Lightweight

These are super lightweight and perfect when you need just a little bit of protection under your snow pants. I wear Under Armour boxers under them so I haven't had the issue that many guys commented on. Soft fabric that feels good against your skin. These also work great on the bike under my Nike wind pants.

Lets You Hang Out

These pants are really great for what I bought them for: lightweight, cool layer between my body and my sleeping bag or quilt. The other reviews about the fly are spot on. Wear these and you will hang out. That being said, I just sewed the fly closed. Issue resolved. Now, they also catch on my feet when my dogs have been in sandals for long hard days and the pants will not pull over my heavier socks. So, I scrunch up the pants, and since they're so light, I can just pull them over my feet. Then I put socks on afterwards. I've worn them unwashed for nine nights in a row in the backcountry and not have had to wash them - well at least my girlfriend didn't complain.

Fly problems

They've redesigned the fly on the lightweight bottoms so that it is basically just a slit instead of having a fabric overlay (like the old ones use to have). The new design means that the fly hangs open. 'Nuf said.

Great underlayer piece!

Purchased these last year, I was skeptical at first as the package said they are designed to keep you cool and dry? I now rarely am without them in the cold months, they work great even under jeans. They also dont seem to gather any odors like other technical gear has a tendency to even after wearing for 2 or 3 days without washing (make sure you do put some regular underwear on first of course). I have worn them in temps from 65 down to 20 degrees, on many different hiking excursions, and have been extremely happy with them. I also purchased a pair for my brother, he hates long underwear that are tight or compressive and also he is not a big fan of synthetics....he only takes them off to wash them now! They have a somewhat loose fit which we both enjoy. I am 6'2", 185, with a 34" waist and 34" inseam and the medium fits me perfect. Highly recommend this product.

i'm 6'5" and was referred to this product for a cut for taller dudes. any tall guys out there purchase these?

Responded on

I think the XL in the Patagonia Capilen 1 Bottoms should be a good fit for you. I'm in a large at 6'1" and I think even the large would fit a taller dude, so at 6'5 you should be good to go in an XL. Great lightweight bottom, you'll be stoked.

i'm 6'4", 36" inseam, and they work fine for me. just don't expect them to keep your junk in without a supporting cast...

much warmer than I expected

Granted in temps below zero on the hill above 12,000 feet I'd opt for the 2, for any other time outdoors being active these are great for me. I actually like the gappping fly referred to earlier because it makes it easy to get out so to speak. When other guys are struggling in the lodge bathroom, your not. I would like a bit more cuff on the ankles but all in all I really appreciate this basee layer!

the fly is lame

I liked the fit and the weight but the fly is nuts or should I say... no I shouldnt this is a famly site. Any way the fly is like a gaping hole in the front of the pants so if you like to cruse O natural under your tights these are no for you.

Moved to Chicago!

I got these as an xmas gift to keep me warm in the chicago winter (moved from atlanta). While they are very thin and light they lack in keeping me warm in the beginning of the chicago winter. SO i opted to return these and upgrade to level 2. I thought about getting level 3 but they cost a little more and I didnt want to get too warm under my clothes.

my husband loves the lightweight insulated underwear. It is 100% polyester. I am looking for this for my husband and son. Are they the capilene?

Responded on

They sure are. You can go for the Capilene 2 option for a little more warmth, or even better I find is the merino wool - no itch, ultra soft, and less smell:http://www.backcountry.com/store/ICE0110/Icebreaker-BodyFit200-Legging-w-Fly-Mens.htmlJust double check the sizing chart - they run a little small.

Good from the city to the hill

This is a great base layer for freezing conditions where you know will be working hard on the hill. I have also worn it under my jeans around town when its freezing outside but I'm not planning on bombing anything. They fit snug on me and keep me warm in one of the most brisk windy town in the States.

skimping on the fabric

This is the third pair of silkweights i have owned and although the overall performance is the same, Patagonia has really skimped on the amount of fabric it uses to the cover the fly. Check older ones or any other bottoms they make and you will find that there is less of an overlay and that, for me, leads to more exposure of the privates.

Exactly what I had in mind

I purchased the Capilene 1 for the express purpose of using them as pajama bottoms in my sleeping bag when backpacking. I used to sleep in sweat pants which were too heavy and which made me ah...sweat. The capilene 1 bottoms are light and warm, but not too hot. A perfect solution for me.

Wicked Cool

These capilene pants rock. The keep you cool on the most strenuous activity. Despite there light weight they are surprisingly warm. I wore them under The North Face Select Convertible pants in 15 degree weather and was very comfortable. Solid piece of gear.

use it for everything

this is my 3rd pair of bottoms, the others ones have worn out due to wearing everyday during two winters in Korea. Super soft, great for skiing, hiking. I usually don't over-heat when I am skiing with these in the spring, they do a good job of not getting too hot. A lot of people have switched to Merino which is also good and now call this crap-a-lene. I think that is crazy, Patagonia still makes a good product.

TOASTY WARM !

These long underwear perform wonderfully. I was pleased with how they felt against my skin too. Very much worth the slight extra cost for a product that lives up to its hype.

Nothing to hide, literally.

My girlfriend enjoyed the fact that the fly had very little fabric overlapping the crotch area leaving me exposed to natures elements, that's good for my girlfriend, but not for an avid outdoor type like me.

mmmm warmth

I wear these on cool days touring or cold days as long underwear under my pants. They are warm and comfortable.

Steal them from your boy

I love these pants because they are made out of recycled materials and they are super warm. I'm tall so the men’s fit better than the women’s.
