My go to shirts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I have several of these and love em. give me a pair of Carharts and my patagonia capilene and i am good to go.

great base layer

i'm 5'11", 155lb, a medium fits slightly loose but very comfortable, length is just right. i'm a 38" chest so it's not too tight. sleeves a little long for my 32" arms but that's no issue. a great base layer, i have three of these

Awesome Stuff

I use them all the time. Love them! And when they get dirty, just throw them in the washer and dryer. They haven't shrunk yet, and I've been using them for a year now.

Constant companion

The Cap 3 is in my mind the ideal weight, makes a great layer on cold days but can serve on its own on chilly days if you are staying active. My go to for cool weather running and climbing.

comfort!

Great top, not itchy and comfortably warm

Gift

Bought this for my cousin because there reviews were great. Not much feedback but I haven't heard otherwise. Nice product.

No better base layer for boarding

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love these and will likely never buy a different base layer. Dry, warm, fits right, and doesn't smell after riding a full day on the mountain.

Patagonia Cap 3 is Great

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Patagonia Capilene 3 is good to my surprise.I weared it to hiking a weeks ago.As my base layers, Cap 3 is the best that I've never met.
I have the M,I am 5'77" and weigh 174 lbs. Love this shirt.

Great shirt!

  • Gender: Male

A capilene fan for many years, this shirt is great, but as other reviewers noted a little lighter and bigger than past versions. Then again I've gone to UL gear--trek with shorts, capilene 1 t-shirt, adding performance tights and a capilene 3 shirt when wet or cold, UL rain gear when wet; an OR Sun Runner hat in the sun, trail running shoes, a hydra-pack and Black Diamond elliptical poles.

The cap 3 is perfect under most adverse fall and spring conditions and the slightly too long sleeves and torso of the shirt are great during movement, eliminating cold spots. Hunkering down at night just use your sleeping bag as a cape instead of bringing a down coat. Oh and check out the new Sea to Summit UL Solo and Duo tents! Pretty sweet stuff, especially matched with a Western Mountaineering Mega Lite bag and GoLite Jam 50 pack. No I don't work for these companies. Just love being out there. Cheers!

Gotten better over the years

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've used capilene off and on for the past 8-10 years and I feel like things have really improved over that time. The present iteration is very nice and to me, fits a little looser than it used. Perhaps I'm just small. Who knows. I feel like the piece wicks very well, dries quickly, is warm, and regulates temperature quite well. I had been using wool baselayers exclusively the past couple years but I may reevaluate things. The Capilene 3 is half the price of a nice wool piece. Good option.

Great shirt.

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Love the shirt. Works as advertised and keeps me quite warm. This is my second Cap 3 shirt. The first one I purchased about 2 years ago. This new one is bigger and not quite as thick as the older one which is somewhat disappointing. Fits more like a shirt than a baselayer. I am 5'11" and weigh 170 lbs. I should have bought a medium for a snug fit. The large fits like a XL would normally fit. So it's probably going to see more "shirt" days than "baselayer" days but that is still fine with me.

Love the Patagonia Capilene

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The is a high-quality shirt for sure. I've yet to wear it skiing/hiking, so can't give a review on that, but it looks and feels great for just everyday desk-jockey life.

I'm 6'0, 171 and went with the Large - fits great.

How does this compare to Under Armour? I...

How does this compare to Under Armour? I really like Under Armour shirts and can someone give a fair comparison of these? I really like Under Armour compression cold gear but haven't tried their fitted cold gear. I do not own any Patagonia clothing although I have an R1 zip up waiting for me when I arrive back in the States. Thanks

Hey,

The Capilene's have been largely popular for a long time now and are very nice pieces of clothing. Hard to compare it to Under Armour in general. This is absolutely not a compression piece though and I would size it like a fitted long-sleeve t-shirt.

Not the King, but maybe a Prince

Have the XL, I am 6'1" and it fits well. Long enough to tuck in so that I can ski in it without it pulling out of my waist. Kept it's shape over two days of wear, but did start to develop some funk. I don't consider myself to be a stinky guy, but it just seemed to accumulate no matter what I did. I wore it solo with a hard shell so I wasn't sweating too heavily, but the funk still showed up. I have it in the Balsam Fennel and it looks great as a stand alone. However, all said and done, if this were made from Merino, it would be the king of my base layers. The fit is athletic, and it wicks moisture very well. You won't regret this purchase if you prefer synthetics.

Cap 3 works great.

I have used Patagonia Capilene for more than 10 years and this piece did not dissapoint. Right weight, prfect fit and I really like the colors they're doing now.

I run very warm and use this piece solo under my shell unless it's below 20 degrees. If you run average or cold, a fleece layer will be absolutely necessary.

The Cap 3 layer is also perfect around the house/yard on cool fall days.

Patagonia Cap 3

I ordered this shirt in a large as I am at the high end of the medium and low end of the large. I usually wear a medium in these shirts but liked the color and this was only available in a large. It is a bit big on me and runs true to size. Still performs perfectly keeping me warm when I am winter paddling or snowshoeing. I have several of these shirts from over the years and the new material is really comfortable next to your skin.

Slick look, great wicking

I loved this baselayer, so I bought two more. As a baselayer, I don't find myself too warm, but you automatically notice the wicking when you begin to perspire. If I am sweating, this is the most comfortable baselayer I've worn.

I wear this baselayer out because it has such a slick, fitted look to it. Even if you have a little excess at the abdomen level, this shirt will make you look fit. I'm 5'11", athletic build (11-12% body fat), with about a 39" chest. I went with a small.

Be careful with the alpha green. I bought it and the sleeves were an inch shorter than the others. I exchanged it. I'm not sure if it was a dud or not.

Awesome

Sadly I am a poor college student; If I wasn't, I would exclusively own Capaline 2 and 3 shirts.

is this a fitted or relaxed shirt?

IMO it is right in between fitted and relaxed. I would call it an "athletic" cut.
