The Pacific Outdoor Equipment Ether Thermo 6 Sleeping Pad reaches the much sought-after balance between light weight and insulation. This mat provides warmth and cushioning for three seasons, and it practically disappears in your pack. The plush Air-loft Thermo cushioning consists of non-shifting inflated tubes, providing plenty of comfort and insulation in a super packable size. P.O.E gave the Either Thermo 6 a tapered shape to shave weight and fit nicely with your mummy sleeping bag.

Bottom Line: The Pacific Outdoor Equipment Ether Thermo 6 Sleeping Pad provides packable warmth and support for three seasons of camping.

Best pad ever

By:
January 17, 2010

I can't say enough about this pad. It's light, compact, and incredibly comfortable. I upgraded from a thin foam pad, and it's great not having to worry about little bumps and rocks keeping you up all night. It's quick and easy to inflate. The stuff sack seems to be a little bit bigger than it needs to be. I always put a couple of rubber bands around the pad to keep it from unrolling inside the sack. I thought the big ridges would be weird to sleep on at first, but it actually helps to keep you from sliding off (the pad is slightly narrow, but that keeps weight down). I've used mine for almost a year now, and I have no regrets about the purchase. I'd buy it again in a second.

I Prefer This Pad Over The Competition, BUT!

By:
September 25, 2009

This was my favorite pad until it sprung a leak on me. I had to get a replacement right away, and had to go with the Big Agnes pad because that is what the local outfitter had in stock. I have not had any trouble out of the BA pad, but wished I could have had the chance to give POE another shot. The reason I liked this pad so much is that it seems to be much warmer than the BA, and takes much less efort to inflate. I would recomend this pad over the BA, but keep in mind it may not hold up as well... maybe! I have a friend that got one on my recomendation, and their pad has held up just fine.

Review Update:

I decided to give the Thermo 6 another shot, and purchased one for me and my wife. It was 0 outside, 1-2 feet of snow, we used 0 degree bags, and closed cell foam pads under the Thermo 6. I have to say we both were toasty warm, and slept like babies. So far I haven't had the leaking valve issue that I did with my first Thermo 6 pad.

Great for side/belly sleeper

By:

Say goodbye to sore hips or ribs. Light and rolls up compact. I have used mine below freezing by itself. Alternatively, you can fold it to fit in your frameless ruck against your back. Pack the ruck and put a few puffs in the pad to give the pack some rigidity and comfort. Also, the bright orange can double as a signal panel - I love multitasking gear! The cautionary downside is that if it pops you're screwed in cold weather.

Awesome comfort for a pound. Packs down nice and small (water bottle). Your hips and ribs will thank you. Also makes a great kids air mat. If you travel UL with a frameless ruck you can put this in the pack deflated against your back with a few puffs in it. Load your gear and put in a few more puffs. Will add some rigidity to your pack.

All in all a great pad. Comfy to sleep on, either on your side or back or belly for that matter. I havent used it in colder weather so I cannot review its ability to insulate from the ground but it definitely pads well, packs down small, inflates easily and is definitely a great nights sleep for the price!

Good sleep!

By:

Finally I had a good night's sleep on a backpacking trip. This pad had the cushion I have been needing. It was the next best thing to my bed at home. And it was relatively quick and easy to blow up. I recommend it.

Great sleeping pad!

By:
May 13, 2008

I bought the three quarter sleeping pad and love it! I'm short and it extends just past my knees. It is so comfortable! It takes a few breaths to inflate it, but it's well worth the effort. My husband loved my pad so much we just bought him a full length one for a lot more money than I paid for mine (and it was still worth it).

Comfort at the coast

By:
May 15, 2008

I bought the Ether Thermo for a hike out along the Pacific Coast of Washington and found it very comfortable. Its size made it ideal for my internal frame pack - it meant I had more room for my sleeping bag and gear. It was easy to inflate and didn't leak. I slept like a baby. They also shipped it within a few days. Bravo. I shopped around a lot on the web and the camping gear stores and this one seemed to be the best value for its functionality. It also fit nicely inside my sleeping bag.

BEST YET

By:

I have slept on the ground many times and this was the most comfort I have ever had. It kept my hips and shoulders from being sore after a long nite in the tent. Great product. JK

Sleeping pad

By:
May 21, 2007

My husband & I both got Ether sleeping pads and just used them for the first time. We both loved them. I slept better than I ever have in a tent! I did wake up once with my legs off the pad but really wasn't hard to stay on. I'm a side sleeper & it was great. It does require a few breaths to blow up but we both blew them up to much & had to let air out. Very comfortable!

verdict is out...

By:

couple things I don't like - sleeping bag slips all over it if you move around in your sleep alot. It's pretty thick so you slip off it and you notice that you slipped off it. Kinda stinks if everything is not perfectly flat. I like to sleep directly on the pad with the bag unzipped as more of a blanket - the tube construction makes this uncomfortable. and lastly, my dog popped my freinds Ether Thermo pad in it's 2nd season, so I question the durability.

Compared to my 10 year old old 3/4 length thermorest guidelite, I like the guidelite better...it's arguably more durable, lighter, flatter surface, lower, and sorta selfinflating

No problem on durability, when it comes to happen stance issues like dog toe nails, get those babies under control. four years ago POE sleeping pads were ridden down a scree field under a Backpacker Magazine gear test. The POE Pads were the only pads to survive. POE makes products to last and will help fix them free of charge if you pop them. unlike some companies who charge you 10 to 15 bucks to fix a pad, POE does the hard work for free, then send it back on their dime. That is CS at its best. Fabrics have come a long way since 10 years ago, and things have gotten lighter and tougher. Nevertheless, if you are looking to go really light durability is always a compromise. The ETher PAds do not compromise on toughness, and I know POE stands behind their products. Built to last!
