The Patagonia Women's Capilene 1 Long-Sleeve Scoop-Neck is a silkweight base layer you'll wear all year. This fast-wicking, synthetic top is ultra lightweight and breathable, making it ideal for trail runs or hikes in muggy weather. During winter, wear the Patagonia Capilene 1 Scoop-Neck as your base layer while skiing at the resort or snowshoeing in the backcountry. The rib-knit collar is soft against your skin, and Patagonia's shoulder panels reduce chafing under your backpack's straps.
Bottom Line: Patagonia's silkweight Capilene 1 Long-Sleeve Scoop-Neck is one shirt that you'll wear all year.
My wife and I both use the Capilene line of products for our baselayers. For lightweight baselayers this is the first one I pull out of the drawer. Very comfortable, fits just right and feels good on your skin. Patagonia considers this a slim fit but I think of it more as an athletic fit, fits snug but not tight. It is not compression fit like some other baselayers.
Went up a size on my silkweight capilene shirts this time. I'm glad I did. When I tuck these in, they stay tucked in! Still waiting for the sleeves to shrink to fit better, but I'm still glad I bought medium instead of small.

I wore this shirt while backpacking in March in the Grand Canyon. It was a great base layer and kept me warm during the snow storm and cool during the blisteringly sunny day hikes. I sweat a lot, but I never felt wet or sticky because this shirt wicks away moisture very effectively. I can't say I didn't smell bad, but I did wear the shirt 5 days, so what shirt wouldn't stink?
This shirt also looks great as a regular top. It fits well and feels good against the skin. I have really long arms, but a size small (which I usually wear) has long enough sleeves.
If you're truly using it as a baselayer and layering on top of it, go with the Med, but if you're going to be using this as just a casual shirt for around town (really not what it's designed to be), go with the L.
Great colors and silky feel, easy to wear alone, to sleep in, or to layer but next time I'll order a size down, this is a bit loose for ideal base layer fit. Cap 1 and 2 run larger than Cap 3 and 4.
Capilene 1 us a versatile fabric that is not just underwear for layering. It looks good alone and is excellent for travel to any climate. I use this shirt and a black one of the same cut for most of my business trips, using it with my suit and with my climbing pants and jeans. They wash well and do not wrinkle. Fits a little loosely so consider buying one size smaller if you want a close fit for layering.
The merchandise is very good. The only complaint I have is the shirt had a yellowish spot on the top near the shoulder. Not sure whether it washed out since I bought this for a friend. Mark
Love this top - looks great even as a top to wear out and about. Worked perfectly under my coat hiking in 20 temps - didn't even need another layer. What I love is it never gets hot - just seems to regulate temps very well, which is exactly what I need. Works better than my nike dri fit top when I jog too (insulates a little better and wicks a little better). I am a size small, ordered xs and it fits with still some room to spare. Great top, very happy about the purchase and the sale price to boot.
I've loved the silk weight capilene since first trying it years ago. Found out I have to order medium even though I wear small because the shirts tend to shrink. The mediums fit me like they're made for someone w/ gorilla arms but they should fit better after a few washings. The "pink" color is a little odd - seems more like a melon color on the body with tones more toward red on the sleeves, but goes with at least one shirt I have so far (just not the very pink shirts). Black and white are great and I ordered 2 more in white tonight. Very pleased with this site's service.
