Capilene???

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I ordered from Patagonia last year and was turned off of Capilene. The fly issue from the older version has obviously been resolved The lack of cuffs on their sleeves and legs is not what I want in clothing for the winter.
I was pleased with the bottoms though.
It seems an act of war on us; it took years of producing clothing with quality and a style that suited.

So far so good as rain pants liners

They feel great and they don't retain much heat. So far they do the job I bought them for, keeping my clammy Marmot Precip rainpants away from my skin without cooking me on a hot wet day. I'll revise this review when I've had a few more chances to use them.

Great under layer for warm weather

I bought these to wear under rain pants in hot weather. They feel good, roll up into a tiny ball and don't seem to retain much heat. I haven't sweated in them yet but they seem like they'd wick moisture well. The fly issue from the older version has obviously been resolved and everything is covered, though anatomy hugging. Quality seems high although they're so thin I'm worried about durability.

Live up to the hype

Capline is worth it. I've had other long johns and they just don't measure up to Capline 1. These are light, stretchy, and fitted for active people. They add just enough insulation for winter mountaineering and snowboarding under my (uninsulated) hardshell pants.

Won't hike without them...!!!

I bought my first pair of Pataongia Capilene 1 bottoms when I was hiking the Appalachian Trail. I bought them as an extra layer to deal with the cold weather. They turned out to be my best investment of the entire hike..!!
They work great by themself or under a pair of rain pants. They wick away moisture effiently and dry quickly. They fit great, and are very comfortable when I'm running or hiking. When I'm hiking I always them in my pack, they are great to sleep in on warm summer nights..!
