A little big but great

  • Familiarity:I've used it several times

It’s not waterproof but can handle a rain. The size is great for a long commute with your computer, sweater and a maybe cloth to the gym. If you are looking for only a computer bag, I would recommend a smaller version.

Pretty Perfect Pack

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I really like this backpack. It has all the features and design I was looking for in a medium sized backpack. I bought this pack to bike commute to work, which is 35 miles and up two canyons. I can fit my laptop, change of clothes and shoes, lunch, spare bike parts and some random essentials. My only hangups are that I wish the waist-belt was slightly bigger, and that it is not completely waterproof.

Overall it gets the job done and is an awesome pack.

Perfect for the school year.

  • Familiarity:I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave this to a friend for a gift and he loves it! He told me that the storage is ideal for all of his school supplies and that he keeps getting compliments on his bag nonstop. It is a larger bag and he carries his laptop, books and any other materials he needs in there.

So far so good

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I have had this pack for about 3 weeks now using it everyday for going to work and any other day activities I might do. So far this pack has been great with enough room to hold my 13" macbook pro, charger, and anything else I may need for the day. The organizer pockets are a bit small for my uses, but the front pocket is great for holding my small notebooks. The main issue that I have had with this pack is the zipper on top for the main compartment. It is not the easiest zipper to use if trying to zip up in a hurry, you for sure have to use both hands to get it to zip around the corners. But do not get me wrong the quality of this pack is like every other Patagonia product and it is amazing.

GOAT IS GOOD

Bought as an all purpose pack for travel, school and bike shopping. Same construction as the black hole duffels and since I’ve got a couple of those, thought I’d round out the collection with this pack. The weather proof fabric will keep contents protected enough in a short rain but I wouldn’t trust the zippers, seams etc to an extended downpour and expect the contents to come through bone dry. Looks good, can be over stuffed gear making extended carry uncomfortable but for getting home with groceries on a bike or schlepping through the airport when you’ve bought too much crap on a trip, it and my shoulders will take the grief. For hauling a computer and such around campus and to coffee shop, works splendid.

    Meh

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

This thing has the look of heavy duty water resistance, but in reality the rain will drip off for awhile, but after 15-20 minutes things inside start to see some moisture. The pocket on the top flap is where I'd put my wallet/phone/keys when hiking, but that seems to be the least water resistant spot. I ended up using it more as a travel bag for flying, but without side pockets for beverages that got annoying too. It's definitely built solid & can take some abuse, I just feel like there's some fundamental design flaws here for what it is.

    My Go-To Daypack

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I picked the Black Hole 35 to be my new every-day pack. It fits my 15" laptop, bike clothes & shoes, Nalgene bottle and lunch with room to spare. It's extremely durable and exceptionally comfortable on the back.

    It's a winner!

Cool look, decent build and ergonomics

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I took this to Europe as my carry on and it functioned fairly well except for a few instances. While shoving my dirty clothes in here leaving Berlin the rubber pull tab on the top zipper pulled right off. That sucked. When it is stuffed full the zippers aren't super easy to get closed or open. The lip over the zippers is annoying when trying to open / close the bag. While the shiny DWR might be waterproof the uncoated Polyester that covers much of the bag (like the entire bottom) is not. I find it to be pretty unnecessary to have the lip over the zippers. Aesthetic, but not functional.

Overall this bag is about the look and it looks great.

Water resistant, except from the top?

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I bike commute and the top pocket gets soaked every time it rains moderately hard. I think the water finds it's way in through the small pocket zipper on top, and depending on the duration of exposure, can saturate the entire bag. I started keeping a plastic bag in the top pocket, and then just stopped taking it out in the rain altogether, which was it's original appeal "...ultimate durability and water-resistance. Throw this pack on your back and forget about rain..." .
On the flip side, this is THE pack I choose for all my dry day adventure, it's comfortable, looks great, and is simple with just enough accessory options to stay organized.
    I just wish i didn't leak!

I HAVE A THING FOR BACKPACKS

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

So you have a bunch of different backpacks, but you never seem to have the one that is "just right." For me this is just right for a lot of things, and I am very pleased with the purchase. The laptop sleeve is legit, not an afterthought, but doesn't take up a lot of interior space when not in use. This is a great "race pack" for bike races, easily fitting a helmet, shoes, and kit items.

    My Go To!

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Purchased this pack because I needed a multi tasking pack. One for commuting to school and one for approaching climbs and or over nighters. This pack does it all!

PROS- Top loading main compartment. Zipper is stiff at first but relaxes over time. Everything is so organized and you can see into in perfectly..

Spacious external zipper pockets (2) They are much bigger than I though :)

Comfy straps and sits perfect on my back!

    Material is heavy duty!

there is a small clips to hold your lap top in the sleeve as well!

Cons- I currently don't have any haha! Maybe that I wish they made it in more colors :)

Its a must have piece of gear!

    high and dry

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I use this pack every day for various tasks almost always involving a boat or canoe so water is ever-present. Most folks up in northern mn canoe country use plastic liners to keep gear dry in their packs but this unit protects my cargo better than expected. The convenience of a day pack with ought the added hassle of a plastic liner is great.

    Does it all.

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I bought this a few months ago to use as a day pack on short camping trips and as a crag pack for sport climbing. It'll still be a couple of months until winter is over and I can use it for those activities, but it fits my 60m rope, 14 quickdraws, harness, chalkbag, and assorted small items easily. I clip the shoes to the exterior.

I've also started using it as a backpack for classes, and it's fantastic for this use. When it's snowing heavily and getting wet when the snow melts, it keeps my stuff dry. It holds my ridiculous number of textbooks with ease, and the large opening makes for easy access.

I expect this pack and I to have a long and fruitful relationship.

Is the black version made out of two different fabrics? It looks like it in the picture whereas the other colors do not.
