If you happen to see a shop's workspace, chances are pretty good that Park Tool's CT-3.2 Screw Type Chain Tool is occupying coveted pegboard space. The combination of effective mechanical practices and utilitarian design have made this chain tool a shop staple, and a home mechanic favorite.

It's compatible with 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10-speed chains and features a loosening shelf to free stiff links common with chain assembly. The body is constructed from cast steel and the precision screw features replaceable pins to extend the CT-3.2 Screw Type Chain Tool's usable life. For comfort, the T-handle is coated with rubber in the signature Park Tool blue.

    Can't loosen stuck links

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

This chain tool doesn't have the second "shelf" or "fence" closer to the screw side that is used for loosening stuck links. It only has one sliding one to accommodate a variety of chain sizes. It can break chains, but if you try to put one back together it will squeeze the outer plates too close together, causing a stuck link. The second fence is normally used to push the plates apart slightly until the link bends as expected. This tool is useless in my opinion.

It looks like they have room to add a second fence on the sliding fence, so maybe they could update the design and make it work.

    Like all Park tools-works great

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've tried repairing chains with the chain tool on my multi-tool and on a small unit by another manufacturer-always struggled. Finally broke down and bought this baby-no struggles any more-drives a pin out effortlessly. I've used on both 10 and 11 speed Sram and Shimano. Hard to go wrong with Park tools.

Reliable, solid addition to the toolbox

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Sure, the Park Tools products aren't cheap, but they do the job very well, are reliable and last; which must be why I find a growing number of them amongst my collection.

Only used this on Shimano 10 speed chains, but this does the job very nicely.
