    A classic reborn.

Patagonia's Arbor Backpack kind of looks like your grandpa's backpack, so you know you can rely on its durable longevity. Apart from its classic construction and long-lasting design, the Arbor also features a padded laptop sleeve to keep up with modern times, and Patagonia's highly effective DWR coating should keep the computer safe in rainy weather. You can always switch out your laptop with your hiking gear when adventure calls, and the Human Curve shoulder straps conform to your shoulders and chest for maximum comfort from the trailhead to the trail's end.

    Keep it Simple!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great pack overall. The design/aesthetic is amazing, and because it is Patagonia, you know it will last forever. I got this in the Forestland/Black colorway, and it has to be one of the coolest graphics ever put on a backpack. The laptop sleeve makes for secure transport of the all so important computer, and there is quite a bit of pocket space for other various items. Only drawback is the lack of a waterbottle holder!

    Needs pockets

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was hoping to take this bag on a trip but ended up returning it because it doesn't have enough pockets or a place for a water bottle. There is only one small pocket on the outside that is awkwardly under the buckle for the top flap. It would be very hard to access something quickly from this bag if you are travelling. There is also no dedicated pocket on the side for a bottle, which is very surprising for a bag from Patagonia. This would be a great school bag or casual bag, but if you need something with function, there are probably better options.

    Nice simple design!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great simply designed backpack! Used it for a trip to Colorado for traveling and day trips and hikes! Roomy large compartment, with key zippered pockets on front and inside top flap. Bought it for my husband and he loves the bright green color because it stands out in the airport or other crowded places.

    Great Look, Very Simple

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a really cool, retro aesthetic and the color schemes are sweet. I also really like the material that is used for the bag.

I must say it's a very simple bag. Some might like that, but personally, I prefer a few more pockets/organization features. As a nontechnical bag, meant for urban use, it seems like there could be some mesh pockets or something to put keys, wallet, pens, etc. There is a lapstop sleeve on the inside and then one large internal space. The lid has one large zippered pocket (because it's large it's not great for small items because they jostle around and get mixed up). And the front has a similar large zippered pocket.
I think with the addition of a smaller, hanging, zippered, internal mesh pocket, and a water bottle sleeve (either inside or outside of bag), this would be a 5 star item

    Great pack for light use

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I've been using this pack for a few months for light weight use and it works perfectly for my work commute. I made the mistake of taking it on a weekend work trip with a heavier load and trekking all over the city with it -- huge mistake. This pack fits a lot but does not distribute weight well on my small frame. Next time I'll be sure to bring my Patagonia black hole for all day city exploring.

    So happy together

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have had this back pack for about a month now and we are inseparable. We go everywhere together. With the lifestyle I lead I tend to wear things out quickly but this guy seems like he will outlast me. I can't wait to take him to the Rockies! It also proves to be water proof. I have been living in Hawaii and it's endured ocean and rain quite well.

old school style, modern day function

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've only known this pack for a couple weeks, but I look forward to the long life we are going to spend together. Have you owned a Patagonia backpack before? I promise you, they make all other packs seem inferior. They are truly built like tanks, and can take a lifetime of beatings and hard play.

I love the throwback look of the Arbor Backpack--old school style with modern day function. This pack is a great option for all kinds of activities. I'm a nursing student, and have pounds and pounds and pounds of books--the main compartment is HUGE, and I can really load it up, and keep my laptop in it's own separate sleeve, and then easily close it up with the drawstring. The sleeves are padded and comfortable. There is an outside zipper pocket, and a small zipper pocket on the inside of the top flap--perfect for keys, snacks, headlamp, whatever you need.

This would make a great day pack with a lighter load (not sure a heavier load would distribute well after a few hours on the trail)--it's big enough to carry a jacket and a days worth of food and water. It would be easy to slip a bladder into the laptop sleeve, and bring the straw out through the top. I've found it perfect for my climbing bag--jacket, shoes, chalk bag and I'm off to the bouldering gym.

    Perfect Day Pack

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I use this pack for traveling, work, day trips, basically every time I need to carry something. This pack has enough room to carry groceries, a lap top, clothing, and whatever else I need in my day to day.

The waist straps are a waste of material and I have cut them off, otherwise I would recommend this to anyone who need a good go to backpack.

    Great pack

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I was looking for a backpack for work that served to carry my laptop, spare clothes, lunch and anything else I needed for the day. The pack does everything asked of it and more. I emptied all my business contents out when I was in Yosemite a couple weeks ago and the pack works great for both long approaches and multi pitch climbs. This bad boy was easy to carry up half dome via snake dike. The pack has a simple build, one external pocket, one under lid pocket, and a spacious main compartment with a laptop or hydration pack slot nestled against the back padding. The pack offers a great vintage look with modern materials and continues to feel refined despite the obvious hefty build quality. I only wish I had messed around with so many rei flash packs before picking this guy up.

    Awesome Pack

I bought two of these one each for my kids in junior high and high school. They love the packs and they can accommodate everything they need. They can go easily from school, to the trails for after school hiking. Personally I would choose a more technical pack for day hikes but they love these. My only wish is that one of the pockets had a key attachment. I suppose this missing is to go along with the retro and simple design.

Does this pack have a hydration port? If not can the laptop sleeve be used as one?

      Hi Kyla,

Thanks for the question. Although this pack is not designed to be hydration compatible, I think you could easily accommodate a hydration bladder inside. Because of the fold over way the pack closes, you could run the hose through either side. The only modification you may have to do is get a small carabiner to hold the top vertical, which you could just attach to the webbing closure for the lap top. Let me know if you have any more questions about this pack or anything else on the site. Lisa ledlund@backcountry.com
