I've never been backpacking before but my boyfriend and I are planning to do a lot of it this spring and summer, I'm not sure we'll be in very cold weather but most of the base layers seem to be long sleeve.... should I be looking at short sleeve?

Amber - where will you guys be doing most of your backpacking? If you're headed to the mountains, you'll need at least a short sleeve base layer, a long sleeve layer and probably an insulating layer and rain shell. If you're going to be in the south, you might need nothing more than short sleeves and a light rain shell. A couple great options for short sleeve layers would be:

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am amazed at how well this shirt works. I was skeptical when I put it on and could see through it. I have found that it is great for cool outdoor runs. It keeps me dry and is great under a windbreaker.

Wore this top multiple days in a row during my recent trip to zion nat park. Wore it as a layer while hiking through a river, wore it as my main layer during a strenuous day hike. Love it, casual without being shapeless. After 3 days of wear it didn't smell or lose it's shape. I'm 5'3 about 140 and wore the medium.

Perfect for layering

I bought the "prickly pear-lemon balm" green on sale to use as a base layer, figuring that the color wouldn't matter if it was underneath something else. It's such a great top that I'm now thinking of buying some of the other colors to wear on their own (it's definitely bright green, and I generally wear more neutral and dark colors). The fit is relaxed without being boxy or loose. The fabric has a nice texture and decent wicking. And the odor-fighting properties definitely work! I'm too ashamed to admit how many times I wore this top between washings!

You know? When I saw this top online I honestly thought the material was a silky type material, but boy was I off on that! LOL! However; I like the actual material of this top much better. To be honest, the silky type tops kind of hold smell in more than this top.. Also, one more plus and I will talk about size, this top washes sooo well, and it instantly dries (not really, but it doesn't take long). Now for the size, I am 5'2", 124 pounds, 34B bust, I ordered a small and the fit is perfect. Sleeves a tad long, but...it is totally unusual if they aren't. :) Love the top! Run on!
