Stuff your towel and a good novel in your backpack and head to the beach in the Patagonia Women's Baggies Short. This classic piece has been around as a comfortable do-anything short since Patagonia's beginning. Mesh pockets and quick-dry nylon mean you won't stay wet for long if you decide to splash around in the surf. Patagonia designed the regular-fit Baggies Short with vertical pockets so they won't snag on paddles if you wear them river rafting. Since the short is so light and comfy, it works well for the occasional hike or trail run too.
Bottom Line: This short's up for anything; even so, don't feel guilty if all you do is relax in it.
Baggies are a staple for me. I had one pair for 10+ years, split the back seam and sent them to Patagonia to repair - I was more than willing to pay for it - and they sent me a brand new pair!!! Love dealing with reliable companies like this!! The fabric in the newer shorts may not feel as durable as the older fabric, but I've had no issues with them. They really are great shorts!
Baggies are awesome. They are great for running, playin' a little ultimate or just lounging. They come clean even when caked in dirt and they dry in a snap. Since they are 'baggies' - beware of unintentional exposure - anyone else have this problem? I still highly recommend these shorts - they're great.
I had two pair of these shorts for 15 years. The shorts never wore out, although the elastic in the waist finally did. I still wore them using the drawstring though. I finally decided to get some new ones, and the new style/cut is much improved over the old ones from the 90's. These are great for running, hiking, kayaking and other water sports, or just hanging out. Highly recommended.

these have an elastic waist. Yes you can wear them swimming. They have more of a running short fit than a boardshort fit. But are perfect if you are kinda mixing lots of hiking and swimming together.
As with most patagonia gear, these are well thought out shorts. Comfortable, quick drying, deep pockets. The size is true. I have long legs and baggies run short not, that it matters much on the river. You'll be happy with the purchase.
Running in these would be my least favorite use for them, although it certainly can be done. Tennis, hiking, rafting, gardening, hanging out around town...These shorts are great for everything and look nicer than many other shorts. One word of caution - Patagonia does has changed the style of these. I happen to like the current style best as the elastic is looser and there is a more relaxed feel to the fabric.
I have worn PATAGONIA BAGGIES for all activities: running, exercise, white water, etc.... BUT, especially LOVE them for tennis! They are lightweight, non binding, AND the pockets each hold 3 - 4 balls for serve practice and warm-up. Love the patterns- they are so darned cute and the black makes a superb competition outfit... serious tourney uniform!! I have a drawer full as does my husband. They also last forever but I always MUST have the new prints & colors!
i bought these for my girlfriend for our anniversary. she says they feel great! she's been running and biking in them and says they don't chaffe around the inner thigh, which she has had problems with other shorts in the past. needless to say she is very happy with 'em.
I had a pair of patagonia baggies when I was a kid, which was then passed down through 3 sisters and various cousins, and still looked good ten years later. Baggies are great for hiking, running, rafting, lounging, playing in the water feature at the playground...you name it. They dry in a minute, especially if you invest in some patagonia wicking underwear.
These shorts are great since i bought them I've worn them hiking, running, swimming, and just haning out. I love that they have pockets are comfy and dry really fast.
