What is the center back length of a medium?

One is never enough!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Love this pullover.

Anyone used this backpacking?

Yeah, it's a solid choice because it's such a well-made piece of gear. The Better Sweater is warm and great for mornings/evenings at camp. I appreciate the soft zipper garage when it is really cold.

1 caveat: I miss having a kangaroo pocket a lot around camp. I've been thinking about getting the Patagonia Re-Tool Snap-T because it has a kangaroo pocket. I tried one on the other day and the fit is comparable.

Your new security blanket is a sweater

God created the Better Sweater, because it is a true gift to us! I pretty much call any of my Patagonia jackets/sweaters my security blankets and don't take them off October thru April. It is super cozy, but for the hot-natured it might be too much to wear a shirt under it. If you're going to wash it, do a gentle cycle and light tumble dry or hang it up, so as to prevent little fuzzies building on the inside fleece. If you're a little busty the fitted sizing may not be as comfortable as our smaller chested friends, but I wear it anyway. My only wish is that they would put either a kangaroo pocket or regular side pockets along with the existing one on the sleeve. Happy wintering!

Better Sweater is the Best Sweater

These things are so ridiculously comfortable. I wish they were a little more affordable because it's the kind of thing I'd love to have in every color. The inside is soft, it's like wearing a puppy without going all Cruella DeVille on some dalmatians.
Updated Fit Notes: My first 2 Better Sweaters were XL's, I'm 5' tall and I was 175ish. At that weight/height ratio, the sleeves were a bit long. I'm at 128lbs now and wearing a small, the sleeves are perfect. I like the fit but I'd say I'm right at the edge of needing a medium.
I wear mine to the office a lot in the winter. I think it's perfect for snowshoeing; the 1/4 zip allows for ventilation and I stay warm without roasting.
These tops are so popular that they sell on ebay for close to retail price even when used. I can't imagine getting rid of mine. I get compliments on them every time I wear them. I'll be sad when I inevitably stain them or something but the silver lining is being able wear them hunting or working outside. I'd live in these in the winter if I could afford to.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I just received my better sweater in the mail yesterday and am SO pleased with the color and fit of the piece. I had this item in black from last season and decided to upgrade once I saw the new colors. I got the Bear Brown and the color is true to what is pictured here. The inside is perfectly warm and cozy and the material inside and out cannot be beat in softness. This will be my new go-to for a chilly evening or even a snowy day!
A note about sizing: this year's version feels more fitted than last year's. I am always a size medium and I cannot fit more than a skin-hugging shirt underneath this sweater. This is fine for me, since I plan on it being my outer layer, but if you want to wear something a little bulkier underneath, size up.

My wife lost her 1/4 zip Patagonia Jacket that she had owned for 15 years. This is a great update. It fits well and is very warm.

Warm and fitted!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this a few years ago and it has been a go to piece ever since.

Pros: It's is an excellent layering piece, due to its slim fit small layers can be worn beneath and you still have room for more layers on top. The fit is great for outdoor activities, running errands in town, or casual get-togethers with friends.

Con: The material pilled after a couple of times through the wash. It doesn't pack down very small.

I bought one in black few years ago and absolutely fell in love with it. Very soon I was wearing it to the gym, running errands and etc. it is stylish and with a pair of jeans you can wear it to a casual dinner too.

Great mid-layer!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This fleece is really nice for layering if you're out on the mountain! I've worn it on pretty cold mornings with just a light base-layer underneath and my shell jacket. Super warm fleece. (I also tend to get pretty warm when skiing, so I never wear a lot of layers) It's also a great fleece for snowshoeing!

It is more form fitting so if you prefer a baggier fleece for more layering, I'd recommend going up a size. I'm 5'3" about 110lbs and got this in a small but like I said, just something light underneath is enough for me.

Love it! Highly recommend!!

I love this pullover because it can be used in spring/fall and as a layer during winter! Has always kept me warm, and is fitted so not too baggy. 5'2, 120lbs and small fits great! Also love the sleeve pocket, great for storing chap stick when wearing yoga pants or anything else that doesn't have pockets!

Patagonia 1/4-Zip Better Sweater Rocks!

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift

My girlfriend is rockin' in this fleece sweater (jacket?). She usually leans towards more muted colors (blacks, greys, browns) but really likes the blue (because it really "pops" against a black and white background?). Other jacket compliments: warmth / slim fit / arm pocket / fabric (they've really figured out how to make polyester fleece feel like cotton/cotton-blend). Recommended.

I'm 5'5'' and 125lbs. Would like to be able to wear this sweater on top of Cap3 or Cap4. Should I go with a small or medium?

I'm 5'6" and 140 lbs. I got a small and it fits perfectly. I would imagine you would be fine with a small but no guarantees.
