The look of a sweater with the feel of a fleece.

When you want the heat-trapping power of fleece, but you don’t want to look like a wooly bugger, reach for the Men’s Patagonia 1/4-Zip Better Sweater. It has a knit exterior for a clean, sharp look and a fleecy, heat-holding interior. It is warm enough to wear as a jacket in cool weather, or when things get really chilly, you can wear it under a shell as a mid-layer. Raglan sleeves lend to the athletic aesthetic and keep you comfortable when you’re slinging a pack.

    Very warm and stylish

    • Fit:True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

Very comfy, very warm, and stylish to boot. Really a solid product from Patagonia. The quality is worth the price. I found it a bit tight in the chest but otherwise it is true to size. Im 6ft, 185 and the XL fit me great.

    Great sweater

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times
    • Fit:True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I am 6 feet tall and skinny. The medium fits me great. Super soft material. Great sweater for everyday use in the winter. I personally do not layer with it but if that's what you are looking for you might consider sizing up to fit layers underneath.

    Layer me Timbers

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit:True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

Have one of these puppies in the two tone blue color Patagonia makes and it is sweet. I wear it as a stylish piece and also as a mid-layer underneath my ski jacket or underneath my fishing waders.

You wont hear any complaints from me regarding the better sweater collection, it functions as so much more than just a traditional fleece jacket. It is stylish, warm, and comes from a great company that is looking out for what we love most, the outdoors.

It is a bit tight in the chest so I wouldn't recommend layering a bunch under this, as that is what it's not meant for. A short sleeve, a thin long sleeve, or a light collared shirt underneath is really all you need.

    Not my most functional sweater

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit:True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I love this sweater for everything except rigorous outdoor activities. It looks great but as far as functionality as a tool to keep you warm, it's not the best. If there's wind, it might as well not even be there. It also is kind of shaped like a cone, wide at the bottom and narrower at the top so it lets cold air right in around the waist and has no draw cord to cinch it up. It works decently well for layering under a coat but the wrists are kind of loose and there's no elastic to close them which can make them ride up your arms. If you're just trying to look good, then this sweater is great but if you're looking to stay warm on the mountain, you should probably look somewhere else. As a little plus though, the build quality is amazing. I have friends that have owned these sweaters for years and worn them all the time and they still look new.

Great Sweater with long Arm Length

    • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit:True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I've been a Patagonia fan for years, because of the price/quality ratio of their gear, and the simple fact that, for years, Patagonia gear fits athletic men with longer than average arms, bigger chests, and smaller waists.

Recently, some of their jackets (Down Sweater, I'm looking at you) have represented a bipolar approach to their gear. No longer is their sizing consistent. A medium in one jacket may be too small, or, critically, have sleeves that are too short for climbing/reaching or layering.

This sweater is more closely sized according to Patagonia tradition. There's plenty of room in the shoulders, the waist allows for some layering, and, most importantly, the sleeves are generous.

Now, I recognize that I am a man with a broad chest and longer than average arms––so for folks with more normal proportions, this sweater's sleeves may be too long. But I much prefer having a little more wiggle room than having sleeves on Patagonia's down line which are simply too short. Nothing is worse than having a jacket's sleeves that slide up to your elbows!

All that aside, this is a comfortable and suave looking non-technical layer. It's not a piece you wear skiing, but rather a piece you wear AFTER skiing, out to apres ski, drinks with friends, or a work occasion. And it does those things remarkably well.

    Xmas gift for husband

    • Fit:Runs small
    • Size Bought: ex-large

My husband loves it. He wears a large to extra large. I got him
extra large and unlike what another review said, I would say it
ran a little small. It's a little snug on the shoulders and upper chest.

The quality is great, it's warm and the "navy" color ( closer to
    a blue-gray) looks good.

    Comfy sweater, runs large

    • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it
    • Fit:Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium

Was on the fence whether to get a size medium or small... Got the medium and ended up being too big. If you prefer an athletic fit, I would recommend going to a smaller size. The sweater was very comfortable when I wore it around the house trying it on for size. Would have definitely exchanged this for a smaller size sweater, but couldn't fine the combination of size and color I was looking for.

Best sweater I have ever owned !!

I bought the Better sweater on sale for around 70 $ and haven't looked back since. Im 5'9 and weight 160 lbs. I bought the large and it has a little extra room underneath to fit an extra layer when the temps begin to drop significantly.Works perfect for those chilly fall days and even as an insulating layer when those nasty winter storms roll in.Will defiantly be buying another one

      Unparalleled Function & Beauty

      • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit:True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium

The following are the reasons why I am obsessed with my Patagonia Better Sweater:
      1. It's incredibly comfy
      2. I can be dressed up or worn casually - I use it with Khakis and a dress shirt one day and sweat pants the next.
      3. Fit is NEARLY perfect (I have an athletic build and would prefer a slightly tighter bottom, but I can look past that)
      4. Durable- I've worn it 2-3x weekly in fall-winter months the past two years and the sweater looks as good as the day I got it. It's traveled with me on several camping/backpacking trips to Colorado, Utah and Arizona as well as hikes throughout Wisconsin. Not a single complaint about the stitching, zipper, nada -- it's strait up quality.
      5. Great value - I purchased this on sale for $68, and that's unbelievably worth it with the amount I have worn it and the quality it displays.

Overall, I have no complaints about the Better Sweater, just lots and lots of compliments. I am eyeing up sales to make my next purchase of the full zip in another color to make me feel less guilty about wearing the same outfit back-to-back days.

This sweater is better than most

      • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit:True to size

This is way better than a normal sweater, its a better sweater. Its warm and light weight and plenty comfortable. I use it as a layering piece, but if its not windy then this is enough to keep me warm.

      Excellent Quality

This sweater/shirt will not disappoint. Excellent quality, durability, and style. I plan on buying another in a different color, and a vest when the season is right for it. Shipping was fast (free 2 day!!!) Great company. No regrets!

        Patagonia Better Sweater 1/4 zip

        • Familiarity:I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
        • Fit:True to size
        • Size Bought: Large

First, the shipping was so fast! The product is awesome and my husband said the pullover is so warm but not bulky. It's perfect over all of his work, dress shirts because while it's casual it can be dressed up! We love it and this company so much we just ordered another one for me (his wife) in the vest! We will be repeat customers, you can't find this selection of Patagonia just anywhere! We've looked!

        Great Product!

        • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit:True to size
        • Size Bought: XL

I've had this 1/4-zip better sweater by Patagonia in the stone-wash color for over two years now! It's really well made and it fits perfectly! The zippers have never failed or even gotten stuck once. Mine is very well broken in now because I wear it into the backcountry hiking, camping, scouting, and even hunting and it has only gotten better with wear! Obviously, not very water repellent because of the soft shell but throw a quality rain jacket over it and you'll have a very warm and waterproof combination! Wear mine in the snow three months out of the year! Can't say enough about how great this product is! You'll have zero regrets!

        Very Comfortable

        • Familiarity:I've used it several times
        • Fit:True to size
        • Size Bought: XL

This is probably one of the most comfortable piece of insulating clothing I have bought. The inside is super soft and feels great against the skin. I like the fit, the arms are long enough (which is very hard for me to find) but the torso is slightly short, nothing to complain about too much though. The stitching and zippers seem like they are of very high quality. Great piece of clothing, simple as that.

        My dad loves it!

        • Familiarity:I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
        • Fit:True to size

I bought this for my dad as a gft and he won't take it off! I ended buying him another color to give him so variety :) I highly recommend this for any dad, boyfriend, or husband out there! I would also recommend and woman to buy the women's version of the Better Sweater!! I have a couple myself and they're so comfortable!!

        Great value

        • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
        • Fit:Runs large
        • Size Bought: medium

I've had a Patagonia Better Sweater for 6+ years. I wear it all year long and it still looks like new. I bought this one to incorporate into my annual layering collection based on the high quality of my first better sweater. The sizing has changed a little since my first better sweater, I would say this fits a little big. I am typically between a medium and large, and I am a solid medium in this garment. I get lots of compliment son this pull over and it feels great. It's perfect for a warm layer in the fall.
