Can't go wrong
- Familiarity:I've used it several times
- Fit:True to size
- Size Bought: Medium
This is the kid version of the base layer I wear. There's no way to go wrong with Patagonia, it's durable and warm. What more could you ask for...buy them!
Solid recommendation from friends
- Familiarity:I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
- Fit:True to size
My nephew is springing up like a weed these days, so when he needed some new long underwear I asked my parent friends what I should get him and Capilene was immediately recommended. So far so good, it fits him well and is nice and warm.
The best for my babes!
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
I won't put my kids in any other baselayer....the end. To say we've "put it through the wringer" is an understatement. These kids have LIVED in their capilene since the day we got them....2 years ago (I picked them up a bit large, so they have finally grown into them nicely this year) These are a year-round wardrobe staple for us.
When we hit the slope each week in the winter, we are there open to close. My kids go go go and barely take the time to eat a snack. Blizzards, wind, spring sleet--they don't stop, and they never once complain about being cold.
They sleep in these year round when we are camping (we hit 20 degree temps last January in our tent and they slept like babies), and I'll find them cozied up in them with their cocoa on a Sunday afternoon. They have been washed and worn, washed and worn, and there isn't a single snag or stray thread....they look mint. Patagonia wins again.
Washed 50x and it looks like new!
My son is hard on clothes. But this shirt - it rocks! We have washed it again and again and again, and it never looks old! We bought it in 2 colors. It's the only item in his clothes this year that lasted more than one season. Glad I bought it in a bigger size - he'll wear it again this next winter!
Perfect for our little shredders
- Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
We love Patagonia Capilene for our kids. When they outgrow a set, we just order the next size up. And it's always in good enough condition to hand down to the next kid in line. It breathes well, keeps them warm, and washes easily.
Patagonia Makes Great Long Underwear
This is the top layer to the essential Long Underwear uniform that I dress my kids in the winter. Like I said in the review for the bottoms, the long underwear lasts as long as the kids wear them. It does not shrink or shred. This is on my "Must-Have" gear list for my little skiers.

Sheena spot on. I wonder how your kids will feel in -15 plus east coast temps? My guess is OK as long as it is capilene 3. We will test it in AK this spring
