The four-season Pacific Outdoor Equipment Insulmat Hyper-High MTN Sleeping Pad features a slightly thicker design and an Aspen Aerogel insert for improved heat retention during subzero alpine adventures. A mummy shape reduces bulk and saves space and weight in your pack. How does this pad compare comfort wise to the Neoair or Insulated
How does this pad compare comfort wise to the Neoair or Insulated Air Core from BA? I am looking for a good mummy shaped option that will fit in my Big Agnes bag.

I use this pad in the high Cascades here in the NW and find it very comfortable. Though, it is not like a BA Air Core as it only has an air chamber in gel insert (the hourglass looking shape) and the rest of the pad is closed-cell foam. The foam has a thickness of approx. 3/4 an inch and the insert when filled with air has a thickness of 1.5 inches.
This is a high altitude alpine/mountaineering pad and has insulation properties you will not find in lower end pads, like the BA, though may not be as comfortable. I have never been uncomfortable sleeping on it, though generally it is a it less comfortable in some ways than my old ThermaRest. However, I'd choose this for the construction, insulation, weight and size on any trip whether a single night or a few weeks on the PCT.

Nicely constructed pad, foam padding is right thickness and seems durable enough to survive through years of tough usage. The Aerogel insert provides great insulation, used in Missouri a few weeks back when the low was -4 F and was fine in my 20 F Sierra Designs down bag. The following night was a little warmer and I used my old Thermarest for an hour, not surprisingly became quite cold and went back to this pad so I could get some sleep. This is certainly a great alpine pad, it is lightweight, leak-proof and insulates very well. My long bag (6'6") hangs off a little but not a real issue so far. Taking this into the Cascades during the next few weeks, more to come concerning continued performance.

Great functionality with this mat as it combines self inflating and foam mat all in one product. Save on weight as no longer need to carry both. Haven't used it yet for winter camping as we're currently in summer.
