Patagonia Baggies Shorts - Women's - 2007 BCS

I got my first pair as I prepared for my NOLS trip back in 1997. Of course everyone else showed up with their own pair. But for a month in the Winds and many more trips after that, these shorts did the job. Maybe not the best-looking short in the world, but for any type of hiking trip of any length, this is a great short. It's kind of fun to see what colors people will have. These multi-purpose shorts do not disappoint. They are great for hiking, water sports, running, and look good enough for casual wear. The fabric, though thin and light, is extremely durable. Unlike some Patagonia products, these are not water resistant, but dry quickly. I have no doubt that the very high quality construction will be very long-lasting.

The secret is out among my friends. Baggies, by far, are the best shorts I own. Feel free to do anything in these shorts. Built to withstand a lot. Baggies get my approval.

After hearing great things about these shorts I ordered a pair for running, hiking, & paddling. When they arrived, I was worried because the material felt more stiff than I imagined & the fabric seemed see-through thin. BUT...I was pleasantly surprised. The stiffer fabric is extremely comfortable, lightweight, and is what makes them durable. The fabric was not see-through at all (I can't vouch for this if they're wet, though). I expect to get years of wear from these. They fit true to size. I am typically between a small/medium and a medium fits with a little extra room in the waist/hips without falling down.

The first pair of Patagonia Baggies I owned were bought in 1999 before I went on a NOLS trip to the Absorka Mtn. Range in Wyoming. A lovely shade of sea-green, not only did they survive 28 days in backcountry without being washed (swimming in rivers doesn't technically count) but they made it 6 years and 1 warranty repair. I finally retired them early this year when I picked up some pairs. These continue to be my favorite short for hiking, running-- everything. I bought a couple of men's ones a few years ago, but the lining is irrating and the pockets aren't as nice. The lines on the back are also much nicer on the women's design.
