The look of a sweater with the feel of a fleece.

When you want the heat-trapping power of fleece, but you don’t want to look like a wooly bugger, reach for the Men’s Patagonia 1/4-Zip Better Sweater. It has a knit exterior for a clean, sharp look and a fleecy heat-holding interior. It is warm enough to wear as a jacket in cool weather, but when things get really chilly, you can wear it under a shell as a midlayer. Raglan sleeves lend to the athletic aesthetic and keep you comfortable when you’re slinging a pack across campus or to a remote hot spring.

    • A well-rounded fleece for everyday wear in town and in the mountains
    • Sweater-knit face with fleece interior with heathered yarns
    • Dyed with low-impact processes to reduce the use of dyestuffs
    • Quarter-zip pullover design with stand-up collar
    • Raglan sleeves promote mobility and remain comfortable under a pack
    • Flat-seam construction reduces bulk and helps prevent chafing
    • Classic regular fit with shape-holding trim at cuffs and hem

Too wide and long at bottom

    • Size Bought: XL

This is a lovely knit sweater with fleece on the inside. Bought it for my husband but when he tried it on, it was just far too big around his hips - he is 6" tall and a little over 200lbs, so it isn't that he is skinny - the pullover is just cut very boxy. We are very sorry it didn't fit as the quality is nice.

    My new go-to

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

This 1/4 zip is on point. Its the first piece of Patagonia I've owned, and I love it. Its warm, the material feels great, and it looks sharp. I bought a large, and it fits me well. Maybe a little "baggy" or "loose" around my lower back, but not enough for me to care. Love this thing, i wear it all the time.

    Wide in the middle

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium

I am 5'9" 150lb and I bought a medium. The length at the arms and legs were good, but the width was too wide at the middle. I am not super skinny, but the sweater was just too wide for me.

    Stylish shirt/great for layering

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: L

I use this for layering when hiking or skiing. Also looks great over a button down. good looking pull over well made as usual with Patagonia

    Boyfriend's Review

    • Size Bought: Small

Originally bought a Medium and it was a bit boxy and long for my stature. Exchanged for a small and fits me much better in the arm length and chest. It's a regular fit so if you like things more snug I suggest going down a size.

    patagonia better sweater

    • Size Bought: medium

This is a real sharp fleece and the fit is great. I also like Patagonia better than the NF fleece. It seems to be a bit dressier also and better fleece Have not used yet but will get a lot .

    AMAZING!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Size Bought: Extra Large

This is a great fleece. It looks good, its extremely warm, and is built with a tremendous quality! Its great for those chilly early Colorado spring mornings up in the mountains!

    Just a super pullover

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL

You always need a 'go to' pullover that you wear every day of winter (while the other 10 pullovers sit in your closet)...this is the one. Really comfy fleece on the inside but a nice sweater looking finish on the outside so it always looks just a tad smarter than fleece. The size may run just a slight tad small maybe. I am usually a large but I got the extra large as I like my pullovers loose and roomy.

    Keeps me warm!!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

It fits well, I bought a large and the sleeves are admittedly a little long, but nothing too dramatic! There was some loose stitching on the right side cuff but I fixed it in a jiffy, no problem so far!

The day I got it was super cold in the evening, I was outdoors the whole time walking around and it kept me nice and warm, no complaints there!

I am happy with this sweater, it looks really nice, it keeps you warm like a fleece is supposed to, but doesn't look like a fleece! Top product from Patagonia once again!

    Very warm and stylish

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

Very comfy, very warm, and stylish to boot. Really a solid product from Patagonia. The quality is worth the price. I found it a bit tight in the chest but otherwise it is true to size. Im 6ft, 185 and the XL fit me great.

    Great sweater

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I am 6 feet tall and skinny. The medium fits me great. Super soft material. Great sweater for everyday use in the winter. I personally do not layer with it but if that's what you are looking for you might consider sizing up to fit layers underneath.

Hi you have the exact same weight and height with me. So if you don't mind, can I ask you if you are more muscular side of skinny or normal build skinny? I'm trying to find a good size for me. Several previous purchases of Patagonia pieces have been somewhat disappointing in regards to sizing.

    Layer me Timbers

Have one of these puppies in the two tone blue color Patagonia makes and it is sweet. I wear it as a stylish piece and also as a mid-layer underneath my ski jacket or underneath my fishing waders.

You wont hear any complaints from me regarding the better sweater collection, it functions as so much more than just a traditional fleece jacket. It is stylish, warm, and comes from a great company that is looking out for what we love most, the outdoors.

It is a bit tight in the chest so I wouldn't recommend layering a bunch under this, as that is what it's not meant for. A short sleeve, a thin long sleeve, or a light collared shirt underneath is really all you need.

    Not my most functional sweater

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I love this sweater for everything except rigorous outdoor activities. It looks great but as far as functionality as a tool to keep you warm, it's not the best. If there's wind, it might as well not even be there. It also is kind of shaped like a cone, wide at the bottom and narrower at the top so it lets cold air right in around the waist and has no draw cord to cinch it up. It works decently well for layering under a coat but the wrists are kind of loose and there's no elastic to close them which can make them ride up your arms. If you're just trying to look good, then this sweater is great but if you're looking to stay warm on the mountain, you should probably look somewhere else. As a little plus though, the build quality is amazing. I have friends that have owned these sweaters for years and worn them all the time and they still look new.

Great Sweater with long Arm Length

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I've been a Patagonia fan for years, because of the price/quality ratio of their gear, and the simple fact that, for years, Patagonia gear fits athletic men with longer than average arms, bigger chests, and smaller waists.

Recently, some of their jackets (Down Sweater, I'm looking at you) have represented a bipolar approach to their gear. No longer is their sizing consistent. A medium in one jacket may be too small, or, critically, have sleeves that are too short for climbing/reaching or layering.

This sweater is more closely sized according to Patagonia tradition. There's plenty of room in the shoulders, the waist allows for some layering, and, most importantly, the sleeves are generous.

Now, I recognize that I am a man with a broad chest and longer than average arms––so for folks with more normal proportions, this sweater's sleeves may be too long. But I much prefer having a little more wiggle room than having sleeves on Patagonia's down line which are simply too short. Nothing is worse than having a jacket's sleeves that slide up to your elbows!

All that aside, this is a comfortable and suave looking non-technical layer. It's not a piece you wear skiing, but rather a piece you wear AFTER skiing, out to apres ski, drinks with friends, or a work occasion. And it does those things remarkably well.

    Xmas gift for husband

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: ex-large

My husband loves it. He wears a large to extra large. I got him
extra large and unlike what another review said, I would say it
ran a little small. It's a little snug on the shoulders and upper chest.

The quality is great, it's warm and the "navy" color ( closer to
    a blue-gray) looks good.

    Comfy sweater, runs large

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: Medium

Was on the fence whether to get a size medium or small... Got the medium and ended up being too big. If you prefer an athletic fit, I would recommend going to a smaller size. The sweater was very comfortable when I wore it around the house trying it on for size. Would have definitely exchanged this for a smaller size sweater, but couldn't fine the combination of size and color I was looking for.

Best sweater I have ever owned !!

I bought the Better sweater on sale for around 70 $ and haven't looked back since. Im 5'9 and weight 160 lbs. I bought the large and it has a little extra room underneath to fit an extra layer when the temps begin to drop significantly.Works perfect for those chilly fall days and even as an insulating layer when those nasty winter storms roll in.Will defiantly be buying another one
