Not a fan of pipe cutters

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I like using the hacksaw guide as I think it leaves a better cut than a pipe cutter. In the past when I've used a pipe cutter I've gotten a raised edge that needed to be filed down, and was more of a hassle than cleaning up the edge the hacksaw left. It does take a bit more to make sure you line up your cut correctly, but some care this should be the last guide you need to purchase.

    cuts!

This tool is a little messy and you get cuttings everywhere when you use a hacksaw. Stuff you don't wont mingling with your sanctions and seals. It does do a great job except for the mess and and is very will made.

I have to agree with Scott on using pipe cutters
    http://www.backcountry.com/birzman-tubing-cutter is a great tool

Liked it until I discovered pipe cutters

If you have a carbon steerer this will not apply to you, you should get this thing and love it.

If you have all alu steerers as I do, this thing will work fine. It'll give you a reasonably clean and even cut. I prefer using a good pipe cutter to this, though, and then filing the lip down as it will get an even cleaner and more even cut.

Whatever you do don't free-hand it, that'll turn out crappy. This thing works, it's just for alu steerers a pipe cutter works better.
