The slim-fit Patagonia Women's Capilene 1 Bottoms add lightweight insulation for chilly hikes, climbs, and ski days, and they do it all with 100% recycled materials. Their fast-wicking performance remains at the same impressive level as all Patagonia's base layers. The Capilene 1 Bottoms also use all-natural Gladiodor treatment for increased odor control and decreased stink in the mountains.

Bottom Line: The Patagonia Capilene 1 Bottoms—recycled materials for excellent performance.

versatile garment

The Patagonia Capilene bottoms are a great base layer as well as being comfortable for just lounging around the house. I took this garment in my backpack while hiking in Spain last fall---it is super light weight, it breathes and didn't get stinky. I could wash it in the sink and it would dry in no time. I wore it under my summer weight hiking pants when it got cold. I wore it to sleep in too. When I wasn't out hiking, I could use it for leggings under a skirt. As the weather gets a tiny bit warmer this spring, I plan to wear it when I go hiking, I bought a size larger than I would normally wear, so it wouldn't be skin tight, especially for wearing by itself. The Patagonia Capilene 1 bottom is very versatile and I definitely plan to purchase more Capilene garments.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Patagonia Capilene 3. Are these

Thanks for the suggestion on the Patagonia Capilene 3. Are these comparable to the dry wicking materials? How do I know what weight to get and for what conditions? We hike and backpack in all varieties of weather and I don't want to overheat, nor do I want to freeze. Can they be worn as pants?

Hi again Diane, all Capilene is super quick drying and was pretty much the original dry wicking material. I like Capilene 3 mostly for winter conditions under my ski pants, in temps under 50 degrees. Capilene bottoms are designed as base layer, and might not be super stylish, but could be worn on their own. Maybe only in the backcountry though :) Capilene 1 is great when worn under jeans or hiking pants since it's very smooth and doesn't bunch up, and will stlil add a good boost of added warmth.

light, comfortable and warm

I wore my patagonia long underwear until they were shreds and then I bought these. I'm very happy with them. We're having a cold, wet spring here and I wear these under rainpants or regular pants for dogwalking or, on a really cold day, just around town. They wash and dry well and are comfortable. I totally recommend them.

Hey folks, wanna pick your brains on this one. I just pruchased

Hey folks, wanna pick your brains on this one. I just pruchased the Stoic Breathe T-shirt Polartec power dry and I was wondering what bottoms I should get to compliment the shirt? I LOVE the shirt, egg plant, and the holes at the end of the sleeves are great for helping keep my arthritis warm. Thanks Diane

Diane,
The Capilene 1 bottoms are a great choice, they're lightweight, warm and super comfortable. Patagonia Capilene 3 Bottoms are another option if you're looking for something a little warmer.

Love these

I bought two pairs of these when they were on steep and cheap. I love them. I wear them as a base layer during winter soccer (under shorts and socks). I also wore them a ton this last winter. They're so thin, I could wear them under work pants or jeans and no one had a clue. They wash easily - just line dry them. Agree with other reviewer - they probably aren't the warmest base layer you could find. But it is easy to be active in them.
