Calling all trail runners, skiers, hikers, mountain bikers, climbers, and any other ladies looking for a comfortable, warming layer for those favorite activities. The Patagonia Women’s Capilene 2 Long-Sleeve V-Neck Top preserves warmth as the temps drop. As you sweat, the open-knit Capilene fabric vents excess body heat and allows cool air to pass through and help maintain total comfort. Don’t rush to get home for a shower before you pick up the kids from school or grab groceries for dinner either, the slim-fit is flattering and the Gladiodor provides natural odor control.
I actually wear this shirt for swimming. I wear it over my swimsuit top every time I practice with my whitewater kayak in the pool. It is great because it allows me to wear a supportive swim top while being fully covered (I wear my spray skirt under the shirt). The fit is great for rolls because it is tight to the body and the sleeves are very tapered. Also, the fabric is created to not hold on to moisture so even when it is completely drenched, it doesn't get really heavy or drip excessively.
I love this shirt. Wore it over a thin UnderArmour T-shirt for a week-long canyon backpacking trip in Utah and found it the most comfortable and easy-to-layer long sleeve I've ever had. Moves well with me through hiking, climbing, running, frisbee, biking, and right now just bumming around getting ready for bed. I got the XS after trying on different sizes because it fit better, though I usually wear a small (4-6) in other shirts. Longer in the back so less peek-age, and I chose the v-neck because it's easier to get on and less constricting than the regular crewneck. Did I mention I love it? Love it. I'm here for more colors that I can't find in stores.
I am going on a trip to East Europe in a week where we will be doing a lot of walking tours; plus I like to camp in Houston in late Fall and late Winter. Would I be better with Patagonia Capilene 2 or the Capilene 1 long underwear to wear under my clothes?
Barabara, Tough to go wrong with either the Capilene 1 or Capilene 2 for how you plan on using them. Both are lightweight and super versatile, with just the right amount of warmth for a lightweight long underwear piece. Capilene 2 might be a touch warmer, and Capilene 1 is a silkier and smoother fabric.

I bought this under layer for a trip to Peru in December and it was AWESOME!!!! This shirt was thin enough to keep me warm and wicked away the sweat as I was hiking up to 15,000 ft. It is not scratchy to the skin like other brands and was extremely comfortable. I will buy Patagonia again.

Go with Capilene 2. I ski in capilene 2 or 3 in colorado winters and bike the spring with capilene 2 under my cycling shirt in the mid 50 degree weather in South Louisiana. It amazingly regulates your body temp - buy 2 or 3. they can be worn repeatedly, don't hold onto body odor and are SO comfortable. if you see these on sale, don't hesitate!
This piece can be worn as a base layer or as a cover up on chilly spring and fall days. I throw it on when I'm cold indoors as well. I keep it stashed in my bookbag while at work and put it on as a coverup while at the beach. it has become an staple in my wardrobe. HIGHLY recommend it. It true to size and the V-neck is so slight that I'd consider it a fun twist on a crew neck.
Used as base layer for skiing, with a turtleneck over and then my jacket. Was a bit worried about the v-neck but it was more like a crew than a deep v. Actually was almost too warm on 30 degree days! Handled sweat well and didn't stink. I'm tall so went with XL because I was worried about sleeve and back length - probably would have been fine with a L.
Does the current version of this shirt have a seam down the center of the back? I just tried one on at another store that did have a center back seam and am wondering if that is a previous years' version or the current version. Thanks!
Perfect to keep you warm on a cooler day without overheating you. Incredibly lightweight and comfortable material and a beautiful color on top of that. (Northern Light-blue) Great for any outdoor activity in the fall!
I bought one of these for a trip to Norway. It was great by itself during the days, under my rain gear during a rainy hike and under fleece in the cool evenings. But all that is no surprise. The thing that I have found it to be wonderful for is running. In Texas I rarely need much extra warmth on my runs. But I have found this top to be comfortable in a wide range of conditions. I think I like it best when I am going for a morning run and the shock of going from a warm bed to short sleeves is too much. It is just enough to keep a cool breeze off my skin, but it also breaths wonderfully as I warm up. The fabric is soft and smooth, never itchy. It has held up to dozens of washes. It is long enough for my long arms. Basically I'm going to buy a few more in different colors.
Write your question here... I"m going on a cruise to Alaska the end of this month and the beginning of Sept. I'll be flightseeing above the Arctic circle, landing there for an hour or so, and also kayaking along the Mendenhall Glacier. Is this garment good for those cold excursions as well as for others where the weather is average 60-s and the lows near 32?
I think for a trip to Alaska a Patagonia Capilene 3 would be a better option for you. It's offers a little more warmth for the cold temps, but will still be a good long sleeve shirt for you when it gets into the 60's. I wear mine practically all year round, and ski in it every day of the season.
I gave these to my mother and my girlfriend as gifts and they loved them. They say they are great undershirts for cooler days and perfect for the gym. My mother loves the feel of the material.
I am a petite with a curvy, athletic build and bought this top in a medium. It is long, and longer in the back than the front, which is good because it doesn't come untucked from my snowboard pants. Luckily the shoulders and sleeves still fit appropriately. The fabric is quite soft and very comfortable. I use this as a light-weight layer and have found it to be great for riding on warmer days (30 degrees F and up) as a base layer under my fleece-lined jacket. It keeps me warm and dry. The fit and cut of the shirt are stylish enough to be worn apres, however, it is a little bit see-through, so I'd recommend a cami or tank underneath for wearing it around town.
