    Patagonia's biggest Black Hole.

If Patagonia built a black hole bigger than the Black Hole 120L Duffel Bag, then it would probably consume the earth. This Black Hole Duffel Bag, however, has enough space for all your climbing, skiing, hiking, or traveling gear for week-long trips. Inspired by rugged-yet-light alpine packs, the Black Hole features a burly ripstop fabric protected by a TPU laminate and coated with DWR. The padded base protects your gear throughout the trip, and Patagonia padded the removable shoulder strap and removable backpack straps for comfort. Internal organizers and zippered mesh pockets organize all the small things, while the external side pocket stows the duffel for compact storage. Compression straps prevent your gear from bouncing around whether you're traveling via airplane or a four-wheeler.

    One in Every Size

We now have one in every size. The backpack and the waterproof, durability of this bag makes it our new favorite bags! You cannot meet these bags. This size is because I am an over packer and needed a bigger bag for week long trips. Also love this for fitting all of our climbing equipment in one bag for a day climb with the family!

      Review from a customer

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

"Hey Eric, giving the Report on the black hole duffle. Left for hunting destination in the rain, 1 hour boat ride. When we got there the rain got steadier, but all the contents stayed dry. The zippered pockets were very convenient , especially the outside access to the inner pocket, a huge plus. Packed an enormous amount of gear and the zippers took all the abuse I could give them trying to close up. This bag exceeded all expectations, can't believe I got along without it all these years. Definitely a "10" rating. Thanks again. "

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used this bag on two excursions. A 7-day trip to Mt. Kilimanjaro and a 10-day trip to K2 Base Camp. It kept all my gear and snacks safe for the duration of the trips. In one word, solid!

      Backpack straps!

I love the backpack straps on this huge duffel bag! They make it way easier to drag this big bag through the airport on your back. The waterproof material also looks and feels really nice. My main praise about this bag is how big it is, I love that you can always squeeze in one more thing for your trip!

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This bag is perfect for a long trip packed full of gear, clothes, etc. Used this on a two week trip and had room to spare even with climbing gear, items for warm and cold weather and multiple pairs of shoes for hiking, climbing, beach, trail running. It's a great multi-activity type of travel bag. Sturdy, lightweight and the straps make it all super convenient.

        game changer

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I had purchased this bag because I am working at a camp for the summer and I wanted something that I could carry a bunch of my clothes and shoes in as well as my sleeping bag and towels. Lets just say this bag can carry it all and plus more! I find the name for this bag very fitting because of the size. The thing that I like most about this bag is that the shoulder straps are very handy.

        Eat it Mary Poppins!

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This bag is huge, awesome, AND sexy! It's light yet extremely tough. And it's patagucci! Lifetime warranty. Superior quality. Almost got the 90L. But for a little bit extra flow, who could pass up the extra 30L.

        Amazing bag

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Using this as my new suitcase. I love it! The main compartment is huge and the outside pocket is rather large, and you can access that pocket on the inside as well. The whole bag fits into that pocket, so it folds down well too. Overall I have zero complaints.

        Great all around bag

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I keep all my touring and resort setups in this bag so I don't have to think about gear until I'm putting stuff on in the parking lot. I can fit everything, including my one pair of boots, skins, several jackets, water, food, beacon, touring poles, and helmet. It doesn't quite fit my larger touring backpack or my resort poles. The straps keep everything fairly organized. The strap system is not the most comfortable especially with sharp items poking into your back but it's enough for getting it from house to car or car to lodge. I can also fit two pairs of my snow blades, my godzilla helmet cover and my one piece in here if I pack intelligently.

        Lives up to the definition!

        black hole

        1. A massive star in the last phase of its evolution, in which the star collapses, creating a volume of space-time with a gravitational field so intense that its escape velocity equals or exceeds that of light.

        2. A great void; an abyss:

This bag is just that. It doesn't come with directions, but if it did, it lives up to number 2. If I were to be the writer, they would state: 1) set on ground. 2) unzip. 3) fill bag, undlessly keep filling until you have no more gear to put inside of it. 4) wish you had more stuff to put inside of it

I have had this bag for quite awhile. There have been minor changes to the back pack straps, but other than that it does the job. The material is weather and water resistant which is nice for when you are off the grid. The back pack straps are incredibly useful for when you become a human pack mule hauling your gear to remote destinations, or just moving to a new state. The daisy chains help stack em up for when you have more than one so it helps when you have them strapped to a llama in a remote place. This bag lives up to its name. I highly recommend. If you want a better idea of what it can hold, feel free to send me an email or give me a call and I can give you a list that will make your eyes big. It holds more than you think and if I listed it all here this review would never end. An abyss

I like the TNF Base Camp More

        • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I was deciding between this back and a XL TNF Base Camp duffel. This one has some nice convenience features that the TNF bag doesn't, but I decided to go with the TNF bag. This bag didn't feel like it would be as durable and I didn't like how shiny it was. The advantages it has over the TNF Base Camp is more pockets, shoulder straps that can be moved a little bit faster (but not much), and a built-in storage bag. The fabric on this has a softer feel than the TNF bag, but that could be viewed as a pro or a con.

        Best Hauler Bag Ever.

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is the best travelling/hauler bag I have ever owned. I never take a suitcase anywhere anymore. On top of that it is Patagonia, so you can feel secure it the promise of great craftsmanship and customer service if anything happens to it. I'm in the Army, and I usually carry this bag with me to the field along with my issued rucksack in addition to my normal travels. The Black Hole has handled every condition thrown at it like a champion.

I was originally disappointed that this bag did not come with a shoulder strap. However, once I realized how much weight this bag can take, I realized why you need the backpack-style straps; I would have scoliosis in a heartbeat with a standard over-the-shoulder strap. With lighter loads the carrying handles snapped together are large enough to carry over a shoulder from a car or boat to a campsite, from a baggage carousel to a vehicle, etc...

I would estimate the max load I have ever put in my Black Hole bag is around 65 lbs. Now, I was careful to distribute to distribute the weight and didn't yank it around, but the bag handled the abuse with ease and it didn't feel like I was near its limits.

I lived for six weeks out of this bag once. My standard procedure is to pack this bag with everything I could possibly need for a trip, and then, since it still isn't full, add a smaller backpack (my choice is the MHM Switch 24) inside so that I can choose what I need for a day or two and go until I go back to my Black Hole for a refit. The limitation of the bag is that it is probably not the best choice if you are going to be moving long distances carrying it. Anything over a half kilometer and you are going to wish you had a real backpack on you, but under that you'll be glad to trade some comfort for the ability to move and contain massive amounts of stuff.

The water resistance works as long as the bag isn't out too long in a driving rain (water will get forced into the zippers and seams eventually), and doesn't smell or stain even if you store bunches of dirty clothes or boots in there for weeks.

        Best. Bag. Ever.

        • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

For years I've been torn about which expedition duffel to buy-- And hearing several reviews about the 'base-camp' duffel from TNF was leaning me towards its bomber construction. Finally went with the Black Hole bag-- And I cannot imagine a trip or any amount of use that would destroy this bag. Just as bomber as its competitors, and with amazing bright colors, this makes the perfect sled bag. I especially love the organizational pockets on top of the bag (inside the top flap), and the extra long duffel handles are easily slung over your back for a short carry through an airport or to your car, etc. Probably will be saving up to buy the smaller sizes as well (I bought the 120L)

Great Large Duffle for almost every Adventure

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Great Large Duffle for almost every Adventure. I bought this duffle for a hunting trip in northern Wisconsin to carry all of my outer layers including. Jackets, bibs, boots, hats, gloves, etc. This bag performed amazing and kept everything dry through the snow and sleet. I have also taken this duffle on many different camping trips in the Rockies of Colorado and it never disappoints. Great Large Duffle for almost every Adventure

What are the exact dimensions on this duffel, I see the capacity in liters but don't see any other dimensions.
