but good warmth for the weight. It's a comfortable layer that fits a niche in my wardrobe somewhere between the long sleeve shirt and micro fleece in terms of warmth. Absolutely the best layer you will ever need. I wore this as my only layer and had a jacket on in 30 degree weather and was warm the whole day. Worth the money, high quality. *** Follow the washing instruction if you don't want them to get ruined, I hang dry mine and they fit as good as new*** Buy these you will love them and I guarantee you'll never want to return them. One of the most versatile tops I have ever worn. Great breathability and quick drying while holding up to all the abuse you can give it. I have a few in my quiver because I tend to wear them almost everyday in the winter either on the mtn or just around town.

Has a great fit and is really warm, sometimes too warm for being a base layer. The only bummer is that I find the zip uncomfortable when up all the way, its tight and kind of rubs my neck weird.

the greatest, Cap basees are the bees knees. i never leave home without this thing. from boarding the Utah bowls to snowshoeing in Tremblant and from summer hikes in the georgian hills to late fall crisp outings in vermont, this is always with me and has yet to let me down in the slightest. i must have a dozen cap layers and i doubt i will ever stop picking them up in my travels. you need this piece of clothing, it just makes life a little more enjoyable than it already is

this top is really worth every dime, and i got it discounted on backcountry with great service as always. The capilene 3 works great in cold temps as a stand alone baselayer (i wore it alone while doing some winter backcountry camping in rocky mountain np and it kept me warm and comfortable). i am 5'9 220 and the XL works perfectly. get one! or two

The best base layer out there. I wear mine all the time - skiing, hiking, peak bagging, at home watching tv. You won't be disappointed. Although I do with Patagonia made a long size to fit my large frame better.

The 3 is the ideal weight. and the zip makes it comfortably adjustable for anything but the hottest or coldest weather. My comfort range in it is probably ~75 down to ~45. It fits well, (slim but not snug), holds off the stink long enough, dries fast enough and looks nice enough so you don't have to change immediately after wearing. Made well-enough that you'll only need one for a long time.

I would really get the zip neck because it really helps when the wind is blowing and protects the neck. Would absolutely recommend to anyone participating in winter activities!

This shirt is perfect for running on a cool day or just for lounging around the house. I never get hot since it regulates body temperature really well and wicks away whatever perspiration that may occur. It is so light that you barely feel you are wearing it too. For those who think that this shirt stinks after wearing a few times, let the shirt sit around for a few days. I have worn it on several runs, sitting around the house and still haven't washed it and it still smells like a shirt that hasn't been worn. If you're really picky like me about washing your clothes as rarely/little as possible, leave this shirt out for a day or two in a clean place and the odor will be gone. After all, what's the point of the gladiodor control if it isn't utilized?

I got this for my husband for a base layer for skiing and he loves it. He is 5'11" and about 185, the medium fits perfect. He wears it from early fall until spring for anything outside. The only garment he likes better is anything merino.

Patagonia is the best....and this Cap 3 Zip Neck will be all I need for my baselayer. The shirt is totally true to size and fits great. Not only will I be wearing it as my baselayer, but can be used as a regular shirt to wear around town......Looks great, feels great.

This a awesome shirt. One thing though these tend to run smaller than other Patagonia merchandise. I find this true in all the Cap 3 stuff. So order a size up. Also, I give a HUGE thumbs down to the Cap 3 crew. I have two and both have had the neck seems come undone. The zips seem to have no problem.

After finding myself wearing my Capilene 2 zip top on a nearly daily basis, I decided to pick this up for colder days. I'm so glad I did. This top has a very sturdy feel, and keeps me plenty warm either as a baselayer or over a t-shirt. Now I find myself wearing it more often than my Capilene 2.

This is one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing i own. The C 3 allows great warmth and protection from cold environments. Recently on a backpacking trip i used as a mid-layer/outer - layer over Capilene 1 T, this was a good combo which served to protect me from the cold but also allowed me to move freely with my pack without getting overheated. I have also worn the "C 3" on colder snowy ventures were once again as a base-layer combo with C 1 crew, Arc'teryx gamma Ar soft-shell jacket, and Theta hard shell it worked great to keep me warm and happy. I have on occasion found the "C 3" to be versatile enough to be worn out around town and on Campus ( Im in college ), i have received several complements on both the way it fits my body and feels. Only complaint is that it will get very stinky after prolonged physical activity. all around good buy will most likely purchase another.

I have this in black and it's a winner. It's comfortable, non-itchy, and smooth when putting other layers over it. It's form-fitting and does shrink if put in the dryer. I've used it alone under my down jacket for cold weather. I've also gone running in it and it wicks moisture well and dries very quickly. It breathes well and just does what it's supposed to do. With that said, you can usually find it on sale at REI at the end of the winter season so personally I wouldn't shell out the full $55 for it. PatagoniaCommunity.blogspot.com

This shirt is great. i wear this skiing and I stay warm and dry no matter how cold it is or how much I sweat. I also were this on cold bike rides. love it so much I bought 3 more.

I wanted to like this baselayer, but the arms were just too short for me. Also, putting this on was awkward because I always wear and undershirt. When I put this top on, the undershirt would get bunched up in the armpit area of the baselayer. Good warmth, and good material, but not a fit for me.

Great for running in 40-ish degree weather. Capilene is great. Wicks sweat perfectly. This one is also nice just as a layer for colder days.

The fit is perfect and it wicks moisture fast. Very obvious comfort over a huge range of temps.

I own two of these; the older one, which has seen extensive and heavy use, is in perfect condition, whereas the newer one (3 months old) developed a hole the size of a quarter in the sleeve after two weeks, started pilling after two washings, and now has a completely blown out seam. I wear these on a (nearly) daily basis, and it is a great piece of clothing. It works equally well as a casual piece of clothing and a cold weather climbing top. Super comfortable and moves well. I'll order another because I like them so much, and hope I won't get questionable quality on the replacement.

Finally I found a go-to shirt for running and mtb. It's pretty thick compared to the typical stretchier baselayers, but dries way faster with it's looser knit construction. It's not as soft but still feels great next to skin. As a standalone piece it's comfortable from about 42 to 65 degrees while running. It's actually perfect by itself at 35 degrees once you are all warmed up and running hard, but you'll need a vest or something windproof to help you warm up initially. I think a Cap 1 and Cap 3 would be the only baselayers you would ever need.

An excellent base layer for running in the upstate NY winters. I wear a Sporthill running jacket over this and have stayed toasty on runs in 15 degrees. I have not had any odor problems like some other people reported and this shirt does it all and is amazingly light! I am dry as a bone after my runs even when really bundled up.

I am 6'3" 185 and i purchased the medium since i wanted a very close, active fit. The body is long for a medium (which is GREAT) and the sleeves are a fine length. I could not be happier and at 50 bucks i think it is fairly priced.

Very comfortable and warm. Wicks sweat away and dries fast. The wind can cut through very easily though. I'd say the Medium in a little on the tighter side.

I guess this is expected to capilene. A quick wash in the condo sink, wring and dry and the bathroom overnight and it was ready to go again the next day.

This is one piece that will always be in my arsenal. Whether it be summer alpine climbing or winter backcountry skiing, I always have this piece. I'll throw a Capilene 2 underneath and a softshell over, and I'm set for a day of romping in the cool to cold.
It's got a great fit that isn't too tight, nor is it very loose. It's easy to fit one layer underneath, but not much more than that otherwise the fit would start to be tight.

I am 6'4" 190lbs. I usually wear a large or XL. I ordered a large and to my surprise found it to be quite loose fitting and baggy. Considering that this is a performance base layer I would have expected it to be a closer fit. I do not see how it can "wick moisture fast" if it does not even come into contact with the sweat. There is no elasticity to this product. I do not recommend it as a performance base layer. It may work as a regular clothing item if you like wearing polyester.

These are super warm, breath well, and are nice and light. The zipper is critical if you're engaged in any activity. I'll wear it around camp, but only during activity if temps are freezing. Highly recommended.

Great baselayer for aerobic winter sports. I even wear it alone for those early morning runs where the air is still cool in the higher elevations. Fit is athletic, size up if you're looking for a looser fit. Cheers.

I like this shirt so much that I just bought a second. It keeps you warm and wicks well. I wore it, alone, as a top layer for much of the on-trail time during a 33-mile hike in 30-40 degree weather. It did get somewhat malodorous by the third day.

It's not the best for layering with other zip-necks though. Having 4 zip-up mock turtle collars can cause some uncomfortable collar-crunch. I'm looking for a cheap cap-3 crew for this reason.

i got the cap 3 about a month ago and love it. i"m 6'1 and a 180 and the med fits great on me. it keeps me dry and toasty.

got this a few weeks back and has proved to be a great insulator and baselayer. im 5'11'' and the length of the XL was perfect. im a little husky so the XL was a little snug but not uncomfortable. either way, great purchase and for the patagonia quality you can't beat the price.

I used this shirt to hike the 2,178-mile Appalachian Trail. It holds up very well, dries quickly, kept me warm, and I use not other base layer bedies this. Cannot give it enough recommendation.

This shirt looks really good, feels even better and keeps me warm and toasty without odor issues. I just ordered another one.

Wore this for ski trips for 2 years. Does the job well. People say it runs small, but its a base layer, it has to be tight so it wicks properly. Ziper on the chest is nice so you can vent your core easily.

One complaint is that after 2 years it did start to fray on the chest where my suspenders are. I don't think this has any impact on the performance however.

Not quite as warm as an equivalent weight merino wool shirt, but still great. Wicks well, zipper makes temperature adjustment on-the-go easy, and fits nice & snug. Layers beautifully.

Great layer and stuffs into your bag perfectly on those "not-so-cold" days. My first one lasted me four years. I usually wear a medium, but I had to switch out for a large. Order a size larger if you are in between sizes.

Ran in morning,15 degrees, used under a mizuno shirt. After cooling off and inside found a mysterious miniscule layer of moisture on outside of shirt. Overdressed? Kept me warm and dry, so I was very comfortably pleased

Patagonia clothing is not as bulletproof as it once was. I have been purchasing long sleeve zip Patagonia knit shirts regularly for over ten years. Fortunately the last three Cap 3 LS zip shirts that I purchased last winter are still warm, comfortable and indestructible. The Cap 2 LS zip shirts tend to snag and unravel, creating large holes in the sleeves. You will appreciate the Cap 3 LS zip shirts for a long, long time.

I bought these for my dad for Christmas because I have a pair of the womens cap 3 and I love it! At first I thought it was too thin and won't be warm enough but I was wrong. It's surprising how just this under my shell keeps me toasty on cold days skiing. Another thing I love about it is it doesn't change when I wash it. I have lots of other baselayers and when I put them through the wash they always feel different or get tons of lint stuck to them, or something weird happens. These still feel new- I wear it around all the time! The zip neck also looks good so you can pull it off wearing it on it's own.

I bought a white Capilene recently then promptly turned around and bought another. Without doubt my favorite shirt, I wear it every day. Perfect fit, very comfortable, nice high collar. Wonderful.

I have this shirt in black and gray. I consider it my staple piece of clothing. Can be worn in the summer on cool nights, or winter, layered with other stuff. Just purchased it in cool new brown, and green. Use it for running, mountain biking, and even to the office! New material is well worth the extra cashola.

I just got back from a week of camping on the Coconino Rim just S. of the Grand Canyon. I expected mid Sept. lows in the 40s. Instead they ranged from 23 to 30. Patagonia's Capilene 3, coupled with an old (as in faithful) fleece sweater and a windbreaker, kept me comfortable. It's amazingly warm for its weight/bulk. I'll consider it a "must take" for cool & cold weather. My only gripe is the slightly-too-snug fit, but that makes it easy to wear under other layers.

This product is much baggier than its pictures suggest. If you're long and thin it won't fit you.

The Capilene 3 shirt I bought has to be one of the better purchases I've made for athletic gear. The shirt is quite thin yet keeps you very warm on cold days. I regularly run or bike with it in 40 degree weather and it gets the job done. The only complaint I have is it's not too effective blocking the wind. Otherwise, this shirt really is a good deal. Also, it's cut very well and not too slim fit.
